2. We Are What We Do
In this “we are what we do” society, loss of a job effects not
only employment, but, the entire person. In losing a job, a
little piece of SELF goes with it. It brings a loss of social
status and takes with it an element of self-esteem. This holds
true no matter what level or position we hold.

4. Who Am I?
• For a brief time, after losing a job, you can forget who you are.
• Separation from a job can lead to depression.
• Some people forget their strengths. Or, that they even have strengths!
• Often people forget that they have major accomplishments of which they
can – and should – be proud.

6. Keep It Positive!
When you feel positive, you feel uplifted and can present yourself in
a way that shows employers that you will be a GREAT addition to
their team.

7. A positive state of mind can be JUST as
important as a resume.
• A resume tells the world who you are - what you have done, what you can do
and what you would like to do.
• But, the resume cannot do all of the work. You have to be able to verbalize
that same information. Present yourself in a light that will make an employer
want you on their team.
• That is where the interview comes in. They have seen your resume. Now,
they want you to SHOW them why they should want you on their team.

8. Remind Yourself:
• You have LOTS of strengths. You’ve just forgotten!
• Think about the accomplishments you are proud of.
• Major projects you have been a part of and why your contribution was
important.
• Skills and abilities that previous superiors have appreciated.
• Strong points your past co-workers have appreciated.

9. Positive Self-talk
Don’t say:
• No one will want me. I’m not
worthy.
• I’m not smart enough.
• I’m just not good enough.
• I’m not worthy.
Say this:
• I am an asset to any organization!
• I am smart!
• I am capable!
• I AM VALUABLE!

10. Look Good, Feel Good!
• When we feel bad, we are tempted to not fix up. Don’t do that! When you
go out, fix yourself up. You will feel like you deserve to be there, whereever
you go.
• Eat right and drink water. Water flushes out all the bad stuff. You will look
and feel better.
• Take care of your skin. Water helps with that.
• Be aware of your state of mind. If you are feeling low, do something to
cheer yourself up. You will be more productive when your spirits are high.

11. GET OUT!
It is important to get out among people. Isolation becomes an issue
with unemployment.
When you are unemployed, social activity can become limited or,
sometimes eliminated.
There are lots of ways to get out without spending a lot of money.
