 What is a meteorite and meteoriod?
 Are there different types of meteorites? If there
    are what are they?
 Where can you find them?
Before space
rocks enter the
earth’s
atmosphere the
space rock is
called a
meteoriod.
Once it does enter our
atmosphere it’s called a
meteor and will look like
a burning ball – we often
call these shooting stars.

Once it hits earth’s ground
that same stone that used
to be a meteor becomes a
meteorite!!!!
A meteorite is a meteor that lives through it’s
passage through earth’s atmosphere.

There are three different main groups for
meteorites because of their particular kinds of
minerals and rocks.
 There are three different types of meteorites
     Iron
     Stone
     Stony-iron
 Yes! In fact there are two-hundred-and-ninety-
    four found in Texas!
 There were only six found in Oregon and six
    found in Washington
 None have been found in Rhode Island!
 The largest meteorite in America is the
    Willamette stone, found in Oregon.
SAM’S VALLEY (1894) WILLAMETTE STONE (1902)
KLAMATH FALLS (1952) SALEM (1982)
MORROW COUNTY (1999) FITZWATER PASS (1974)
 Rice Museum in Hillsboro
 Field trip on February 10th
 They have a display of stone and iron
    meteorites
Thank you for listening
to my power point on
meteorites and
meteoriods!!!

Have a great day!!!!!
