This document reviews the paradigm shift from using single microbial strains to microbiome-based approaches for sustainable agriculture. It discusses how industrialized agriculture has relied heavily on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which damage natural resources like soil. Maintaining healthy soil microbiomes offers benefits like nutrient cycling and plant protection. Recent studies using sequencing and culturing methods have revealed diverse microbial communities in soil and plant rhizospheres. Effective microbiomes are complex interactions beyond specific microbe-plant pairs. The review discusses using microbiome approaches to enhance crop productivity while restoring soil health.
