Introduction
• At the onset of the new millennium, 189 world
leaders from Member States of the United
Nations made a historic commitment during the
United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 when
they agreed to meet the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs) with the aim of bringing peace,
security and development to all people.
• The Millennium Declaration is a groundbreaking
international development agenda for the 21st
century.
