1. Memento A Cinematic Close-up: Using Memento to encourage visual aids in the college curriculum
2. THE Film Movement How do you feel about the way one of your current professors structures their classroom? Are you satisfied with their teaching styles or do you think other visual aids, such as film, should be integrated?
3. When a teacher presents the showcasing of a film, after introducing the text version, does that help you understand, analyze, or retain the subject matter more clearly?
4. My chemistry professor does not use any form of visual aids. Film would definitely help me in my chemistry class to walk thru examples. Film was integrated in my philosophy class last semester. It made me pay more attention and broke the class up a bit from just lecturing When a teacher just lectures the whole time it makes the class boring. I like films. :-) I think film might be integrated to great success, but it would be difficult to find the balance between film aided teaching and teaching aided film I am comfortable with the teachers structure One of my professors uses Lectures and Powerpoints together. Usually, these work well, but Powerpoints do not always follow what she is saying and it can be confusing. Perhaps if she incorporated videos/film into her class, there would be less contradiction between mediums. I think in my english class Ms. Wayne does a good job of using visual tools such as slide shows and little videos to help us understand what she is teaching better. I think as far as English goes this is enough visual aid. As for other classes there could be even more visual aids involved
6. “Various scholars have concluded that various forms of film can be a powerful tool to stimulate learning in the classroom. Do you believe that film can be a beneficial tool in educations students? Why or Why not?’
7. Student Responses Yes it can be beneficial, because it can help people gain bigger concepts and retain more information, and a film can make dull things seem more interesting. I think it can be a beneficial tool because it shows students examples. It might make learning some material more exciting. The only downside is when teachers announce that we'll be watching a film or movie, people tend to fall asleep because the lights are off Yes. If used as a supplement and not the main means to educate students, it can help in keeping students engaged. Also, some people are more visual learners and film caters to their style of learning. yes, because it shows them rather than just telling them. and in return will help better retain more information about sed subject yes, but the film must be exciting enough for the audience and pertain to exactly what the topic is about which is hard and many time ineffective
9. Can you please tell me a brief summary of how you felt viewing the film, and you reaction to the directors purpose in creating it? “ I felt confused frustrated angry and than I realized the movie is actually nothing complicated. The story doesn’t matter because a lie is a lie. Also the fact of your life is what you believe….” “I felt like naturally watching this kind of movie you are put in a position to analyze and be engaged because you have allowed yourself purpose in creating it. I feel it’s not faith based….” “I felt engaged in the story and interested in trying to understand the director’s purpose in creating the movie….”
