Newspaper Presentation Mike Slater
Chosen Brief I have decided to produce: A Newspaper front and inner page A print advert for the newspaper  And also a radio advert for the newspaper
Local Newspaper Conventions I will be creating a local style newspaper of which the conventions are: It must have an eye catching headline, and contain the name of your local area Use of local news and projects rather than national or global news stories A wide range of images focusing of stories within the local region Include print adverts for businesses within the local area
Advert Conventions The Radio Advert  Should be a suitable length, about 30 seconds long Should use either an energetic or soothing tone  Should contain a catchy slogan The Print Advert Should create the initial impact by using things like bright colours The advert needs to be clear about what it is actually advertising
Using the Newspaper comparison to help create my Newspaper Both newspaper’s have used the colour red in the primary optical area effectively, so I have decided to use this when I create my newspaper. I also liked the Metro’s use of a buzz word to catch the readers eye I am going to mix the two magazine’s mastheads to create my own, by using  the boldness of the Metro’s and the formal style of the Salford Advertiser’s. I am also going to use images to accompany my main article Use red in the primary optical area Bold yet formal masthead Buzz Words Use of images Bold headlines
Target Audience The target audience for my product will be: People aged 16 +, but it may appeal more to the 17 – 30 age bracket Both male and female, but it may appeal more to men It also appeals to people who are interested in music and local projects
Audience Research The questionnaire audience’s expectations of a good newspaper: Interested in articles about Sport, Political & Local Projects Interested in a free gift They like to read the newspaper in the mornings and at weekends Like to read the newspaper at home Would prefer to skim read articles rather than read the whole of them Prefer the Manchester Evening News’s Masthead over the Metro’s  and the Salford Advertiser’s

Editor's Notes

  1. I am going to create a newspaper front page and inner page, and both a print advert and radio advert for that newspaper.
  2. The conventions of a local style newspaper are, that it must have an eye catching headline, that contain the name of your local area so in my case Salford or Manchester.It should include local news and projects such as stories about the local council, charity events, local sports teams and education; rather than national or global news stories. And it should include images to show whereabouts these projects are taking place.And they usually include print adverts for businesses within the local area, because the local newspaper is the most important place that these companies advertise themselves and their products.
  3. The radio advert should be a suitable length, about 30 seconds long. It should use either an energetic or soothing tone, depending on what the product is and should also contain a catchy slogan; so that people remember the advert. And the print advert should create an initial impact by using things like bright colours and bold text. It also needs to be clear about what it is actually advertising and this should have a slogan as well so people will remember it.
  4. Both newspapers took advantage of using the colour red in the primary optical area, to grab the readers attention. So I’ve decided I’m going to use this technique to get the same effect.I like how the Metro used the buzz word “free”, to catch the reader’s eye and to persuade them to read it because it doesn’t cost them anything. I am going to mix together the boldness of the Metro’s masthead and the formal style of the Salford Advertiser’s, to create the masthead I am going to use for my newspaper. I am also going to use images to accompany my main article to show what it is the article is about.
  5. The target audience for my newspaper is going to be people aged 16 years and older because my questionnaire results told me that people younger than 16 find newspaper’s boring. But the content of my newspaper will appeal more to people aged 17 to 30, because the majority of people I asked were in that age bracket. My newspaper will appeal to both men and women but I think the content will appeal slightly more towards men because most of the people I asked to fill out a questionnaire were male. It also appeals to people who are interested in music and local projects because that is what my article is going to be about.
  6. From the people who answered the questionnaire, the most common answers were:That most people were interested in articles about Sport, Political and Local projects so I am going to include these topics when I make mine.The people who didn’t read newspapers said they would if they received a free gift, so I am going to advertise a free gift on my newspaper. They like to read the newspaper in the mornings and on the weekends, so I will advertise mine to be delivered on Saturday morning. They also prefer to skim read articles rather than read the whole of them, so I will include a brief summary of what the article is about. And most people preferred the Manchester Evening News’s Masthead over the other two, so I will try and combine the elements of colour, boldness, formal style from all 3 when I create mine.
