6. WAVE MOTION
 Wave motion is the propagation of disturbance from
the point of a medium to other parts of it .

7. TRANSVERSE WAVE
Transverse wave is a wave in which the
particles of the medium vibrate perpendicular
to the direction of propagation of wave

8. EXPERIMENT SHOWING TRANSVERSE WAVE USING A
skipping rope
Tie one end of a rope to a
fixed point . Hold the rope straight and
move it up and down .
 we can see waves produced in the rope
when we move hands up and down.
The particles in the rope vibrate up and
down at right angles to the direction of
wave.

9. Each wave transmits energy fromone
point of mediumto other parts
without the actual translatory motion
of particles . They undergo only
vibrations . The transmission of
energy in this manner is a wave
motion.


10. FEATURES OF A TRANSVERSE WAVE
 AMPLITUDE – The maximum displacement of a particle
from the mean position.
 CRUST - The elevated portion of a wave .
 TROUGH - Depressed portion of a wave .
 CYCLE - When a particle come back to its original
state after completing one vibration.
 FREQUENCY – The number of cycles per second.
 WAVELENGTH – Distance between any two consecutive
points of same state of vibration.
