2. Merit Pay Retains Quality
Teachers
What makes a quality teacher?

                           •
                           But the research shows:
Today's system                  Having a masters degree alone
                                has little to no effect on student
rewards:                        test scores.
                           •    After the first the first three years
•   Seniority                   of teaching, teachers are as
                                skilled in their 30th year of

•   Academic credentials
                                teaching as they were in their
                                5th.

•   Years of experience
Instead, we should focus on a

    Value Added Model,

 and compensate teachers
       accordingly.
3. New research is showing
positive results of merit pay on
student test scores.
