Microsoft Word is a word processing program developed by Microsoft. It was first released in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Word. It grew out of an earlier word processing program called Bravo that was developed at Xerox PARC. Word has different versions for Windows, Mac, and DOS operating systems. Common file extensions for Word documents are .doc and .docx. Word allows importing images and has features for spelling and grammar checking, find and replace, inserting watermarks, and creating documents for business, education, resumes, and publishing books or newsletters.
