Milk And Food Coloring Lab Report
Did your experiment turn out the way you thought it would? If it did not explain why.
The experiment only turned out partially the way that I thought it would. The colors with the salt
spread just as much as the colors without the salt. It just slowed down. This happened because the
salt provided a barrier that the reaction of the soap had to break through to get to the milk and food
coloring.
What would you differently if you did this experiment again?
If I did this experiment again then I would make the measurements in the lab a whole lot more
precise. Then my conclusion would be able to be more precise because I have numbers to work
with.
What does this experiment have to do with chemistry anyway? Explain in a paragraph or two.

Crime Scenes: Agarose Gel Electrophoresis Essay
As seen on many crime shows and in real–life crime scenes, it is necessary to be able to identify
DNA. Most of the time, this is done using a technique known as gel electrophoresis. Gel
electrophoresis is a method used to separate the macromolecules that make up nucleic acids, such as
DNA and RNA, along with proteins. Gel electrophoresis is significant because it has given scientists
insight on what cells cause certain diseases and has led to advancements in DNA and fingerprint
identification. My experiment will use gel electrophoresis to compare the separation of food dye in
different agarose concentrations. The background for this experiment includes the following
subjects: inventors, real–world uses, necessary components, separation, ... Show more content on

This theory was formulated in 1970 and is one of the most recent on the topic of gel electrophoresis.
The National Academy of Science states, "The behavior of macromolecules in gel filtration and gel
electrophoresis may be predicted from Ogston's model for random mesh work of fibers. This model
has been generalized to apply to non–spherical molecules and to several gel types. The theory
defines conditions for optimal separation and optimal resolution in gel electrophoresis and gel
filtration" (Unified Theory for Gel Electrophoresis and Gel Filtration). There are a few components
that compose a gel electrophoresis chamber. First of all, there is a chamber used to contain the gel.
The gel used in my experiment will be made from agarose. In order to create an electric field, there
are positive and negative electrodes attached to a power source. My experiment will use alligator
clips as the electrodes and nine–volt batteries as the power source. A buffer solution, in this case a
1% solution of baking soda, submerges the gel to allow the ions to carry through and maintain the
stability of the Ph levels. A comb is used to generate wells inside of the gel to hold the samples. The
comb will be made of styrofoam (Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool For Identifying DNA).
Proteins, or nucleic acids, are isolated and separated within a gel. The gel is cast in a thin, welled
slab. In this particular experiment, the gel will be

Abstract
The experiment of determining the different food dyes present in the purple Gatorade and then
creating a solution with the correct color and concentration of the Gatorade chosen. Trials were done
with blue and red dyes to dilute the concentrations of the respective dyes in order to find the amount
of dyes needed in the resulting solution based on the absorbance and concentration. The absorbance
of the blue and red dyes were found to be 0.184 Au and 0.240 Au, respectively. The amount of blue

Essay about Hair Dying
Hair Dying
As people look around the different cities of our fair country, one might notice that many people
nowadays are coloring their hair to cover grey or just for the fun of it. One difference among the
younger generation and the older generation is the colors that are chosen for their hair. The younger
generation of this day and age seem to prefer wild colors such as Infra Red, Mystic Heather, Deadly
Nightshade, Tiger Lily, etc, as self–expression compared to the older generation choosing natural
shades to cover the signs of aging. This can be seen in the rising number of young people that are
seen around with these types of wild colors. Not all young people choose the wild colors over
natural shades because some choose the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The website states that these celebrities use the hair colors often. This site is evidence that the trend
of dying one's hair a wild shade exists in the United States. Other companies are also taking part in
the wild hair color business so as to keep up with the current competition. Companies such as
BWild, Hot Head, and even Jerome Russell are participating in the trend of wild hair color to
accommodate both the younger and the older population.
On the other hand, classic companies such as Clairol, Dark & Lovely and L'Oreal still offer the
majority of the natural hair colors that one can buy in a store such as Wal–Mart. These companies
can have a productive future as long as they are able to keep up with all other forms of competition.
As to my current knowledge, none of these companies offer outrageous colors such as Pillarbox
Red, or AfterMidnight. Sticking to the traditional colors is not a bad thing because there is still a
business in natural hair colors. People still like to color their hair so it looks like the color they used
to have or a lighter or darker shade of the color they presently have. The largest group to purchase
hair color products in the older generation is women. They might do this because they see grey
coming in or are trying a new look out.
CNN.com knew that hair coloring was a big trend as early as 1996. (Klensch, 1996). They predicted
that the trend would continue on into 1997 but it

How Do I Get My Hair Back to Its Natural Color? Essay
How do I get my hair back to its natural color
Hair dyes have some problems. Of course, it is very difficult to choose the right color. This is the
first question. But there is another problem: what to do when the color began to "walk"?
At least not constantly is all shades of red. And their attention fades women more often because they
are not very attractive colors in 6 weeks. Yet another color becomes problematic when the past

To speed up the "departure" of color, use soap, shampoo labeled "Clarifying" (klarifaing). When the
roots grow back, choose a color lighter than the color shampoo minimal root re (painted). Applying

Food Dyes : History And History Of Food Dyes
Food Dyes
In the late eighteenth century food manufacturers started to use synthetic dyes as a marketing
strategy to sell more food and earn more money. The reason that they make a large amount of
money selling their food is because the dye covers the natural color of the food. People don't find
the natural color of the product as appetizing as to when it contains the synthetic dye. They would
change the color of the product because that was the only factor that they could control other than
smell, texture, etc.
First we will start off with a brief history about food dyes. Before synthetic dyes Egyptians used
saffron, indigo and cochineal as their main source to color their food. These ingredients were
derived from plants and organic minerals and every ingredient was used to color something specific.
But after many years of using these natural ingredients the first synthetic dye was created. In an
article written by Ai Hisano he states, "In 1856, British chemish William Henry Perkin succeeded in
processing the first synthetic dye, mauve," (par.11). Mauve is a pale purple and it was named that
because it was named after the mallow flower. Color is a powerful communication tool used to
appeal to the eye of the customer. These colors attract the children in wanting their parents to buy
them the product and this increases the sales for that company. When buying food the customer
always looks at the appearance of the product and it is a fact that about 85% of the customers

Any grocery store you walk into you can see a wide variety of colors, but the sad fact is most of

The warnings against these preservatives continue. Grace Communications Foundation warns that
research from 2006 discovered that those who commonly eat animal products containing nitrites

Early Childhood Coloring Essay
Many parents are looking for ways to give their children the tools they will need for later in life. It is
important that parents work with their children early on to develop some much needed skills. It has
been proven that children are more likely to learn a new skill through play. Here are some important
activities for early childhood that your children are sure to find fun.
Coloring
Many people may not look at coloring as an important activity. However, encouraging a child to
color has many benefits. Coloring will help a young child develop their fine motor skills. Often
children are first exposed to how to grip a writing instrument when coloring. It is thought that
children that color often during their early childhood find it easier when learning how to write. As
young children become more accustom to coloring try using other tools such as an easel or tape the
paper to the wall. You can also introduce markers, colored pencils and chalk to give them a new
experience and broaden their coloring ability. A simple activity would be to trace your child's hand
and have them practice coloring within the lines.

Valued stylists adapt to new trends instead of resisting them. They are constantly educating

The media sources use a scare tactic way of presenting their information. They make the story very
compelling that these products absolutely do cause adverse effects. More studies most definitely
need to be done, which is what the authoritative sources stated. They found some links but their

Graph theory is becoming increasingly significant as it is applied to other areas of mathematics,
science and technology. It is being actively used in fields as varied as biochemistry (genomics),
electrical engineering (communication networks and coding theory), computer science (algorithms
and computation) and operations research
(scheduling). The powerful combinatorial methods found in graph theory have also been used to
prove fundamental results in other areas of pure mathematics. We discuss about computer network
security (worm propagation) using minimum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is known as the timetabling problem [4] and can be solved using the following strategy.
Construct a bipartite multigraphG with vertices x1, x2, ..., xm, y1, y2, ..., yn such that vertices xi
and yj are connected by pij edges. We presume that in any one period each professor can teach at
most one sub ject and that each subject can be taught by at most one professor. Consider, first, a
single period.
The timetable for this single period corresponds to a matching in the graph and, conversely, each
matching corresponds to a possible assignment of professors to subjects taught during this period.
Thus, the solution to the timetabling problem consists of partitioning the edges of G into the
minimum number of matchings. Equivalently, we must properly color the edges of G with the
minimum number of colors. We shall show yet another way of solving the problem using the vertex
coloring algorithm [7]. Recall that the line graph L(G) of G has as vertices the edges of G and two
vertices in L(G) are connected by an edge if and only if the corresponding edges in G have a vertex
in common. The line graph L(G) is a simple graph and a proper vertex coloring of L(G) yields a
proper edge coloring of G using the same number of colors. Thus, to solve the timetabling problem,
it suffices to find a minimum

The Rainbow of Risks
An innocent child is standing in a candy store and looking at all his favorite options from which to
choose. He slowly reaches for the bag of M&Ms, and he does not know what all the chemicals in
that bag will cause him. The M&Ms have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) causing
carcinogens in them called food dyes. These food additives help the food products stay vibrant and
eye catching but America's youth does not know what the consequences are when you eat these
products. Children think they are nice and colorful but they do not know what lies behind the
wonderful rainbow of colored M&Ms in that bag. That is why The United States needs to ban food
color additives to make our nation healthier. The main points on food dyes are the problems they
cause, the counter argument against them and the steps the country can take to solve these problems.
The first main point regarding food dyes are the problems they cause in the population. The main
three are Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6. "Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 account for 90% of all
dyes used in America (Carrera NP)." Dyes are complex organic chemicals that were originally
derived from coal tar but now are from petroleum. Think about it, children are eating substances that
have the same content as gasoline, oil, and kerosene. On top of that, additives like Blue 1, Blue 2,
Green 3, Red 40, Red 3, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 are known to contain carcinogens in them. The

The Cost Of Color As You Walk Down The Candy Isle
The Cost of Color As you walk down the candy isle, you see all these bright, brilliant colors from
chocolate bars to gob stoppers, Laffy Taffy, to suckers, multi–colored gum, jelly beans, and the list
could go on and on. Research suggests that it's our eyes that lead the way when it comes to our
senses and our tongues that merely follow, but if we only knew the dangers we were flirting with
every time we put a brightly colored piece of candy or food into our mouth it may be a different
story and we most certainly would think twice. All these bright, brilliant colors we eat contain more
than what meets the eye and what makes our mouths water. They contain chemicals that are linked

To solve these problems, there are numerous other countries that have decided to take action. Austria
and Norway have chose to ban artificial food colorings altogether. The British government urged the
food and restaurant industries to remove the six artificial food colors by December 31, 2009. (Four
of the six– Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 – can be used in food in the United States.) What
's more, the European Parliament passed a law requiring a warning notice (may have an adverse
effect on activity and attention in children) on foods that contain at least one of the six dyes" (Color
Us Worried, 2010). Also, big companies like Kraft, Coca–Cola, Mars, McDonalds, even branches of
Wal–Mart in other countries have already taken action. These companies have removed artificial
food colors from things like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (yellow 5), Fanta (Red #40 and Yellow36),
as well as McDonalds fruit and yogurt parfaits that contain Red#40 in their strawberries, because
they don't want to have to put a warning label on their products. Although these companies have left
them in products here in the United States because they aren't under the same strict guidelines. Big
companies such as Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Nestle have already chosen to be health conscious by

Coloring Of Coloring Books For Children
Through the activity of coloring books, children can enjoy themselves and have fun. But another
wonderful benefit of coloring for children, is the opportunity to improve focus and coordination.
Improving the ability to sit and focus can carry over into many other areas of a child 's life. One task
that can help improve focus for a child is coloring in an activity book. Another area that coloring can
improve upon is hand to eye coordination. Coloring can be a simple activity or more complex
activity depending on the images chosen to color. This can greatly assist in improving focus and
hand to eye coordination for a child. Improving these areas of development for a child through
coloring can greatly benefit other areas in a child 's life.
Improving Focus through Coloring
Many people struggle everyday with keeping focused on chosen tasks, adults and children alike. But
a relaxing and easy task that can help improve focus for children is coloring. Coloring also gives
children the opportunity to focus on an activity that requires planning and strategy. It can be a task
that can be fun and extremely rewarding at the same time. Coloring requires the mind to work on
one thing at a time, requiring the brain to focus. This attention to focusing on a given task can be
such an underlying reward for a child.
Coloring creates an Activity that is a Reward for Focusing on a Task
Through focusing on a task and completing that given task, children can feel a sense of

and nutrition in food. One of the activities was to differentiate between fresh ramen noodles and
instant noodles by scrutinizing the ingredients and nutritional labels as well as by taste testing. Upon
inspection, there were several recurring ingredients such as the coloring agent tartrazine. Later that
day, a bolt of curiosity surged through me, and an Internet search on tartrazine forever changed the
way I looked at food.
What I found shocked me. Articles full of evidence indicated the harmful effects of the coloring
agent, ranging from allergic reactions to hyperactivity in children. As a result, I was compelled to

Essay about What to Do About Gray Hair
The first gray hair: what to do?
Gray hair – known sign of aging. However, the first gray hairs may appear quite early, even before
the onset of wrinkles. Bad mood, uncertainty, apathy – all this may be accompanied by the first gray

The problem is that the natural way to increase the amount of melanin impossible. Therefore, getting

every time when washing your hair you "paint" their gray hairs. The method is not stable, but its
advantage is that it is absolutely not spoil your hair and scalp.
4. Semipermanent hair coloring
This option staining that is not washed off when washing your hair, but is gentler compared with a
permanent. Semi permanent gives healthy hair color and shine, but it lasts a maximum of 12
applications of shampoo.
Such a paint can be purchased for home use or painted Semi–permanent in the cabin. You may have
doubts – whether to use Impermanent, because if wash my hair every other day, the paint will not
last a month on hair. Whether it is beneficial when you consider that the cost Semi–permanent
nearly the same as those resistant paint? The advantage is. You will be much easier to come back to
the color, there is no problem contrasting regrown hair roots and unkempt appearance. So – consider
the option of semi–permanent staining.
5. Resistant dye
This method utilizes the strong concentration of hydrogen peroxide to obtain a permanent result. It
is clear that it is more dangerous for the condition of the hair way, although staining will last longer
(more than 24 applications of shampoo).

Art Therapy For Adult Coloring Books
Samantha VanGeest Prof. Dickerson WRT 150 – 11 15 October 2016 Art Therapy in Adult Coloring
Books Art therapy can be defined as a form of psychiatric rehabilitation which comprises of the
inspiration of free expressiveness through coloring, sketching, and molding. Additionally, it gets
used as a curative action or as an assistance to an individual's analysis in regards to specific
conditions. Coloring books were previously thought to be reserved for children and adults who

helpful. Most of the arts done under the therapy have found their way into the market, and
additionally, the help they offer the adults who get involved. Being able to distract yourself from
your daily problems, negative thoughts, and that fact that anyone can do it, are all reasons that this
type of daily therapy should be used more often by adults and therapists treating adults. Using adult
coloring books for therapeutic benefits from physical problems like cancer and high blood pressure
has been proven to be good. According to Schwebel, adults using coloring books as art therapy is

Unit 2 Making Food Dye Lab

Abstract
In this paper, an artificial food dye will be made to mimic the color of Full Throttle. To determine
what food dye are needed, Full Throttle will be put through a spectrometer to determine what
wavelengths are absorbed. Specific wavelengths absorbed will correspond to specific colors
absorbed. It was determined that yellow 5 and yellow 6 will be used to make our artificial food dye
to mimic Full Throttle. Using Beer's Law, it was determined that a concentration of 0.0000236
moles of Yellow 5 and a concentration of 0.0001494 moles of yellow 6. Using our line of best fit
from the absorption graphs, it was determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When making the absorption graphs for the yellow 5 and yellow 6, the lines of best fit were giving
numbers that were extremely small. After help from the TA, it was found that our concentrations
used where twice as small of a concentration compared to what was actually used for Full Throttle.
To correct this the molarity's were multiplied by ½. For example when finding the x value in our
equation y=2.044x+0.2067 the answer is x = 7.28–5 moles. To correct this, that number is multiplied
by 0.5 to get the correct value of 3.64*10^–5. This new number is what was used in the equation
c1v1=c2v2. After the solution was made to mimic Full Throttle it was discovered that the beverage
only had one food dye. The experiment was intended to have a beverage with two food dyes present.
To make up for this, orange PowerAde was used and the experiment was repeated for orange
PowerAde. The solution was made for the orange PowerAde and its absorption graph was compared
to that of the diluted orange PowerAde solution. Comparing the two graphs, have the same peaks
although these peaks are at different absorption levels. Since the two graphs have the same peaks it
is safe to assume that the same food dyes are present in both solutions. It is important to note that
there are two peaks in each graph despite only seeing one peak. This is because both peaks are
located so close to each other that they merge as one overall peak. When comparing the two

Hair Coloring
Hair coloring
Definition of hair coloring: Hair coloring is the practice of changing the color of hair. The main
reason for this practice are cosmetic, e.g. to cover gray hair, to change to a color regarded as more
fashionable or desirable, and to restore the original hair color after it has been discolored by
hairdressing processes or sun bleaching. Hair dying, which is an ancient art, involves treatment of
the hair with various chemical compounds. Today, hair coloring is immensely popular, with over 75

Because there is essentially no lifting (i.e., removal) of natural hair color, the final color is less
uniform/homogeneous than a permanent and therefore more natural looking; they are gentler on hair
and therefore safer, especially for damaged hair; and they wash out over time (typically 20 to 28
shampoos), so root regrowth is less noticeable and if a change of color is desired, it is easier to
achieve. Demi–permanent hair colors are, in essence, permanent color and the darker shades in
particular may persist longer than indicated on the packet Temporary hair color: Temporary hair
color is available in various forms including rinses, shampoos, gels, sprays, and foams. Temporary
hair color is typically brighter and more vibrant than semi–permanent and permanent hair color. It is
most often used to color hair for special occasions such as costume parties and Halloween. The
pigment molecules in temporary hair color are large and cannot penetrate the cuticle layer. The color
particles remain adsorbed (closely adherent) to the hair shaft and are easily removed with a single
shampooing. Temporary hair color can persist on hair that is excessively dry or damaged in a way
that allows for migration of the pigment to the interior of the hair shaft Alternative hair colorants: A
minority of hair coloring products are designed to create hair colors not typically found in nature.

Health Risks Associated With The Additives
You Are What You Eat Do you read the labels on the products you buy? Do you know what is put in
the food you consume? There are many health risks associated with the additives in products. Most
Americans are unaware of the risks that are linked with the additives in commonly purchased
products. My daughter was one year old when I realized she was allergic to artificial coloring. One
morning we woke up and I made us a toasty bagel. I topped the warm crunchy bagel with light pink,
strawberry, cream cheese. We enjoyed our bagel as we watched Sunday morning cartoons. Suddenly
I noticed her face was as red as a cherry. In a panic I took her to the bathroom to check for other
symptoms. She was red from head to toe with red raised bumps all over. I immediately called the
doctor, who advised me to take her to the emergency room. After the doctor examined her she told
us it was a food allergy. I realized she broke out after eating food that contained artificial coloring.
Once I started to look at labels, to avoid buying harmful products, I realized almost everything
contained added coloring. Many manufactures over use artificial coloring in the United States,
which can lead to serious health problems. Americans need to become aware of what is added to our
food, and ban artificial coloring. How can we find a solution to a problem, if most of us are UN
aware that a problem exists? First, we must find out what is in artificial colors. Artificial color, food

had to overcome as a family. As a result, my mom went back into college to study for a Registered
Nurse. I didn't spend as much time with my mom as one child wishes they could, but I knew she
was working lots of hours and going to class just to be able to give us the life she thought we
deserved. The same applies for my dad, I knew he would come home from work in pain, exhausted,
but he was doing it all for his kids. As I was growing up and noticing these things about them, I
began to admire them and loved how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

admire that aspect of her and realize that I don't need to depend on anyone to be successful. Lastly,

Hair Dyeing
Throughout history, women would follow the local trend set by the beauties of their time such as

braids during the time of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra to colorful updos today. Almost all of us
have a desire to change our hair color. Women like to dye their hair to change their physical
appearance or they just like follow the trend. Some of us use hair dye or hair bleach without
realizing how damaging it is to our hair. Hair Coloring is when you change the color of your natural
hair. Before the 1900's, people would use natural dyes and herbs to color their hair. The Egyptians
were the first to color their hair using henna to hide their gray ... Show more content on

Dying your hair is a great form of self expression. Whether you go blonde, brunette, or dye your hair
a crazy color like blue or pink, its your decision. Another good reason to dye your hair is to hide
those gray hairs. Many adults dye their hair to appear younger. The negative side effects of dying
your hair is that your hair gets dry and brittle because of the chemicals.Since the chemicals are
going into your scalp, it becomes irritated and starts to tingle. If you over apply hair bleach, this can
lead to major damage causing the hair to break anyway on the shaft resulting to hair loss. Many of
us prefer to dye our hair at home. At home colors are cheaper and their prices vary from $8 to $20.
These products have a higher volume of peroxide so that it can lighten darker hair. This can be
dangerous for your hair because it will affect future coloring and you will have to treat the hair
growing differently that the colored hair. It is a bit safer to get your hair professionally done at a
salon. You may pay a little over $100 but the dye will be less harsh. By law they are required to
perform a patch test using the right amount of peroxide for your

Milk And Food Coloring Lab Report

  • 1. Milk And Food Coloring Lab Report Did your experiment turn out the way you thought it would? If it did not explain why. The experiment only turned out partially the way that I thought it would. The colors with the salt spread just as much as the colors without the salt. It just slowed down. This happened because the salt provided a barrier that the reaction of the soap had to break through to get to the milk and food coloring. What would you differently if you did this experiment again? If I did this experiment again then I would make the measurements in the lab a whole lot more precise. Then my conclusion would be able to be more precise because I have numbers to work with. What does this experiment have to do with chemistry anyway? Explain in a paragraph or two. This experiment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the time, this is done using a technique known as gel electrophoresis. Gel electrophoresis is a method used to separate the macromolecules that make up nucleic acids, such as DNA and RNA, along with proteins. Gel electrophoresis is significant because it has given scientists insight on what cells cause certain diseases and has led to advancements in DNA and fingerprint identification. This theory was formulated in 1970 and is one of the most recent on the topic of gel electrophoresis. The National Academy of Science states, "The behavior of macromolecules in gel filtration and gel electrophoresis may be predicted from Ogston's model for random mesh work of fibers. This model has been generalized to apply to non–spherical molecules and to several gel types. The theory defines conditions for optimal separation and optimal resolution in gel electrophoresis and gel filtration" (Unified Theory for Gel Electrophoresis and Gel Filtration). There are a few components that compose a gel electrophoresis chamber. First of all, there is a chamber used to contain the gel. The gel used in my experiment will be made from agarose. In order to create an electric field, there are positive and negative electrodes attached to a power source. My experiment will use alligator clips as the electrodes and nine–volt batteries as the power source. A buffer solution, in this case a 1% solution of baking soda, submerges the gel to allow the ions to carry through and maintain the stability of the Ph levels. A comb is used to generate wells inside of the gel to hold the samples. The comb will be made of styrofoam (Forensic Science: Building Your Own Tool For Identifying DNA). Proteins, or nucleic acids, are isolated and separated within a gel. The gel is cast in a thin, welled slab. In this particular experiment, the gel will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Hair Dying Hair Dying As people look around the different cities of our fair country, one might notice that many people nowadays are coloring their hair to cover grey or just for the fun of it. One difference among the younger generation and the older generation is the colors that are chosen for their hair. The younger generation of this day and age seem to prefer wild colors such as Infra Red, Mystic Heather, Deadly Nightshade, Tiger Lily, etc, as self–expression compared to the older generation choosing natural shades to cover the signs of aging. Other companies are also taking part in the wild hair color business so as to keep up with the current competition. Companies such as BWild, Hot Head, and even Jerome Russell are participating in the trend of wild hair color to accommodate both the younger and the older population. On the other hand, classic companies such as Clairol, Dark & Lovely and L'Oreal still offer the majority of the natural hair colors that one can buy in a store such as Wal–Mart. These companies can have a productive future as long as they are able to keep up with all other forms of competition. As to my current knowledge, none of these companies offer outrageous colors such as Pillarbox Red, or AfterMidnight. Sticking to the traditional colors is not a bad thing because there is still a business in natural hair colors. People still like to color their hair so it looks like the color they used to have or a lighter or darker shade of the color they presently have. The largest group to purchase hair color products in the older generation is women. They might do this because they see grey coming in or are trying a new look out. • 25. Food Dyes : History And History Of Food Dyes Food Dyes In the late eighteenth century food manufacturers started to use synthetic dyes as a marketing strategy to sell more food and earn more money. The reason that they make a large amount of money selling their food is because the dye covers the natural color of the food. People don't find the natural color of the product as appetizing as to when it contains the synthetic dye. They would change the color of the product because that was the only factor that they could control other than smell, texture, etc. First we will start off with a brief history about food dyes. Before synthetic dyes Egyptians used saffron, indigo and cochineal as their main source to color their food. These ingredients were derived from plants and organic minerals and every ingredient was used to color something specific. But after many years of using these natural ingredients the first synthetic dye was created. In an article written by Ai Hisano he states, "In 1856, British chemish William Henry Perkin succeeded in processing the first synthetic dye, mauve," (par.11). Mauve is a pale purple and it was named that because it was named after the mallow flower. Color is a powerful communication tool used to appeal to the eye of the customer. These colors attract the children in wanting their parents to buy them the product and this increases the sales for that company. This is known as the timetabling problem [4] and can be solved using the following strategy. Construct a bipartite multigraphG with vertices x1, x2, ..., xm, y1, y2, ..., yn such that vertices xi and yj are connected by pij edges. We presume that in any one period each professor can teach at most one sub ject and that each subject can be taught by at most one professor. Consider, first, a single period. The timetable for this single period corresponds to a matching in the graph and, conversely, each matching corresponds to a possible assignment of professors to subjects taught during this period. Thus, the solution to the timetabling problem consists of partitioning the edges of G into the minimum number of matchings. Equivalently, we must properly color the edges of G with the minimum number of colors. We shall show yet another way of solving the problem using the vertex coloring algorithm [7]. Recall that the line graph L(G) of G has as vertices the edges of G and two vertices in L(G) are connected by an edge if and only if the corresponding edges in G have a vertex in common. The line graph L(G) is a simple graph and a proper vertex coloring of L(G) yields a proper edge coloring of G using the same number of colors. Unit 2 Making Food Dye Lab Lab II: Making Food Dye By: Alexander Medina Lab Partners: Maxwell Yurs, Eugene Floersch, Masih Harri Abstract In this paper, an artificial food dye will be made to mimic the color of Full Throttle. To determine what food dye are needed, Full Throttle will be put through a spectrometer to determine what wavelengths are absorbed. Specific wavelengths absorbed will correspond to specific colors absorbed. It was determined that yellow 5 and yellow 6 will be used to make our artificial food dye to mimic Full Throttle. Using Beer's Law, it was determined that a concentration of 0.0000236 moles of Yellow 5 and a concentration of 0.0001494 moles of yellow 6. Using our line of best fit from the absorption graphs, it was determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When making the absorption graphs for the yellow 5 and yellow 6, the lines of best fit were giving numbers that were extremely small. After help from the TA, it was found that our concentrations used where twice as small of a concentration compared to what was actually used for Full Throttle. To correct this the molarity's were multiplied by ½. For example when finding the x value in our equation y=2.044x+0.2067 the answer is x = 7.28–5 moles. To correct this, that number is multiplied by 0.5 to get the correct value of 3.64*10^–5. This new number is what was used in the equation c1v1=c2v2. After the solution was made to mimic Full Throttle it was discovered that the beverage only had one food dye. The experiment was intended to have a beverage with two food dyes present. To make up for this, orange PowerAde was used and the experiment was repeated for orange PowerAde. The solution was made for the orange PowerAde and its absorption graph was compared to that of the diluted orange PowerAde solution. Comparing the two graphs, have the same peaks although these peaks are at different absorption levels. Since the two graphs have the same peaks it is safe to assume that the same food dyes are present in both solutions. It is important to note that there are two peaks in each graph despite only seeing one peak. This is because both peaks are located so close to each other that they merge as one overall peak. My eight year old little sister, Lusclarita, Lus for short, and I were coloring. We sat outside of my family's house on our porch, in East Los Angeles, California, It was a warm autumn night, but already dark outside. We lived in a white one story house with blue trim, and a porch connected the house to the lawn by some stairs, along with some more stairs that led to the street. A stone fence lined the front lawn, which was covered in grass and had a blue pathway. My mom chastised us, moving around the kitchen preparing our plates with her famous spaghetti. "Yeah, sit down before the food gets cold," my dad said, as he finished washing dishes. My brother was just sat there, already done eating and playing on his Gameboy again. My dad watched television from the kitchen table, and my mom served us our food and sat down, all looking like nothing even happened. • 79. Health Risks Associated With The Additives You Are What You Eat Do you read the labels on the products you buy? Do you know what is put in the food you consume? There are many health risks associated with the additives in products. Most Americans are unaware of the risks that are linked with the additives in commonly purchased products. My daughter was one year old when I realized she was allergic to artificial coloring. One morning we woke up and I made us a toasty bagel. I topped the warm crunchy bagel with light pink, strawberry, cream cheese. We enjoyed our bagel as we watched Sunday morning cartoons. Suddenly I noticed her face was as red as a cherry. In a panic I took her to the bathroom to check for other symptoms. She was red from head to toe with red raised bumps all over. I immediately called the doctor, who advised me to take her to the emergency room. After the doctor examined her she told us it was a food allergy. I realized she broke out after eating food that contained artificial coloring. Once I started to look at labels, to avoid buying harmful products, I realized almost everything contained added coloring. Many manufactures over use artificial coloring in the United States, which can lead to serious health problems. Americans need to become aware of what is added to our food, and ban artificial coloring. How can we find a solution to a problem, if most of us are UN aware that a problem exists? First, we must find out what is in artificial colors. Artificial color, food color, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
