OTHER STRATEGIES TO HELP
IMPROVE MEMORY
Strategy 1: Write & Recite

because there is a direct connection
between the hand and the brain

Strategy 2: Use your senses
Using multiple senses when learning helps increase memory
Visual
■ Turn words into pictures which are easily
encoded in the brain making it easier and
quicker to remember
■ Mind maps, drawings, spider diagram
■ Example- make a sheet of paper with your
visuals to the bedroom wall—scanning it in
the morning and in the evening will quickly
absorb it into your memory
Auditory
Adding auditory input to visual input
will further enhance the learning
experience and significantly
improve the ability to recall.

Olfactory
■ Associate smells to help you trigger your brain’s memory
of that association
Example: Wearing a particular perfume while studying can
help recall that information later triggered by the same
smell
Strategy 3: The Rhyming Peg
Uses visual imagery to provide a ‘hook’ from which
to hang or associate your memories
Strategy 3: The Rhyming Peg
 Learn the peg words list and visualized
each of those rhymes against the number
 Associating the items you want to
remember with the visualized memory
‘pegs’ you already have
Strategy 4: The Memory Palace
Visualizing a familiar place and using
it as a place where you can deposit
concept-images that you want to
remember
