There are two types of midwives - independent midwives who visit women at home outside of the national health service, and hospital midwives who work within the national health service and require women to go to the hospital to give birth. Midwives help women during labor and childbirth by assisting with the delivery of the baby through the birth canal, and provide advice and support to mothers both before, during, and after birth.
