Patients are about to see a new doctor: artificial intelligence by EntefyEntefy
The health care industry has already seen advanced artificial intelligent systems make an impact in areas like medical diagnosis and patient care. But the long-term big-picture importance of AI in medicine may be something else entirely: a potential fix for the intractable problem of too few doctors and nurses worldwide. And as part of that, a solution to health care’s public enemy number one—paperwork.
Entefy curated a presentation based on our article about the impact of artificial intelligence in medical care. These slides provide a snapshot of how AI is at use in medical care today, the advances and limits of current AI systems, and AI’s potential in patient care. The presentation contains useful data and analysis for anyone interested in the intersection of AI and medical care.

This presentation was shown at the Artificial Intelligence in Health Care event in Toronto Nov 16 2017. The discussion was to introduce various applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the health care field.
Medical research is published with tremendous speed, making it nearly impossible for a doctor to keep up. Artificial Intelligence could be the answer. The growing amounts of available data enables the use of artificial intelligence in health care, as well as the increasingly sophisticated machine learning algorithms. Yet relatively little of these methods are used in health care.

How do we see the healthcare's digital future and its impact on our lives?Jane Vita
"Healthcare is undergoing major changes spurred on by, but not limited to, technology.
Digitalisation is changing the way we think about health, what taking care of it really entails, our personal role in healthcare systems and the way we interact with technology in the context of health.
In many ways, we are entering a post-institutional age of increased personal responsibility, which presents healthcare service providers and other players in the field with major opportunities and great risks. Technology has the potential to empower people and help them become more active in the management of their and their families’ health. This will change the relationship of the patient and the caregiver in profound ways." Mirkka Länsisalo

HIC2012 The Future of Healthcare: Innovation at the EdgeRajiv Mehta
This was an invited keynote delivered in Sydney, at Australia's annual health informatics conference HIC2012. I was asked to speak about the Quantified Self, and the self-tracking movement in general, and its potential impact on healthcare.
Nearly 40 years ago in Silicon Valley, a group of pioneers leveraged technological advances and new ways of thinking to make computing personal. Computing went from being dismissed as a tool of bureaucratic control to being embraced as a symbol of individual expression and liberation. The creativity of millions of individuals was unleashed. Their experimentation has changed the world, often exceeding the innovation from traditional institutions. Today another generation is leveraging technological advances and new ways of thinking to make healthcare personal. They are developing and using tools, technologies, ideas and communities to enable and empower individuals to understand and manage their own health. They are encouraging and supporting crowd-sourced scientific advancements. What are these people doing? What tools are they using? What have they learnt? And how is all this activity going to impact traditional healthcare institutions, the nature of care services, and the pace of health technology innovation?

CONCEPTUAL MODEL FOR ELECTRONIC CLINICAL RECORD INFORMATION SYSTEMijistjournal
This study is drawn from an ongoing, large-scale project of implementing Electronic Clinical Record (ECR). The overall aim in this study is to develop a deeper understanding of the socio-technical aspects of the complexities and challenges emerging from the implementation of the ECR, and in particular to study how to manage a gradual transition to digital record. We have proposed ECR conceptual model. The end result of our research was a collection of ideas / surveys, and field work that clinical institutions and medical informatics must consider to ensure that patients and clinics do not lose long-term access to ECR and technology continually progress. Results of our study identified the need for more research in this particular area as no definitive solution to long-term access to electronic clinical records was revealed. Additionally, the research findings highlighted the fact that a few medical institutions may actually be concerned about long-term access to electronic records.
