Morality in The Hunt for Red October Essay
Morality in The Hunt for Red October
While hundreds, even thousands of excellent movies have been made over the years since motion
pictures were invented, there are some movies that stand out among the best. There are various
reasons for these standouts, sometimes incredible acting, sometimes impeccable story lines, but in
many cases, it is the issues addressed by the movie. Most of the greatest movies contain
commentaries or analyses of certain issues, be they moral, social, or otherwise. John McTiernan
directed one of these films, The Hunt for Red October, based on the similarly titled best selling
novel by Tom Clancy. The Hunt for Red October, a product of the anti communist attitudes of the
1980 s, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The officers of Ramius crew have also had to make their own moral decisions as they assist Ramius
defection. They, too, have had to follow the beliefs of right and wrong instead of the morality that
has been given to them by their naval superiors.
There is also a moral decision to be made by the KGB agent loyal to the Soviet Union on Ramius
submarine, the cook s assistant Loginov. When he discovers that Ramius is intending to defect,
he makes the decision to attempt to stop Ramius, even at cost of his own life. The fact that he is
against the hero of the movie, Ramius, does not mean that he is evil, although he is seen as such
for purposes of the movie. His decision comes from his belief that what Ramius is doing is
morally wrong. He believes that defection is treason, and is unacceptable under any
circumstances, and he believes that it is his job to prevent this treason. His decision comes from
his own moral beliefs, and therefore cannot be labeled as wrong. His beliefs are simply different
from Ramius .
The Russians are not the only characters that must make moral decisions. The other main
character of the movie, Jack Ryan, must face his own moral decisions. To begin, he must decide
whether to follow the advice of the military council, or to follow his belief that Ramius is trying to
defect. His decision will impact Ramius decision, since if no one believes

Organizational Change In Eastman Kodak
1.Introduction Organizational change is the movement of an organization away from its current
state and toward some desired future state to increase its effectiveness (Lunenburg, 2010). Changes
in the environment often require changes within the organization driving within that environment.
Change fatigue is one of the challenges organization face.
Change may occur in order to remain competitive in response to new competition. Change fatigue
is rampant, and its aggravated by a natural tendency to distrust change that is imposed from above
(Morgan, 2001). This report will discuss about Eastman Kodak Company as the organization that
failed because it did not go through some organizational change or resistance to change.

Organizational Culture Organizational Culture is a pattern of shared basic assumptions that was
learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaption and internal integration, that has
worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore, to be taught to new members as the
correct way to recognize, think, and feel in relation to those problems (Schein, 2004). Historically,
Kodak was a business built on a culture of innovation and change, which made them very
successful, but as achievement grew so did their complacency.
The deep rooted source of Kodak s problem was a culture of self satisfaction . Kodak was
critically destroyed by its culture, although it was the quick progress of digital photo technology
that is commonly blamed for Kodak s demise (Riley, 2015). On the other hand, Kodak s new
leadership has not clearly addressed what are Kodak s essential features and neglected the need to
transform the Kodak s culture destinies, which may be any possibility of Kodak future succeed.
Therefore, the culture of Kodak was unable to operationalize and launch the ideas that would
eventually force their demise (Simonelli,

Sibling Relationships In John Hinton s The Rich Brother
From the time a child is born to the age of maturity, they are molded into what society has
interpreted as normal. These fragile adolescent years are crucial to the development of the child s
behavior, which bares the question of how important a sibling s role plays in this development.
Humans learn their behaviors and morals through the interaction with one another, feeding off of
each other s experiences. This dependency on others is shown through siblingrelationships, even
more so in the story of The Rich Brother . In The Rich Brother , we are introduced to two
brothers very different from each other. Pete is a very successful real estate agent, living a
normal middle class life with his wife and kids. His brother Donald, rather, lives with a religious
group in a commune. Although they had both been raised similarly, they had grown up very
differently, shaping their behaviors and personalities today. Donald was a more reserved person
than Pete, but also was very naГЇve and optimistic. This leads Pete and Donald into some
disagreements throughout their trip back to Pete s house. Through these arguments, Pete and
Donald s true colors start to show, vastly comparing the differences in lives between those who

Whether Donald needs to borrow money or a place to stay, Pete is always there to clean up his
mess. Donald doesn t enjoy asking his brother for these favors, but it shows that through thick and
thin, a brother is a brother. Though Donald is a bit more optimistic than his older brother, he finds
himself in sticky situations quite more often. Whether he s giving money away to strangers based
on stories and tales, or accidentally starting a fire at his commune, Donald cannot seem to get
things right. This is where he turns to his brother Pete for support. However prosperous Pete is,

Self Esteem And Eating Disorders
Throughout history, women have transformed their appearances to match the current beauty
ideal. Today, the idea of being a size zero has transformed itself from a trend into being an
obsession. The fascination to be thin and perfect has invaded the minds of women and girls all
over the world, it feels as if the pressure to have the perfect body everywhere. The ideals of beauty
have been constantly focussed on women s bodies. It s gone from the boyish figure during the
roaring twenties to an hourglass figure that swept the 1930s and 1950s. Every year beauty standards
change and continue to impact women s lives.
Many sources talked about self esteem and eating disorders relating to the pressure for the perfect
body throughout young girls and women. Other sources focused on the misleading influence of
media on women and girls. In one article, Body Image Dissatisfaction: Gender Differences in
Eating Attitudes, Self Esteem, and Reasons for Exercise (Furnham, Badmin, Sneade), it talked
about women and how they are more likely to judge themselves about their weight or size than
men would. It also talked about the different struggles that men and women go through with their
bodies. The article, Perfect Body Image , talked about what people are seeing in the news as being
perfect. It also brings up the dangers of people thinking and being pressured into these standards.
Dangers such as Anorexia, Bulimia, and other eating disorders, are becoming more and more

Rabbit Proof Fence Film Analysis
Rabbit Proof Fence, originally written by Doris Pilkington Garimara in 1996, is a true story,
which was adapted into a movie in 2002 by Phillip Noyce. The film captures the adventures of
three Aboriginal girls (Molly, 14, Daisy, 8, and Gracie, 10), who escape from an English
settlement school after being forcibly taken from their home in Jigalong. The director positions
viewers to feel negatively toward the issue of cultural destructiveness through the application of
three main conventions. These conventions include characterization, camera angles, and setting.
Characterisation is a key convention in the development of the way in which the character will
be observed by the audience, as well as camera angles and setting. A.O. Neville, Chief Protector
of Aborigines, is a strong example in this point as his character was built up to be powerful. For
instance, when A.O. Neville was seated at his desk, in his office, the camera was angled to look up
at him. The setting of his costly office in addition to the low camera angle positions spectators to
see him as a dominant person. Through the use of characterisation, Noyce has positioned the
audience to respond empathetically towards the three girls during the time of their confinement.
The film s antagonist, A.O. Neville is characterized to represent a central theme in the issue of
cultural destructiveness. This can be proven in a variety of segments within the movie; for instance,
A.O. Neville can be seen to have good intentions

How Did The Democritus Make The Atomic Theory
460 BC: Democritus Philosopher
Democritus made the atomic theory widely known, which stated that the universe is composed of
two elements: the atoms and the void in which these atoms exist and move. (More, 1646)
Democritus came up with the theories:
All materials were made up of many invisible particles called ATOMS.
Atoms are not able to be destroyed.
Atoms are solid but invisible to the human eye
Atoms are homogenous.
Atoms differ in size, shape and mass (zandrice, 2010)
1.Solids are made of small, pointy atoms.
2.Liquids are made of large, round atoms.
3.Oils are made of very fine, small atoms that can easily slip past each other

Rutherford s understanding of the atom was that the protons were clustered together in the nucleus.
The nucleus is then surrounded by empty space occupied by electrons. (Lucas Wright, 2001)
1897: James Johnson Thomson
Thomson discovered the electron. He used a cathode ray tube (an electron gun) with a magnet and
discovered that the green beam it emitted was made up of negatively charged particles. Thomson
then determined that these negatively charged electrons needed something positive to balance them
out. (Born, 2014)
From his experiments Thomson established that all electrons are identical and that elements aren t
different because of their electrons but because of how many electrons are present and their
formation. (Lucas Wright, 2001)
Thomson did many experiments and found that the mass of one of these electrons was nearly 2000
times lighter than the element Hydrogen. Thomson then disproved Dalton in stating that atoms
cannot be divided into smaller pieces. (Born,

Human Social Perception in Empirical Literature
Human social perception is area of study within social psychology that involves the complex
cognitive system that is personal to each individual. Since each person has a unique cognitive
system, interpretation of social situations is unique to each individual. The differences in cognition
and perception between different people allows for varied interpretations, accurate perceptions,
and misperceptions. Social perception is an interesting topic that has been largely researched by a
multitude of social psychologists. The goal of this paper is to provide a brief description of social
psychology, a summary of social perception, some of its forms and uses, misperception, and
accuracy in perception.

Social psychology is the scientific field that focuses on the individual within society. Due to this
individualistic focus, people are often studied experimentally within or in relation to social
environments. Social psychology studies the effects of social processes and cognitive processes on
the way individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others, in a systematic way, using scientific
methods (Smith Mackie, 2007). Due to the complexity of the human body and mind, social
psychology is a vast field that has been explored by many experts. As social creatures, people

Veterinary technicians first started out just being people being taken out of the street and trained to
help vets do anything they needed help with. But in 1908 The Canine Nurses Institute in England
made an organized effort to train veterinary assistants. it took the next 53 years for any university or
college to set up a program just for animal technician. The first animal technician education program
was established at the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical school in Delhi. The
man that set up the program was Ralston Purina, he developed the very first animal technician
training correspondence course for training laboratory animal technicians in the U.S. In 1965 the

Christopher Scott Kyle was raised in Texas and was a United States NavySEAL from 1999 to

Abstract
Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of
men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the
father s role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house
hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an
important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the
present is experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their
careers.

What involves staying at Home?
The decision for one to become a stay at home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye.
A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power
as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other
working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands
(McKay 4). Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by
choice or by force, the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a
sense of commitment to the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is
that as they go about their duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on
the role of fathers who are responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families
home running smoothly. This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are
ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their
families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance.
According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what
mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house work. The only difference is that in
the present day,

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Literary Analysis
When viewed holistically, one finds it evident that different paradigms are accepted throughout
different cultures and set the foundation for how life should be conducted. Heroes in literature play
an extensive role in the representation of such values. When delving into the monomyth,
constructed by Joseph Campbell, one may witness the perspective and moral code of the hero, and
marvel at the means by which they overcome tribulation. Yet, ultimately, the ideals of the era are
fortified through example. The literary works of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
convey both cultural and paradigm shifts in, one dimensional views of humans to a more complex
understanding, from the days when the Anglo Saxons ruled England to the Late Middle... Show

King Arthur and his knights cannot understand the magnitude of Gawain s individual change
because they did not accompany him on his journey. His company almost receives the news as a
sort of jest as they laughed loudly at the tale and insisted that that each knight should wear bound
about him a baldric of bright green. (Weston) Although is unintentional, his comrades are mocking
his failure, and are unable to relate to the hero. Ultimately, the medieval society, remains in a state
of ignorance because of what they value. The concepts of love, chivalry, and prestige obscure their

Why I Am A Scientist
Live the life you ve imagined , wrote on cover page of my notebook gave by my mentor Dr. Xu.
When I was six, I witnessed my aunt suffering from serious rheumatoid arthritis and nobody even

brutal diseases and fight against them. This compass navigates my career path and leads me to
where I am right now, a biology student in University of Kansas. My professional journey
started at 2007, my freshman year in Wuhan University, a top ranked biology program in China.
I and my teammates were catching turbellarian all over the campus trying to find out the secrets
of tissue regeneration. After that, I initiated a project to isolate bacteria strains from soil to
reduce phosphorus in water and prohibit blue algae caused by pesticide in river and lake, which
got me funded by WU undergraduate research fund in 2008. These small adventures helped me
to explore my capabilities and build confidence about doing research. However I also realized
that to make a difference in human health, passion is one hand, knowledge is the other. To better
prepare myself for a future in biology scientific research, I joined Dr. Guo s lab in WU which
focused on human skeletal development in 2009 and quickly found the question that I care about

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk s Inaugural Speech
Every choice, every action and every decision we make has a consequence. A couple weeks ago, I
read two speeches by the 16th president, who served two terms, and an American politician, who is
the brother of John F. Kennedy. The first speech I read was delivered on April 4th in 1968 by
Robert F. Kennedy. He spoke about the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. that occured in
Memphis, Tennessee that same night. The second one was Abraham Lincolns Sencond Inaugural
Address. Kennedy s speech occured after Martin Luther King s Assassination and Lincoln s
happened after he was elected president for a second term. In Robert F. Kennedy s speech, he
mentions race, hatred and the lack of compassion we have for one another. Although, in Abraham
Lincoln s speech, he mentions the tragedy of the American Civil War, the distribution of slaves, and
God. Robert F. Kennedy s speech was intended to bring the nation together as a whole instead of
being sepearated by race. Also, Kennedy used this speech to mention that one of his family
members were killed by a white man, in order to empathize with everyone who was affected by the
news of Dr. King s assassination. His speech included:
those of you who are black [...] filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act,
against all white people [...] feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. (Kennedy, 1968)
Robert F. Kennedy tried his hardest to unite people with this speech about the Assassination of
Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted every American, whether they are black, white, hispanic or
middle eastern, to acknowledge the lack of compassion, love and unity in our nation. Robert F.
Kennedy started his speech by informing everyone that Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in
Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. He continued talking about how Martin Luther King
dedicated his life to love and justice between fellow human beings . Kennedy then asked everyone
in the crowd what kind of nation they were and what direction they want to move in. In Robert F.
Kennedy s speech he said:
black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward another. [...] with
an effort to understand, compassion, and love. (Kennedy, 1968) Robert F.

Analysis Of The Point Of View Of A Woman
When choosing to lead readers through a novel in the point of view of a woman that is described
as so impetuous, yet self contained! Incapable of insincerity, devoid of affection and courageously
naturally beautiful. . . . So unlike most women, (Stoddard) Stoddard knows exactly what she is
doing. The Morgesons resists the conventionally domestic, passive 19th century feminine ideal and
Stoddard purposefully chooses to ignore the previously set paths for a female writer. Instead she
chooses to present readers with a narrative that is rich with emotional intensity, physicality, and
sexuality. She does this, in order to present us with a character that is on a journey of sexual

Also most well respected physicians of the time were in agreement that true women felt little or

sexual appetite and is directly in conflict with the notion that a woman only wanted sex in order
to procreate and become a mother (Source #1). Being aware of these 19th century conventions,
Stoddard would have had a hard time when writing, had she come out and explicitly stated that
Cassandra is hungry for acceptance of her sexuality. Thus, it would then have been the question
of how could a female writer of that time period cloak the meaning of her writing in a manner
that would be accepted while still fighting conventional standards. The obvious choice that is
made, is to use hunger as a metaphor for Cassandra s sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This
may seem like an odd pairing, however, regardless of if Stoddard is aware of it, hunger and sex

The Gospel Of Matthew s Gospel
The Gospel of Matthew historically was thought to be the first Gospel written, followed by the
Gospel of St. Mark. Early church historians believed that Matthew was one of the twelve Apostles.
Gospel of Matthew according to biblical historians came from the Gospel of Mark. Gospels of
Matthew written before the destruction of Temple in Jerusalem in seventy AD.
Matthew was a tax collector and as a tax collector considered a sinner by members of the Jewish
community. Sinners, because they were unclean, were to be avoided. Being a tax collector
Matthew would have known Greek and Hebrew to be able commutate with Roman and Jewish
people. To understand the Gospel of Matthew you need to know he is a Jew and because Matthew
use of Old Testament Scripture.
In fact, one of the primary purpose of this Gospel may have been attempt to link the story of Jesus
with the history of Israel. Any reader of Matthew who wants to go deeply into this Gospel must be
alert to its Jewish background.
Understanding that Matthew makes the point, the Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promise in the
Old Testament. Matthew use Old Testament scriptures to point to Christ as the promised Messiah
to the Jewish people. Matthew uses the Old Testament Scriptures of Isaiah to point to Jesus Christ
as the fulfillment of the covenant with God.

Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction Essay
The Literary Genre of Science Fiction
In Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Suvin argues that science fiction should be
considered its own literary genre. The reason he believes science fiction is distinct from other
literary genres is because of its transforming aspects. Suvin describes science fiction as the literature
of cognitive estrangement, which includes a novum . It is his belief that both cognition and
estrangement must be both present and interactive in science fiction. Although it can be argued that
science fiction is not its own literary genre because of its similarities to myth, fantasy, and folktale,
it is significantly different from these genres because of its ability to cause the reader to think in ...

This causes his/her view of reality to be transformed.
In Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Darko Suvin defends his cited definition of Science
Fiction as its own literary genre, by providing examples and pointing out the similarities and
differences arising from the comparison of science fiction to myth, folktale, and fantasy. Suvin
says that myths are similar to science fiction in the aspect that they both incorporate the usage of
estrangement. However, he points out that there are also many differences between them as
well. Science fiction sees the norms of reality as transformable and changeable, whereas myths
are the complete opposites. They conceive human relations as fixed and supernaturally
determined (8). This mean that the lives of characters are already made for them and that they
do not have the ability to change what will happen to them. Folktale is also similar to science
fiction where it defies the rules and laws of the empirical environment. However, folktales go
above and beyond transforming the empirical environment, it creates a closed collateral world
indifferent to cognitive possibilities (8). This means that in the world created in a folktale,
anything is possible. He uses the example of a flying carpet, stating, The flying carpet evades the
empirical law of physical gravity (8). This quote shows the difference between folktale and science
fiction because a folktale creates something that is

because before when the city was mostly white, the percentage of income for those who make

dearly for the things, which they did not even do in the past and secondly they have always been
there in their own subtle little way but never as a force to reckon with. Any guesses as to why do
that happen? The nation has been growing and building as the earlier parts of the essay suggest.
It had a lot of interaction and the growth brought in a lot of people from outside and the races
mixed and there were hybrids. So it is not and it never was one nation. There were a lot of nations
within that single nation and that is what made it all the more complex. There was no single
driving force and there was nothing to unite the. No religion commonality, no language as being the
same, even the origins was different. It was bound to happen that the nation would have a split
personality and it did have that. There was a lot of dichotomy in the statements made and there
was a huge consensus as to how to eliminate the differences but this was something that just was
not possibly biologically speaking. Be it music or be it the style of governance or even the type of
architecture in the country. They all

Technological Progression
As the world enters a new era of technological progression and evolution, the popularity and use of
technology for entertainment and more practical uses has skyrocketed. I have been alive long
enough to observe some of the changes taking place. Some of these changes include including
nearly everyone in high school texting on smartphone, so many people are choosing to talk over the

those before us, where people keep their calendars on their phones and do work on tablets and

Football is one of the most famous sports played and watched around the world. It is the most
popularly watched sporting event in the world with the World Cup of 2014 hitting a stunning 1.013

home, who watched for at least a minute. Being such a massively played sport, there have been
thousands upon thousands of injuries, this being because it is a contact sport which can be quite
aggressive at times. Internationally, people are very passionate about football which means they

For example, in each game someone doesn t always get a broken leg but everyone is sore within
the next few hours. There are different extremities as to how one can get hurt, meaning wherever
you get hurt (upper or lower body) determines if it is a lower or upper extremity injury.. First of all,
there are the lower extremities which vary in seriousness but all deal with the lower body. In this
category, strains and sprains, cartilage tears and ACL sprains, and fractures and contusions are all
taken care of differently. For example, whilst ACL sprains are mostly very serious to athletes and
can require surgery, strains are in the same exact category yet never require surgery. Following are
the Overuse Lower Extremity Injuries which have more to do with how much an athlete works then
what happens in game. Shin Splints, Patellar Tendinitis (knee pain), and Achilles Tendinitis (ankle
pain) are all very common especially in high schools where practices occur almost daily and as a
result, bones and muscles are overused. Stress added onto an athlete because of overwork can
cause what are called Stress Fractures which is when bones become weak from overuse (for
doctors, it is often puzzling to tell the difference between these and soft tissue injuries.

I Was A Wild One Essay
She was a wild one. A seeker of thrill, she lived from one adrenaline rush to the next. Her life was a
life of apparent bliss, as most of her days were filled with climbing mountains to watch the glorious
Hawaiian sunrises, diving off 50 foot cliffs into mouth wash colored, bathwater temperature oceanic
paradises, surfing with sharks, lazing around on white sandy beaches under palm trees, or enjoying
an ice cold fruit punch while resting in a hammock overlooking the ocean. Privileged enough to
have parents that brought her up understanding the difference between right and wrong and how a
Christian young woman should conduct herself, the knowledge and information rested at her
fingertips. Although she was popular, pretty, smart, funny, outgoing, and had everything going for
her in life, she had one problem: Boys. In her case, she itched for freedom, and the thoughtof taking
a swing at life her own way excited her more than taking the advise of others and her parents.
Looking back, although no one anticipated the outcome, it is easy to understand why what
happened, actually happened. The little choices my friend had been making all the way up until
this point in her life were preparing her for what was ahead, but she failed understand just how
catastrophic the effects truly would be. It really is true the choices you make early on determine
your destiny. The thoughtless thoughts that you don t think really matter all that much actually

Lutheran Religion
For my extra credit project, I went to the Lutheran church in my hometown. I was raised and
confirmed in the Methodist church, so my experience this Sunday was a little different than most of
my Sundays. I learned that there are more differences between the two then I expected. I honestly
did not think that another religion based on Christianitywould be that different. Before the service,
I did a little bit of research of the Lutheran church. I wanted to know what the actual definition of a
Lutheran was, I found a website that gave me some insight. According to the website, A Lutheran
is a person who believes, teaches and confesses the truths of God s Word as they are summarized
and confessed in the Book of Concord ( http://bookofconcord.org,2017).... Show more content on

No matter the denomination, Lutherans emphasize details of the ceremony more than we do at
the Methodist church. Because of the fact that I am not a member of the Lutheran church or
LCMS, I was not allowed to receive communion. I thought that this was strange because
Methodists believe in an open communion instead of a closed one and our pastor always says
everyone is welcome at God s table. The worship consisted mostly of reading the traditional
liturgy. This seemed a lot less personal than the worship services that I am used to. A lot of the
service also took place moving from standing to sitting and back again. Without following visual
cues, it would be very hard to understand exactly what you were supposed to do at different points
within the service if you were new or unfamiliar with Lutheran traditions. Another thing that really
stood out to me was the idea that after the service, you had to wait to be dismissed before leaving
the sanctuary. They dismissed by row to ensure that you had time to talk to the pastor after worship
without being too rushed. Overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot talking to members
of the church. I learned a lot about how traditional and related to catholicism the Lutheran church
actually is. It was fun to get to learn that even though the Lutheran church and the methodist church
are Christian churches, they really are

Dr Heidegger s Experiment Sustainable Happiness
Sustainable Happiness: Dr Heidegger s Experiment
People often look back on their youth with fondness. In youth, life is filled with opportunity,
energy, and beauty that often fades with time. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Dr Heidegger
s Experiment, four elderly friends become the doctor s test subjects. Mr. Medbourne was once a
successful and wealthy merchant who lost everything in a risky trade. Colonel Killigrew wasted
his health and money with sinful pleasures . Mr. Gascoigne was once a successful politician but
was unable to change with the times, making him obsolete. The Widow Wycherly was once
young, beautiful, and sought after by all three men; however as she aged, her beauty aged as well.
As the regretful four drink the water from the Fountain of Youth, they return to being young and it
seems that their problems are solved. However, this youth and everything that goes along with it
does fade, leaving the four as unhappy as they were before, if not more so, because of their constant
search for what they had lost. Although many people find joy in their youth, Hawthorne ... Show

Anchor Institutions Essay
Role of Anchor Institutions
Anchor institutions include hospitals, universities, arts and culture institutions and sports venues.
America s cities run on these types of institutions. Most of the anchor institutions remain
economically strong, even as cities fight job loss. Every anchor institution has planned something to
improve the economy of the neighborhoods.
The key strategies include so many things such as real estate developer; institutions can use real
estate development to anchor local economic growth. Institutions can also use the local workers to
finish large real estate projects. Anchor institutions can also be great purchaser by directing
institutional purchasing toward local business and this is how local businesses get strong. From the
beginning anchor institutions have been biggest employer in American inner cities but to improve

Sal On The Road
In Part Four of On the Road, as Sal says good bye to Dean in preparation for his trip to Mexico,
they reminisce about old friends, with Dean showing Sal a photograph of Camille and his new
baby. Sal questions what their children will think in the future, looking at pictures of their parents
that paint an image of a normal, ordinary life. In contrast, he considers that their lives are actually
rife with chaos and ultimately empty, suggesting that Sal is growing as a person and drifting away
from his aimless lifestyle. While it is possible that Sal is growing up, the sentiments he expresses
are similar to those he had expressed before. Early in Part Two, he seems focused on school, his
writing, and possibly settling down with his girlfriend, Lucille, but all of that is forgotten when
Dean shows up for another adventure. Additionally, Sal mentions sadness and emptiness several
times throughout the novel, particularly at the start or conclusion of a new journey. In another
instance, not long before the pair are looking at photographs, Sal snaps at Dean for needling him
about his age, making him cry. It is the most bitter we see them toward one another, and indicative
that Sal does... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he eventually plans to have his own kids, and that by the time he does, his life will be so settled
that his kids will not question the normalcy shown in the photographs. He has already shown a

The current cost system allocates overhead costs once a year, as a function of direct labor dollars.
This allocation strategy results in:
Inaccurate allocation due to products at various levels of automation No incentive to reduce the
cost of materials A situation where a reduction in production will result in less overhead allocated to
the respective product Lack of incentive for employees to continually reduce their costs throughout
the year as a result of the annual calculation of overhead allocation.
Assuming that the company s goal is to maximize profits, the current cost system is not an
appropriate tool for strategic planning. The ambiguity of the overhead costs per product makes it
difficult to accurately analyze the cause and effect relationships of changes and/or improvements to
specific product line.
If the cost system reported sales volume and/or price we would be able to conduct an activity
analysis to determine an appropriate cost function to determine the best cost driver for each product.
4. Manifold Recommendation Based on Current Cost System
If we assume that the 1991 products, prices, sales volumes, materials costs and overhead are
unchanged from 1990 and that there are no process improvements that would lead to a reduction
in the direct labor of a product, it can be inferred that the company s profits would be identical to
those of 1990, as stated in Appendix B. However, if the same is assumed

are located at Soweto in South Africa. Its mission statement is: To supply chemical free vegetables
for the benefit of both the customers and the shareholders (p.16). The act of the former marketing
manager developing an advertising campaign before the marketing strategy can potentially affect
the company product regarding sales and also increase expenses. This is because when advertising
comes before the marketing strategy, it means that the target audience and their needs are not yet

The value of the product compared to other competitors is because the vegetables are chemical free
as they are organically grown. Clients in this generation have become more concern about health
matters and that why they prefer products that will not affect their health with chemicals.
3. Analysis of the Marketing Mix for Consumer Market
The products offered (vegetables) are according to the needs of the direct consumers who buy for
immediate consumption in their homes. The products are availed in varieties ranging from kales,
onions, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, Dania and cabbage.
The price for the products is customer friendly as most customers are in the middle income level in
this area.
The products are well distributed all over Soweto and the surrounding areas. Customers do not
have to go far in search of the products as they are available in the vegetable kiosks near them.
The direct consumers will be reached through advertising in the local radio stations as this will
cover a mass market.
4. Analysis of the Marketing mix for Business to Business Market
There are many vegetable kiosks which sell to local consumers. These businesses are a good
market for the product and will buy in the whole sale to sell to the direct customers.
The products will be sold in the whole sale that will mean that the price will be lower so that they
can make a profit after they sell to the direct consumers (DhДЃr, 2013).

SONY VAIO LAPTOP LAUNCH IN CHINA
AUGUST 30, 2013
This memorandum is to suggest that Sony should stay on its premium offering and be targeting the
Chinese status focused segment while at the same time working on the Quality of Lifers and
Technosocializers segments and increase their value in our product which as a consequence will
significantly be reinforcing Sony s market share and sales in China within its coming launch of the
VAIO laptop. The company s profits will increase accordingly and Sony gradually will be the
dominant in the laptop s market of China. For that, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The laptop market penetration is currently assessed at 50% of the current addressable market so
growth in this market is slowing. Finding segments within the market that differentiates VAIO
from our competitors is a key to VAIO s future growth in the Chinese laptop marketplace. In the
future it can be expected that as the market matures a larger proportion of future sales will come
from replacements or upgrades instead of sales to new entrants in the laptop market. Additionally,
approximately 50% of the working age population is 35 years old or less and this age range is
driving a move to status seeking in consumer purchases. Customer interviews have shown that
SONY is considered a premium brand.
Although the laptop market will begin to mature with slower growth, we can capitalize on our
strength of being a premium brand when customers choose to replace or upgrade their laptops in
the future. Our marketing program must continue to establish us in the mind of the status seeking
consumer as a premium brand.
With this in consideration and as shown in exhibit 1, analysis from the CLUES report and Project
Compass highlighted six market segments of customers with greater than 60% likelihood to
purchase a laptop within the next 12 months. The SONY brand is considered a premium,
fashionable, status enhancing laptop and this is one of our competitive strengths. After, reviewing
the customer segment descriptions, four of the market segments allow

  • 2. Morality in The Hunt for Red October Essay Morality in The Hunt for Red October While hundreds, even thousands of excellent movies have been made over the years since motion pictures were invented, there are some movies that stand out among the best. There are various reasons for these standouts, sometimes incredible acting, sometimes impeccable story lines, but in many cases, it is the issues addressed by the movie. Most of the greatest movies contain commentaries or analyses of certain issues, be they moral, social, or otherwise. John McTiernan directed one of these films, The Hunt for Red October, based on the similarly titled best selling novel by Tom Clancy. The officers of Ramius crew have also had to make their own moral decisions as they assist Ramius defection. They, too, have had to follow the beliefs of right and wrong instead of the morality that has been given to them by their naval superiors. There is also a moral decision to be made by the KGB agent loyal to the Soviet Union on Ramius submarine, the cook s assistant Loginov. When he discovers that Ramius is intending to defect, he makes the decision to attempt to stop Ramius, even at cost of his own life. The fact that he is against the hero of the movie, Ramius, does not mean that he is evil, although he is seen as such for purposes of the movie. His decision comes from his belief that what Ramius is doing is morally wrong. He believes that defection is treason, and is unacceptable under any circumstances, and he believes that it is his job to prevent this treason. His decision comes from his own moral beliefs, and therefore cannot be labeled as wrong. His beliefs are simply different from Ramius . The Russians are not the only characters that must make moral decisions. The other main character of the movie, Jack Ryan, must face his own moral decisions. To begin, he must decide whether to follow the advice of the military council, or to follow his belief that Ramius is trying to defect. His decision will impact Ramius decision, since if no one believes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organizational Change In Eastman Kodak 1.Introduction Organizational change is the movement of an organization away from its current state and toward some desired future state to increase its effectiveness (Lunenburg, 2010). Changes in the environment often require changes within the organization driving within that environment. Change fatigue is one of the challenges organization face. Change may occur in order to remain competitive in response to new competition. Historically, Kodak was a business built on a culture of innovation and change, which made them very successful, but as achievement grew so did their complacency. The deep rooted source of Kodak s problem was a culture of self satisfaction . Kodak was critically destroyed by its culture, although it was the quick progress of digital photo technology that is commonly blamed for Kodak s demise (Riley, 2015). On the other hand, Kodak s new leadership has not clearly addressed what are Kodak s essential features and neglected the need to transform the Kodak s culture destinies, which may be any possibility of Kodak future succeed. These fragile adolescent years are crucial to the development of the child s behavior, which bares the question of how important a sibling s role plays in this development. Humans learn their behaviors and morals through the interaction with one another, feeding off of each other s experiences. This dependency on others is shown through siblingrelationships, even more so in the story of The Rich Brother . In The Rich Brother , we are introduced to two brothers very different from each other. Pete is a very successful real estate agent, living a normal middle class life with his wife and kids. His brother Donald, rather, lives with a religious group in a commune. Although they had both been raised similarly, they had grown up very differently, shaping their behaviors and personalities today. • 8. Rabbit Proof Fence Film Analysis Rabbit Proof Fence, originally written by Doris Pilkington Garimara in 1996, is a true story, which was adapted into a movie in 2002 by Phillip Noyce. The film captures the adventures of three Aboriginal girls (Molly, 14, Daisy, 8, and Gracie, 10), who escape from an English settlement school after being forcibly taken from their home in Jigalong. The director positions viewers to feel negatively toward the issue of cultural destructiveness through the application of three main conventions. These conventions include characterization, camera angles, and setting. Characterisation is a key convention in the development of the way in which the character will be observed by the audience, as well as camera angles and setting. A.O. Neville, Chief Protector of Aborigines, is a strong example in this point as his character was built up to be powerful. For instance, when A.O. Neville was seated at his desk, in his office, the camera was angled to look up at him. The setting of his costly office in addition to the low camera angle positions spectators to see him as a dominant person. Through the use of characterisation, Noyce has positioned the audience to respond empathetically towards the three girls during the time of their confinement. The film s antagonist, A.O. Neville is characterized to represent a central theme in the issue of cultural destructiveness. This can be proven in a variety of segments within the movie; for instance, A.O. Neville can be seen to have good intentions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4). This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance. Kennedy s speech occured after Martin Luther King s Assassination and Lincoln s happened after he was elected president for a second term. In Robert F. Kennedy s speech, he mentions race, hatred and the lack of compassion we have for one another. Although, in Abraham Lincoln s speech, he mentions the tragedy of the American Civil War, the distribution of slaves, and God. Robert F. Kennedy s speech was intended to bring the nation together as a whole instead of being sepearated by race. Also, Kennedy used this speech to mention that one of his family members were killed by a white man, in order to empathize with everyone who was affected by the news of Dr. King s assassination. His speech included: those of you who are black [...] filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act, against all white people [...] feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. (Kennedy, 1968) Robert F. Kennedy tried his hardest to unite people with this speech about the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted every American, whether they are black, white, hispanic or middle eastern, to acknowledge the lack of compassion, love and unity in our nation. Robert F. Kennedy started his speech by informing everyone that Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. He continued talking about how Martin Luther King dedicated his life to love and justice between fellow human beings . Kennedy then asked everyone in the crowd what kind of nation they were and what direction they want to move in. In Robert F. Kennedy s speech he said: black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward another. [...] with an effort to understand, compassion, and love. • 35. Analysis Of The Point Of View Of A Woman When choosing to lead readers through a novel in the point of view of a woman that is described as so impetuous, yet self contained! Incapable of insincerity, devoid of affection and courageously naturally beautiful. . . . So unlike most women, (Stoddard) Stoddard knows exactly what she is doing. The Morgesons resists the conventionally domestic, passive 19th century feminine ideal and Stoddard purposefully chooses to ignore the previously set paths for a female writer. Instead she chooses to present readers with a narrative that is rich with emotional intensity, physicality, and sexuality. She does this, in order to present us with a character that is on a journey of sexual awakening. Cassandra s varying degrees of hunger in the novel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also most well respected physicians of the time were in agreement that true women felt little or no sexual desire, and that only abnormal or pathological women felt strong sexual desire (Source #2). In fact, being sexually forward in the presence of a man suggested a worrying sexual appetite and is directly in conflict with the notion that a woman only wanted sex in order to procreate and become a mother (Source #1). Being aware of these 19th century conventions, Stoddard would have had a hard time when writing, had she come out and explicitly stated that Cassandra is hungry for acceptance of her sexuality. Thus, it would then have been the question of how could a female writer of that time period cloak the meaning of her writing in a manner that would be accepted while still fighting conventional standards. The obvious choice that is made, is to use hunger as a metaphor for Cassandra s sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction. This may seem like an odd pairing, however, regardless of if Stoddard is aware of it, hunger and sex and a lot in common. As researchers have suggested, Both feeding and sex are goal oriented behaviors, both produce an advantageous outcome, both are triggered by a similar chemical in the brain and both are something that humans in general struggle to satisfy while remaining in line with society s current standards (Source #6). Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction Essay The Literary Genre of Science Fiction In Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Suvin argues that science fiction should be considered its own literary genre. The reason he believes science fiction is distinct from other literary genres is because of its transforming aspects. Suvin describes science fiction as the literature of cognitive estrangement, which includes a novum . It is his belief that both cognition and estrangement must be both present and interactive in science fiction. Although it can be argued that science fiction is not its own literary genre because of its similarities to myth, fantasy, and folktale, it is significantly different from these genres because of its ability to cause the reader to think in ... In Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Darko Suvin defends his cited definition of Science Fiction as its own literary genre, by providing examples and pointing out the similarities and differences arising from the comparison of science fiction to myth, folktale, and fantasy. Suvin says that myths are similar to science fiction in the aspect that they both incorporate the usage of estrangement. However, he points out that there are also many differences between them as well. Science fiction sees the norms of reality as transformable and changeable, whereas myths are the complete opposites. They conceive human relations as fixed and supernaturally determined (8). This mean that the lives of characters are already made for them and that they do not have the ability to change what will happen to them. Folktale is also similar to science fiction where it defies the rules and laws of the empirical environment. However, folktales go above and beyond transforming the empirical environment, it creates a closed collateral world indifferent to cognitive possibilities (8). This means that in the world created in a folktale, anything is possible. He uses the example of a flying carpet, stating, The flying carpet evades the empirical law of physical gravity (8).
