 The ethical dilemma is that I was hired to
sell rooms at Quality Inn and sometimes
guests don’t want to pay that much.

3. Step 2: Get the facts
 The facts are that I personally know of
other hotels that are cheaper than
Quality Inn.
 I was hired to sell rooms at Quality Inn.
 There are ways to get people to stay
without sending them to another hotel
sometimes.

4. Step 3: Identify your options
 One option would be saying “sorry I cant
got any lower” and send them on their
way.
 Second option would be telling them
where a cheaper room rate would be
 Third option would be even though they
don’t have AAA or AARP giving them the
discount anyways to get them to stay,
which is another dilemma in itself.

5. Step 4: Test each option: Is it
legal? Is it right? Is it
beneficial?
 Is it legal? Yes it is legal just frowned upon
 Is it right? Yes and No. Yes because its
important to show good character. No,
because its not helping the business that hired
you.
 Is it beneficial? Again Yes and No. Yes,
because in a way your showing the guest that
you’re a helpful person so they will remember
that for their next visit. No, because the hotel
isn't making money by sending them
somewhere else.

I decided on all three options depending
on the guest.

7. Step 6: Double check with the spotlight
questions: How will you feel if your family
found out, got reported to the
newspaper, or posted on the internet
Iwouldn’t think my family would care if anything
they would think I was being nice. However I’m not
sure how I would feel about my boss finding out.
They would not appreciate that very much.

8. Step 7: Take action
 I personally play it by ear depending on the
guest. If I really don’t think that I can help
them and they don’t ask about somewhere
else I let them leave without a word. However
if they are really nice and ask if I know of
anywhere else I’ll tell them. Every once in
awhile if its really late when they get there ill
try and give them a discount even if they
don’t have one just so they don’t have get
back in their car to find something else.
