TECHNICAL BRIEF Protecting & Migrating Legacy Windows OSesSymantec
End of Support is Not the End of Business
Businesses need to be prepared for the end of support of operating systems (OSes), especially if the OS is used enterprise-wide or runs business critical applications, such as Microsoft® Windows XP® and Windows Server® 2003.
As you know, Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on 8 April 2014, and will similarly pull the plugon Windows Server 2003 on 14 July 2015. Without any security patches, Microsoft has cautioned that “PCs running Windows XP after April 8, 2014 should not be considered to be protected”.
However, many organisations stick with their legacy Windows systems, even after support ends. Changing an OS across the entire organisation opens up the risk of downtime for mission critical applications. Migrating to a new OS is also manpower-intensive, and could easily lead to time and cost overruns.
Not surprisingly, companies see very little incentive to replace an unsupported but still functional OS—until there is an overwhelmingly urgent need to do so. In addition, their business may be dependent on old, proprietary applications that cannot run on newer platforms. Yet, it’s crucial for organisations to understand the risks of running an out-of-support OS against the costs and effort of migrating to a new one.

Modern Data Management and Protection Challenges
Customers of all types and sizes are seeking new and innovative ways to overcome challenges associated with data growth and storage management. While these challenges are not necessarily new, they continue to become more complex and more difficult to overcome due to the following:
Pace of data growth has accelerated
Location of data has become more disperse
Linkages between data sets have become more complex
Data and storage management challenges are compounded by the need for companies to protect critical data assets against disaster through backup and recovery solutions. In order to maintain backups of critical data assets, additional secondary storage resources are required. This additional layer of backup storage must be implemented wherever backups occur, including central data centers and remote offices.

You need to analyze the features of three videoconferencing systems walthamcoretta
You need to analyze the features of three videoconferencing systems and provide an overview of each system. After you complete the overview of the systems, you'll recommend a system which best meets the business functionality and security requirements. You will also prepare a set of high level executive briefing slides to give the CEO and CIO an overview of your study. Your study and recommendation will be critical to the company's success.
Cybersecurity professionals are frequently required to assess the security, risk applications, and systems for business communications before they can be added to an organization's network. CISOs need to assess risks posed to the organization and develop new security measures or adjust current measures to address these risks appropriately. These evaluations involve comparing competing applications or systems against the organization's baseline to determine the best balance between business needs and the security and risk appetite of the organization.
Videoconferencing and collaboration systems vary in cost, configuration, functionality, use, and collaboration capability. These systems are trusted to facilitate sensitive and proprietary discussions through their use of encrypted communication channels. Yet these systems have vulnerabilities and are prone to threats and attacks ranging from phishing, credential compromise, and even malware insertion. Therefore, analysis of possible threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities inherent in these systems is critical in developing defense and protection strategies for voice and video data at all endpoints and during transit.
In this project, you will create a proposal for a secure videoconferencing system, which will include an executive summary, briefing/slide presentation, and lab report. The details can be found in the final step of the project.
There are six steps to the project, and the project as a whole should take about two weeks to complete. Begin with the workplace scenario and then continue to Step 1.
Deliverables
Proposal for Secure Videoconferencing, Slides to Support Executive Briefing, Lab Report
Step 1: Develop Functional Requirements for Videoconferencing
The first step in your proposal for a secure videoconferencing system is to develop a set of functional requirements for videoconferencing that you believe the media company will need based on its geographic dispersion and business needs.
In developing those requirements, research three videoconferencing solutions such as Skype, GotoMeeting, Polycom, and Cisco Webex and explain their capabilities, advantages, and disadvantages. Identify costs as well as implementation and support requirements.
The functional requirements and the three possible solutions will be a section of your Proposal for Secure Videoconferencing. In the next step, you will review the challenges of implementing those solutions.
Step 2: Discuss Implementation Challenges
In the previous step, you outlined the requirements ...

Securing your Windows Network with the Microsoft Security BaselinesFrank Lesniak
IT professionals everywhere strive to secure their network, but it can be a daunting task. Luckily, Microsoft provides some boilerplate templates to get you started.
In this session, Frank begins by providing an overview of the Microsoft Security Baselines, explaining what they are and how they relate to the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks, why Security Baselines are important (especially in PCI- or HIPAA-regulated environments), what to expect to change when implementing a baseline, when it is appropriate to implement a Microsoft Security Baseline, and provide you with project success criteria.
Then it's time for the details: Frank explains how to inventory your systems, how to download the Microsoft Security Baselines, how to apply your first Baseline to Active Directory, and how to manage the implementation---including recommendations on how to make changes (or "overrides") to the Security Baselines both from a process standpoint and a technical standpoint (using Group Policy Management).

Security is one of the most important considerations for SMBs. In fact, 77% of SMBs in a recent survey consider security a top feature when purchasing new PCs.1
Last year alone, 67% of SMBs experienced a security breach that cost, on average, 3.3% of their revenue.1 That’s a big risk to both profitability and reputation, and it shows how critical strong security protections are for businesses.
The good news is that 69% of SMBs in a recent survey agreed that new Windows 10 Pro devices offered better security and data protection than older devices.1
Research shows that modern devices help business owners by preventing identity attacks, minimizing phishing, and reducing the risk of malware attacks. These are all common ways that bad actors steal business data, steal personal information, or hold our devices hostage in exchange for huge amounts of ransom money.
And with modern PCs, most security functions can happen in the cloud, without interrupting worker productivity.

The Java ecosystem is very broad, with different technologies including Java SE, Java EE/Jakarta EE, Spring, numerous application servers, and other frameworks. Wherever you are in Java, Azure supports your workload and process with an abundance of choice – from IaaS to fully managed services. You can run any application architecture, from monoliths, to containerized monoliths, all the way to completely microservices based apps.
We see three broad patterns for running Java applications in the cloud, depending on how much control or productivity you need.
The first is lift and shift with Virtual Machines:
Virtual machines provide the most flexibility, control and visibility while moving to the cloud, especially for initial lift and shift of Java workloads. Azure provides a variety of Java focused VM images and solutions templates in the Azure Marketplace to get you up and running quickly.
The second is modernization using containers:
Containers provide portability, flexibility, scalability, manageability, repeatability, and predictability.
Azure provides best of breed support for Docker and Kubernetes, especially through the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Red Hat OpenShift.
Finally, Azure has the most managed hosting options for Java applications of any major cloud platform with fully managed PaaS for Spring, Tomcat, and JBoss EAP:
Managed services offer ease-of-use, ease-of-management, productivity, and lower total cost of ownership.
You can focus on building your applications, not managing infrastructure.
All of this is supported by managed databases and DevOps tooling:
Use fully managed SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cosmos DB, and SQL.
Keep using the tools you love, with plugins for IntelliJ and Eclipse, integrations with a variety of DevOps tools like Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, and GitHub.
Get comprehensive protection across all your platforms and clouds
Protect your organization from threats across devices, identities, apps, data and clouds. Get unmatched visibility into your multiplatform environment that unifies Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR). Simplify your security stack with Azure Sentinel and Microsoft Defender.
Protect your business with a universal identity platform
The Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) enterprise identity service provides single sign-on and multi-factor authentication to help protect your users from 99.9 percent of cybersecurity attacks.
Gartner named Microsoft a leader in Magic Quadrant 2020 for Access Management
Single sign-on simplifies access to your apps from anywhere
Conditional Access and multi-factor authentication help protect and govern access
A single identity platform lets you engage with internal and external users more securely
Developer tools make it easy to integrate identity into your apps and services
Connect your workforce
Whether people are on-site or remote, give them seamless access to all their apps so they can stay productive from anywhere. Automate workflows for user lifecycle and provisioning. Save time and resources with self-service management.
Choose from thousands of SaaS apps
Simplify single sign-on. Azure AD supports thousands of pre-integrated software as a service (SaaS) applications.
Protect and govern access
Safeguard user credentials by enforcing strong authentication and conditional access policies. Efficiently manage your identities by ensuring that the right people have the right access to the right resources.
Engage with your customers and partners
Secure and manage customers and partners beyond your organizational boundaries, with one identity solution. Customize user journeys and simplify authentication with social identity and more.
Integrate identity into your apps
Accelerate adoption of your application in the enterprise by supporting single sign-on and user provisioning. Reduce sign-in friction and automate the creation, removal, and maintenance of user accounts.

3. Software Assurance Quick Start Guide
Software Assurance | Quick Start Guide 1
Step 1: Get to Know Your Benefits
Familiarize yourself with Software Assurance
Software Assurance offers customers 24×7 support, deployment planning services, training, and the latest software releases and unique
technologies—all through one program. You can improve end user productivity with online training and home use licenses to help
enhance skills and accelerate familiarity with Microsoft software. To help your IT staff efficiently implement and manage their Microsoft
products, Software Assurance provides technical training and access to new software releases when they become available and to
unique technologies, including the Windows Enterprise Edition operating system and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP).
In addition, Software Assurance offers extended use rights to deploy certain products to accommodate a greater variety of cloud and
hybrid deployment options, devices and worker preferences. While this guide supplies some fundamental information, the place to
learn more about each benefit is at the Software Assurance website (www.microsoft.com/softwareassurance).
Check your benefits through the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC)
Your Software Assurance benefits are determined by your volume license agreement (such as an Enterprise Agreement or Open Value
agreement), and the number of qualifying licenses you have with Software Assurance. To determine your Software Assurance benefits,
use the Volume Licensing Service Center (www.microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter) to see the most accurate statement of your
current benefits. You must be registered to use this tool (see Step 3: Claim your benefits through VLSC for more details).
Step 2: Establish Software Assurance Managers
Before you can use your Software Assurance benefits, your organization needs to identify and establish one or more individuals as
Software Assurance Managers using the Volume License Service Center (VLSC). If you already have Manager Permissions, skip ahead to
Step 3: Claim your Benefits through VLSC.
If you do not already have Manager Permissions, you may request these by first registering to use VLSC, then using VLSC to request
Software Assurance Manager Permissions. VLSC routes such requests to your organization’s VLSC Administrator. Please review the
following training videos for complete instructions at http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/manage-my-
agreements.aspx.
Tips for choosing Software Assurance Managers
A consideration when choosing whether to have one or more individuals manage your organization’s Software Assurance Benefits is the
size of your organization and scope of benefits available to you. A large enterprise that will access multiple benefits across multiple
organizations may find decentralized benefits management most effective. A mid-sized organization may find it more efficient to
centralize benefits management with one individual or department. Here are some typical manager recommendations for Software
Assurance:
IT Manager
New products and deployment tools (New Product Versions, Windows Enterprise, MDOP)
Deployment resources (Planning Services, TechNet subscriptions, License Mobility)
Technical Training for IT staff (Training Vouchers)
24x7 Problem Resolution Support
System Center Advisor

Steps to register Software Assurance Managers
To manage Software Assurance, individuals must first register and sign into VLSC. Once registered and signed into VLSC, they will need
appropriate permissions that are granted by your organization’s VLSC Administrator. The VLSC Administrator may grant permission in
one of two ways:
1 Use the VLSC Administration tools to approve permission requests that individuals submit through VLSC, or
2 Proactively assign permissions to select individuals using the VLSC Administration tools.
Please review the “Requesting and Approving User Permission” demo or download the VLSC User Guide for complete instructions at
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/manage-my-agreements.aspx.
How to register
Customers must sign into VLSC with a Windows Live ID and associate a Windows Live ID with a valid business e-mail address.
1 If you don’t have a Windows Live ID, please sign up for one at https://login.live.com/.
2 Sign into the Volume Licensing Service Center at http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter.
3 Because your Windows Live ID must be associated with a valid business e-mail address, click Sign up now to begin.
4 Enter your Windows Live ID e-mail address and password, then click Sign In.
5 VLSC will validate if you are a registered user.
6 If you are not a registered user, you will be invited to register using a valid business e-mail address.
a. You will receive an e-mail that will ask you to validate your information.
b. Your valid business e-mail address may be different from your Windows Live ID and must match the e-mail address
provided on your Volume Licensing agreement or Open License order.
c. Please check your SPAM filters to ensure you receive this e-mail.
d. Confirm your e-mail address, create a password and password reset option, and type the characters from the picture
into the field to validate your information.
Step 3: Claim Your Benefits Through VLSC
Follow these steps for specific benefits
Whether you want to download the latest Windows 8 Enterprise software, get 24x7 Problem Resolution Support, or give employees
access to Office training, you will need to claim your benefits through the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).
Once you are signed into VLSC, you will follow different steps depending on the specific benefit you want to use. The rest of this guide
provides detailed instructions for claiming and using each benefit organized by type: New products, deployment, support, training, and
specialized benefits.

Extended Hotfix support
A hotfix is an update to your software that typically addresses bugs or other problems you may be having. The Extended Hotfix support
benefit provides specific product fixes on a per customer incident basis, beyond the standard product support terms and releases.
After it is determined, typically by a Support Engineer, that the resolution to a customer-reported issue will likely require a hotfix for a
product in the Extended phase of the support life cycle, contact your Technical Account Manager (TAM). The TAM will work with the
appropriate problem resolution team to initiate the process of creating the hotfix. After it is confirmed that a hotfix can be created and
provided to you, the TAM will work with you to sign you up for an Extended Hotfix Support Account (EHSA) or add coverage to your
existing EHSA for the affected product.
