Mise-En-Scene In Action Films
Setting/Location
 In the opening title sequence the location
can be outside or inside but it is normally
quite a bright setting.
 Usually, in the opening title sequence the
location connotes a positive mood but also a
sense of anticipation for the audience of
what is to come.
Colours
 Within action films the colours used are
normally colours such as: blue,green,
yellow, red etc. This usually reflects the
action on screen of happy characters.
 However, occasionally in the opening title
sequences dark colours are used to
represent to the audience that bad things
could be happening later on in the film.
Props
 In action films, the props all depend on
what the film is about such as in Toy Story
the film is all about toys therefore the main
props are toys.
 In addition to that the props also depend on
the location of the film such as in Gravity
the location is in space therefore the props
are things like a spaceship or a space helmet
etc.
Costume
 Costumes are used to represent a certain
characteristic of that actor/character.
 The colours of the costume are significant as
the darker the colours the more dangerous or
lower classed the character is.
 Also what they are wearing will connote their
gender, characteristics and class such a an
upper class woman might wear a smart dress to
look sophisticated.
Decor
 This is mainly used in internal sets whereby
the class and characteristics are represented
by the decoration of the house/building.
 For example, you would expect to see an
upper class family in a big house full of
pictures on the walls, wealthy wallpaper
and maybe a bit of gold on the light bulbs
on the ceiling.
