Methodological Premises of Social Forecasting in the Context of Business organizations- Presentation at Second National Conference on Management Science and Practice
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras - March 9-11, 2007
The best data we have on the
upper tail of the income distribution come from Piketty and Saez’s (2003, with
updates) tabulations of individual tax returns. (Even these numbers, though, are
subject to some controversy: the tax code changes over time, altering the incentives
to receive and report compensation in alternative forms.) According to their
numbers, the share of income, excluding capital gains, earned by the top 1 percent
rose from 7.7 percent in 1973 to 17.4 percent in 2010. Even more striking is the
share earned by the top 0.01 percent—an elite group that, in 2010, had a membership
requirement of annual income exceeding $5.9 million. This group’s share of
total income rose from 0.5 percent in 1973 to 3.3 percent in 2010. These numbers
are not easily ignored. Indeed, they in no small part motivated the Occupy movement,
and they have led to calls from policymakers on the left to make the tax code
more progressive.

Four Day Workweek Policy For Improving Employment and Environmental Condition...Sociotechnical Roundtable
Can working less lead to a healthier economy and better environmental conditions? Which factors should be taken into consideration when forming an answer to this question? In this article Nicholas Ashford and Giorgos Kallis discuss how affluent economies often have shorter work-weeks and why, under the right conditions, more free time can decrease unemployment and help develop a greener, more sustainable Europe.
Innovation by putting purpose into practiceThei Geurts
Policies expressed in legislation are the basis upon which public services are built. Therefore one would expect that legislation and innovative use of legislation is a key element in eGovernment initiatives. However, it almost seems that policies and their expressions in legislation live in a parallel universe of the eGovernment universe. eGovernment initiatives usually don’t make a direct connection between purpose (intended effect) and practice (operations and outcome). This affects the overall ability of governments to execute policies and the sustainability of eGovernment initiatives. We conclude that innovation by putting purpose into practice is a game changing Megatrend, a trend that has already started, as research and case studies proof. The ‘alternative’ for not engaging in this trend is unacceptable long cycle times, eroded agility, affected governance and compliance, high costs which are multiplied by doing the same in multiple places, evitable administrative burdens and red tape, decreased productivity gains of rare resources, and various forms of sub-optimization.
Putting purpose into practice by synthesizing policy making and policy execution yields considerable economic and social benefits, as initiatives in The Netherlands proof.

TVA p3 00 True Value Accounting for better Triple Bottom Line managementPeter Burgess
The Triple Bottom Line ... PEOPLE, PLANET and PROFIT ... is being talked about more and more, but the system of metrics used in to manage corporate performance remains based on conventional money profit double entry accountancy. This works very well for corporate profit performance and the money dimension of the socio-enviro-economic system, but totally ignores the important everything to do with the prosperity of people, the health of the society and the sustainability of the natural systems. True Value Accounting is designed to be as rigorous about impact on people / society and impact on environment / nature / planet as conventional accounting is rigorous about money transactions and profit.

TVA p3 The GLOBAL SOCIO ENVIRO ECONOMIC SystemPeter Burgess
The Global SOCIO-ENVIRO-ECONOMIC System is a very complex system and a significant challenge to manage in an effective way. While there has been progress in improving quality of life for many people using the metrics of money, the system leaves many behind. Worse, a system that only has focus on money economics means that progress is achieved at the expense of some segments of society and at a huge cost to the environment , neither of which are part of the dominant money metrics framework. True Value Accounting brings people (society) and planet (environment) into the accounting and accountability in a way that is as rigorous for these elements as it is for money.
Contemporary Mainstream Economics suffers from both internal inconsistency on behavior and lack of external
outlook despite an overwhelming success in the real world! New pluralist behavioral economics (PBE), based
on the Big Five Taxonomy, focuses on group processes rather than individuals where the most Open-minded of
the Big Five is the key person in the formation of group standards. PBE identifies the democratic culture as the
weakest link in the chain of interactions towards sustainable development due to the complexity of the issue.
This requires a systematic information of the public on Economics to improve the quality of democratic
decision-making on economic- political issues. The overall selection criteria of elements of economics for such
a public information program is Human Capital value which has guided the structure of this new textbook.

Twitter Based Sentimental Analysis of Impact of COVID-19 on Economy using Naï...CSCJournals
COVID-19 outbreak brought unprecedented changes to people’s lives and made significant impact on the US and world economy. It wrought havoc on livelihood, businesses and ultimately the economy. Understanding how the sentiment on economy is changing and main factors that drives the change will help the public to make sense of the impact and generating relief measures. In this paper we present a novel Naïve Bayes model using a word-based training approach to perform the analysis and determine the sentiment of Twitter posts. The novelty of this methodology is that we use labelled set of words to classify the tweets to perform sentimental analysis as opposed to the more expensive methods of manually classifying the tweets. We then perform analysis on the resulting labelled tweets to observe the trend of economy from February 2020 to July 2020 and determine how COVID-19 impacted the economy based on what people posted on Twitter. We found our data was largely inclined towards negative sentiment indicating that the economy had been largely negatively impacted as a result of COVID-19. Further, we correlate the sentiment with the stock market index aka Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) because stock market movement closely mirrors the economic sentiment and is shown as one of the main factors influencing people's attitude change from our sentimental analysis. We found strong correlation between the two, indicating stock market change is one of the driving factors behind people's opinion change about economy during pandemic. This work proposed and tested a generic lower-cost text-based model to analysis generic public’s opinion about an event which can be adopted to analyze other topics.

Four futures for health and social care integration - a response from VeredusMarghaid Howie
What will you be doing in ten years’ time? If you’re working in adult social care and associated health professions, the future may seem quite uncertain. It may be a full time job, or interim or a little light
advisory in retirement, but the main uncertainty about your work will be the landscape. What will health and social care look like in 2025? How integrated will it be? Will it be locally or centrally driven? Will we ever break down the professional cultures within and between our organisations?
Using Behavioral Economics to Unlock Workforce Engagement James Sillery
In an interview, an executive said the following, "Today, the greatest challenge that a company can face is a lack of engagement… and not to be aware of the situation". But on average, the majority of employees in any given company are, to some degree, disengaged. This presentation, given at the TCHRA Spring Conference, looks at the underlying causes and presents practical solutions.

"Antenna for Social Innovation: The Quest for Precision"Ginés Haro Pastor
The concept of social innovation is a victim of its own success. It is increasingly being used, appropriated, and diffused by a wide range of public and private organisations keen to highlight the social and innovative component of what they do or what they wish to do. Can we blame them? Certainly not, but we must acknowledge
that the recent proliferation of initiatives and organisations with the label social innovation has generated some confusion that we, from academia, should try to address and, hopefully, help to clarify.

The factors that influence the way we work are diverse: they include technology, politics, society the environment and more besides. Any serious attempt to predict the future of work must therefore draw on many disciplines and incorporate many points of view.
That is the guiding principle behind this research project, conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and sponsored by Ricoh Europe. The project began with a series of interviews with experts in fields ranging from economics to ergnomics, to identify the key trends in the next 10 to 15 years.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
