WHAT IS
MICRODERMABRASION?
 M – Micro , D- Derma, A- Abrasion (exfoliation).
 It is a Mechanical Peel.
 Also called skin resurfacing.
 It is a “skin rejuvenating” mechanical exfoliation
technique.
 It helps to improve texture and apperance of the
skin.
 It is non-invasive (no break in the skin) treatment
that removes the dead and damaged surface
layer of skin cells by using crystals of aluminum
oxide.
MICRODERMABRASION
 Not gentle as compared to chemical peel.
 Boosts the collagen.
 Faster and deeper penetration.
 Can treat PIH, Hyper pigmentation, Freckles,
Aging fine lines.
 Vaccum Pressure- Negative Pressure

type of sandpaper to smooth scars.
 In 1900’s – GERMANY, KROMAYER – used
rotating wheels and rasps to remove the upper
layers of the skin.
 In 1950’s – Motorized wire brushes were used for
dermabrasion but many drawbacks were present
like Pain, Long Downtime, Scarring, Wound care,
Infection.
 In 1985- The first microdermabrason invented in
Italy by DR. MATTIOLI and BRUTTO.
TYPES TO USE MACHINE
 Crystal Free- Micro particle
 Crystal Based- Particular.
 Diamond is mineral (1st hardest mineral) also
called crystal free.
 Crystal based is crystal flow (Aluminum Oxide 2nd
hardest mineral).
WORKING OF MACHINE
 Negative Pressure-Pulling the Skin.
 Movement of HAND PIECE.
 HAND PIECE – 90 degree
 No pressure because machine has its own
Negative Pressure
 Face strokes –
 Streching is very important.
ADVANTAGES/EFFECTS
 It is painless.
 Working on epidermis, but also improve dermal.
 Toxins release fast, because of vaccum suction in
machine.
 As the dead cells (stratum corneum) are
removed, a glow in the complexion is evident.
