Mein Kampf Vs. The Word Shaker
Literature is inherently human and describes the best and worst of our nature. Law & order versus
criminal behaviour. In society we have both, though the former is good and the latter is not. Helping
versus hurting ‎
those we know –particularly if they are vulnerable. Jesus said "that which you do
unto the least of my brothers, you do unto me." This is as true today and it was over 2000 years ago.‎
The decisions by the Hubermann's to shelter Max (a Jew) from persecution is an example of how
individuals, acting according to their moral conscience, can do good. The Third Reich placed the
State above the individual. It ranked its citizens giving some of them higher status than others.
Ethnicity was the determining factor which left Jews, Gypsies, ... Show more content on

Mein Kampf versus The Word Shaker supports this example in reference to how both books
describe the struggles of the author. The former uses words to harm (anti–semitic words) while the
latter uses words to help (through reinforcing the best qualities of Man). This is exemplified through
the following quotation,"I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made
them right. (Zusak 528)" The significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of the
helpfulness and harmfulness of words in reference to Liesel stating that she both loves and hates
words due to their content, thus showing the theme of the power of words. Furthermore, Nazi book
burning suppresses free speech (the surest sign a society has reached the tipping point to evil is
when it orders the destruction of knowledge). By way of contrast, Liesel stands up and speaks truth
to power by stealing a book from the Nazi's flames. This is displayed through the following
quotation, "The book thief had struck for the first time – the beginning of an illustrious career,
(Zusak 29)" The significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of harmfulness and
helpfulness of words in reference to Liesel's rebel–like character in stealing as a result of the
harmful rules put into play thus showing the power of words. Later in the story, Max paints over the
hateful pages of Mein Kampf to write a story for Liesel. Here, he substitutes evil words with his
own compassionate language. This is evident in the following quotation, "There were the erased
pages of Mein Kampf, gagging, suffocating under the paint as they turned. (Zusak 237)" The
significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of the harmfulness and helpfulness of
words in reference to the harmful effect Mein Kampf had on Max to drive him to colouring over the
pages and creating a new story thus

Donovan Jacobs Essay
Donovan Jacobs was the son of Theodore and Amitra Jacobs, the best lawyers in all of Cincinnati.
Hell, they were the best lawyers in all of Ohio. They lived in the richest neighbourhood, sent their
son to the leading private school, Hathaway Brown School, and made sure his grades were fine
enough to get him into Harvard Law easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Donovan was a guy every girl
wanted. He was tall, he was athletic, he was easy going, fun, and adventurous. He also had a
charming laugh and an olive glow to his skin that just did not fade, no matter the season. Except,
Donovan was not the boy he showed to his friends and everyone else at school. He had three years

And when Donovan caught Michaelis staring as tossed him a lazy smile, Michaelis would try to
hide the blush creeping into his face and stare back down at his homework. He would silently
chastise himself for looking too long stare at his books until his brain was re–focused on AP Biology
or Calculus. Michaelis had known he was gay for a long time. He had even suspected Donovan of
being gay but was too scared to ask. He knew he had feelings for Donovan but pushed them down in
case his best mate was heterosexual and wanted nothing to do with him that was not platonic. But
when Donovan dragged Michaelis into the boys' bathroom in the middle of a Chemistry exam
during the tenth grade and omitted to him that he was gay, hope blossomed in the centre of
Michaelis' heart. Michaelis' heart thumped in his chest on the walk back to his exam, and he could
barely focus. When Donovan came out to his parents, he did not get the reaction he expected. Yes,
he assumed they would be upset, maybe even slightly disappointed at first, but eventually
understand and continue to love him. So when his mother stood from where she was sitting, drew
her hand back, and struck Donovan across the face, he did not know what to do. Tears welled in his
eyes and utter silence settled in the room. Donovan had never been a child to ask for much, for his
parents gave him everything he needed when he deserved it. And he always deserved

Are The Pros And Cons Of George Pullman's Capitalist Utopia
Almost every culture has strived to achieve a Utopian society, however, it has proven very tough to
achieve. A Utopian society is a community possessing high desirable or near perfect qualities.
Several such societies had been to presented to us in class and include, Brook Farm, founded by
George and Sophia Ripley, a society which stressed education. Fruitlands, founded by Bronson
Alcott, a society which practiced not harming any animals in any way and wasting no materials. The
Shakers, founded by Mother Ann Lee, a society focused on equality among all and having a good
community. Finally, Pullman's Capitalist Utopia, founded by George Pullman, where the working
class would be at the top. Considering the pros and cons of all four communities, the Shakers are
most desirable because they had longevity, lasting for 200 years and although their numbers are few
they still exist today, they had a strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people question, "How could the Shakers last so long if they were not able to have
intercourse?" The Shakers adopted children and young people into their community and made them
part of their family. This meant that people had the desire to join the community or else the
community would not continue to grow. Communities that last for a long time usually have a solid
belief system that people find desirable. The Shakers philosophy was ahead of their time. Long
before slavery was outlawed or women had the right to vote in America, the Shakers believed that
all people were equal. Many of the people living in America during the 1700 and 1800's left their
homelands in order to avoid religious persecution and to have a better life and these such people
would have found the Shaker society desirable. Since their community was growing and had the
basic necessities in order to survive, the Shakers had more time to focus on other things such as

Ann Lee Research Paper
Ann Lee was born on February 29, 1736. There is not much account on her childhood, therefore, it
is hard to depict if her childhood had any influence on her later, more known life. She exhibited
religion and living in Manchester, England accounted for the moral decay of it. She sought spiritual
refuge and ended up finding the Shaking Quakers, a religious society. This group would express
their sins, dance, sing, violently shake, and shout. The Shakers were disruptive to peace, and Ann
herself was jailed. During imprisonment, she had a lot of visions and spiritual contributions and "by
a special manifestation of divine light the present testimony of salvation and eternal life was fully
revealed to her," she became the leader or "mother" of the

Shakers In The 18th Century
Shakers were a religious sect, founded in the 18th Century in England, having branched off from a
Quaker community. They were known as the "Shaking Quakers" due to their ecstatic behaviour
during worship services. Since the late Eighteenth Century, Shakers exerted an influence
disproportionate to the size of their communities. Their approach helped shape everything in terms
of craftsmanship and ingenuity. The innovative spirit they brought to simply, Godly living is indeed
the most timeless aspect of their legacy. Shaker style of architecture, furniture as well as decorative
arts were effectively characterised by traditional Shaker utility and fine craftsmanship. The element
of order and the absence of clutter reflected on the lack of ornamentation ... Show more content on

The design solutions for individual Shaker buildings were often formulated in response to the
demands of communal living. Buildings that were used by both men and women, such as
meetinghouses and dwellings, incorporated separate entrances and stairways as their beliefs were

requirements such as to include large, uninterrupted floor space in order to allow for their religious
dances as well as requiring a huge truss to support the roof. Dwellings included communal rooms on
the ground floor but thoroughly segregated bedrooms on the floors above. These large dwellings
also necessitated the introduction of interior windows to bring in the natural light into dark interior
rooms to complement each other. Wood peg rails were a feature of many rooms, built on all four

LeAnne Howe's novel Shell Shaker describes the family history and drama of a Choctaw family. In
chapter 6, Auda Billy is being questioned about the murder of chief Redford McAlester. During
Auda's confession, she exposes the corruption of Native American gambling, she states "As you
know, because we're a sovereign nation, there's no external oversight of the casino operations. Only
three people– Red, Vico D'Amato and Carl Tonica– were privy to the real set of books, not the
phony ones they submit to the BIA"(Howe 90). Here Auda explains how she knew that her tribe was
laundering of money but did not take steps to intervene the situation. As Auda states that there were

Utopian Societies Impact
Utopian communities have had an incredible impact on both American society and various
recognized religious sects throughout the United States as a whole. Many people saw, and still see,
democratic government as unfair, leaving the poor behind to become poorer while the rich
continued to get richer; they felt a change in work and fairness was officially in order. Utopian
societies were created with commendable intentions, and their idea of the perfect cooperative
society is an attractive conference, but they were all considered experiments because they all
declined swiftly and hopelessly. The western concept of utopias stem in the age–old world, where
fables of a carnal arcadia lost to history, linked to the human ambition to build an ideal community,
abetted in forming the utopian notion ("Utopias in America"). Ideal communities have varied
considerably in philosophy and design, and maybe not all have been persistently utopian in the
draconian understanding of hoping to achieve a system for a "perfect" community. Utopian
"communitarianism" seems to have deeper roots set in the United States than in Western Europe,
more specifically in actually putting philosophy into practice. This composite mental image may
appear misplaced in a nation with an intense admiration towards individuality, but the perseverance
amongst these societies brings to light quite a bit about the incredibly diverse American culture,
notably how the sexes have thought of cultural advancement and how

Challenges Faced In Richard Harland's World Shaker
When you are faced with a challenge you should always confront the situation, show courage,
persistence and use integrity. Col, the main character in the Richard Harland novel 'World Shaker' is
faced with many challenges throughout the story. However, he does not respond to any of his
challenges in a positive manner. Throughout the novel Col proves that he deals with his situations
negatively. Though he grows in a sense of character, he's decisions are still very poor when he isn't
reliant on Riff.
The first significant challenge Col faces is when he discovers a filthy in his bedroom. His reaction to
this problem was not well handled, as he locked the girl into his cupboard and covered his head with
a pillow to hide from his thoughts. Chapter 2, page 9 'Although a million thoughts chased around his
head, his mind refused to work on solutions. It was all too difficult.' The quote states that Col
doesn't know how to handle the situation and thinks that by locking Riff in a closet will help remove
his problems. This is a negative way to deal with a situation, when Col could have stopped to think
about other ways to confront his problem. Another solution to the problem could've been calling out
for the guards to come take her away. Col's response was pursued negatively as he hid from his
problems instead of confronting them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

frustration boiled up in a burst of rage. He sprang after her and grabbed the book with both hands.'

when he tries to tackle Riff in an attempt to retrieve his book. His actions were shown negatively as
he grew in an environment where he received anything he wanted and everyone acted

How is science relevant in the modern day?
Adnan Shaker notice how helpful it is. The best example of this is how we use electricity in our
everyday lives, from the lights that we us to light up the streets to the computers and televisions that
we use as entertainment and work in our everyday lives. Science makes our lives way quicker. A
journey that would take weeks or months now takes days or even hours, thanks to airplanes and our
personal automobiles.
Science affects our lives from day to night, from the time we wake up to the time we sleep, all day

Before modern agriculture people had to guess which plants you could and couldn't eat. It could be
very risky considering some plants can look like other edible plants but it turned our that they are
actually extremely poisonous. Some plants that you eat when fully grown make you sick, some do
the same when they are not as grown. Some berries that look dangerous, like raspberries, grow on
thorns but are safe to eat, but other berries that don't look harmful, such as the "American
bittersweet," are poisonous and may indeed harm the body. When we find a plant or berry that is
actually edible we use agriculture to protect and multiply that species of plant. Agriculture brought
our curiosity our and made us ask ourselves questions. Why did this plant have longer roots than the
other? How can we create this result in other plants? How does water and sunlight affect the growth
of plants? How does the fertility of the soil affect the plants growth? Can we cross–breed these

Utopian Societies: Brook Farm
In the years leading up to the Civil War, the woman's sphere was expanding through social
movements to remake and reform mainstream American society as a whole. No group of women,
however, expanded to new territory as much as certain utopian societies allowed them to. These
settlements sprang up in the 1830s and 1840s and called for radical changes in women's sexual and
reproductive lives. These societies were not based on the nuclear family and posed challenges to
conventional notions of marriage. These utopian societies were the Shakers, the Oneida community,
and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, more commonly known as the Mormons. These
three groups were all inspired by radical Christian notions of "human perfectibility", but other
experiments existed that based their lifestyles off of more secular ideas. The most famous of these
secular experiments was Brook Farm, founded in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1841. The Shakers
represented one end of the spectrum for these utopian societies. Shakes prohibited all sexual
relations, even within marriage. Men and women lived and worshipped separately, but came
together to dance and sing their religious joys. They could not reproduce biologically, so the Shakers
took in orphans, apprentices, individuals fleeing from unhappy families and destitute widows. The
Shaker community appealed strongly to women due to their celibate way of life and alternative
family structure. Their founder and chief saint was a woman called

Analysis Of Liesel Meminger And The Word Shaker
World War II, Nazi Germany, 1939. Liesel Meminger is a young girl who is going to a new foster
family in Molching, Germany with her brother. Though the narrator, death took Liesel's brothers
life, at his funeral Liesel finds a grave digger's handbook and steals it. From this point on, Liesel
learns how to read the gravedigger's handbook and many other books from her foster papa Hans
Hubermann. After years of learning how to read, a Jewish man named Max Vandenburg hides in the
basement of the Hubermanns house to not get caught by the Nazi Party. Max and Liesel discover
that they have the same passion for words and reading. Max starts to write books for Liesel called
"The Standover Man" and "The Word Shaker", that is about Max's and the Jewish struggles while
incorporating the friendship created with Liesel. In particular, "The Word Shaker" was the story of
Führer taking over the world with words that spread like wildfire and grew into trees to create a
forest. While one girl had to power to overpower the Nazi trees grown by the use of her words, that
could not be cut down until the power of friendship from an axeman torn down some of the shorter
Nazi trees. The underlying message of "The Word Shaker" written by Max Vandenburg is that the
power of words used for good can create friendship and will overpower the words used in an
appalling way. Words are a use of power, that can be used towards good and bad. In the beginning
of "The Word Shaker", Führer tries to find a way to

Negativity In The Word Shaker
"All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present.
Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not
enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of
nonforgiveness are caused by too much past and not enough presence." – Eckhart Tolle To me, this
quote accurately identifies the cause of much of the negativity in one's everyday life; I wouldn't say
all negativity can be explained by this quote, but a vast majority of it can be. Fear, which can
manifest itself in various forms, is caused by focusing too much on what is yet to come; essentially,
one fixates on things or events that cannot be anticipated or ... Show more content on

The first example of negativity occurred over the course of the dress rehearsals and performances of
"Borne Back," the Brenau University Dance Department's Senior Thesis and Faculty Concert. I
designed and constructed the costumes for two pieces in the show, but I experienced an issue with
one of the dancers in "The Word Shaker." The costumes for this piece involved arm bands, which
were strips of mesh that were tied and wrapped around the dancers' arms. I asked the dancers to
completely untie the strips when they are removed after the piece, rather than simply slipping them
off with the knots intact; leaving the strips tied made it difficult and time–consuming to put them on
again for the next run, as the knots had to be untied before they could be wrapped around the
dancers' arms. Even when asked multiple times, one dancer refused to untie the knots. Therefore, I
spent 3–4 of the rehearsals/performances trying to hurriedly untie the strips, which took up
unnecessary time when the dancers only had one dance to get ready for "The Word Shaker." I do
think this somewhat fits Tolle's explanation of negativity; it could be argued that the negativity was
caused because I was dwelling on this dancer's past inability to follow simple instructions. However,
I do not think the negativity was my doing because a college level dancer should be able to be
responsible and respectful; my annoyance was

Argumentative Essay On Muscle Cars
Muscle Cars with Shaker Hoods
The Classic Muscle Car with a Shaker Hood
Owning a muscle car with a shaker hood isn't for everybody. Even fans of aggressive looking hood
scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a
giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner.
However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this
option will continue to be a popular one. Here we'll discuss some of the All–American muscle cars
that made this option available. We'll also discuss a few problems associated with an air scoop
connected to a moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the hood.
Background on the Shaker Hood
Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let's quickly give this part a
definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a unique
hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Customers in the muscle car market liked the idea
of a ram air set up to improve airflow on [the single four barrel carburetor] mounted on the Cobra

Popular for their distinctively simple and well crafted goods, architecture and apparel, the Shakers
and the utopian villages they created continue to be a strong draw with visitors. With such a clear
connection evident between their philosophy and the tangible mementoes of that philosophy, they
are an important case study for anyone interested in modern, functional, high–quality design. The

Due to President Clinton's interest and persistence for education reform a significant improvement
has been seen since the implement of his reform policy. Before the reform policy, students faced

presented with higher standards focusing in core subjects and funding for low–performing schools
so they can invest in proven reform strategies. A principal from Georgia had this to say regarding
President Clinton's education reform: "Over the last eight years, President Clinton has proven a
friend to education. Increased funding for critical investments, such as teacher development, greater
resources and reduced class sizes, are just several contributions..." ("The clinton–gore

congress and the senate and was signed into effect by President Bush in 2002. The act was a
reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The NCLB Act set requirements

IDEA operates by 6 principles known as the following: due process, equal protection, zero reject,
free and appropriate public education, least restrictive environment, and nondiscriminatory
assessments. Due process is the course of formal proceedings carried out regularly and in
accordance with established rules and principles. Equal protection is a part of the Fourteenth
amendment. This became effective in 1868 and provides citizens the right to have equal protection
of the law. Zero reject is a term that says no child can be denied an education because they are
considered ineligible to learn. Regardless of a certain disability, a child will still be given a chance
at an education under the zero reject law. This law also protects children who may have committed a
crime the chance to have an education. Free and appropriate education (FAPE) is another principle
associated closely with IDEA. This is sometimes mistaken for IDEA. However, under FAPE,

Essay on Shaker Communities
Shaker Communities
During the 1800's many utopian societies sprouted in the United States. Most of these societies
blossomed and faded quite quickly, but one group did not fade away like the others. This society
successfully combined their faith with the reasoning of the changing times and kept their
communities going strong. They are or known as the Shakers, or more formally as the members of
the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing. The Shakers were inventors and
thinkers who challenged many traditional thoughts and beliefs. Even today, people marvel and
wonder at the Shakers and their communities, which have survived for over two hundred and twenty
years and whose influences on society still are present today. ... Show more content on

There they bought the land that maintained one of their longest living communities in what came to
be known as Watervliet.2
At this point Shakerism as it is known today was born. The original Shakers who came to America
believed that God had a dual–nature, which meant that he was both male and female to them, and
that Christ would come again and be embodied in a female. Many of these early followers of the
Shaker Way saw Ann Lee as being Christ embodied as a woman. Therefore the Shakers could not
deny women equality with men. A woman founded Shakerism and women were able to maintain
equal standing with men as religious leaders.3 The Shaker Way generally called for a fundamental
transformation from its members, asking them to "turn from the narrowness of individual self to the
Union of all of us together in the One Christ in whom there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free,
male nor female (Gal. 3:28)".4 Specifically, Shakers were supposed to grow by learning to
recognize gifts and relating them to each other. They also needed to work together in an attempt to
live their daily lives as simply as the early Shakers had through hard work.
Shakerism favored celibacy and went against common American Christian beliefs, yet it both
prospered and grew from the late 18th through the 19th centuries. The community laid aside in

America 's Communal Utopias By Ann Lee
After reading through many articles about many different religious groups in "America's Communal
Utopias", I have observed many different communities grow using both similar and different ways
to find their own success. Two societies in particular, that struck me in their techniques to survive
were, the Shakers and the Mormons. Both of these religious groups today are still successful. Both
groups used methods of economics, gender roles, and their relationship to the outside world to find
their own success in the religious community. The shakers arose in the 17th century making them
one of the earliest religious groups or sects today. They came to America with only nine members
and then largely grew to about 4,000 by 1850. Over the last 200 years since they originated, about
20,000 Americans have spent a portion of their lives living as part of this religion. Ann Lee was the
founder of the Shakers from 1736–1784. Many of her believers were found to be revolutionaries but
not in the normal way we would have expected. The shakers are a society of people who believe in
the second appearing of Christ, which is a sect of the Christian religion. They went about life in a
unique way compared to any other religious group. They explored and demonstrated very erratic
behaviors to accomplish their life and religious goals. The four components of Shaker ideology are
celibacy, communalism, confession of sin, and separation from the outside world. Along with the
shakers, the Mormons

The Book Thief
"Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs." – Pearl Strachan Hurd. The
Book Thief is a story about Liesel Meminger, a nine–year–old German girl who lives with Hans and
Rosa Hubermann after her mother was forced to give her away. I believe the most important
example of the power of words in The Book Thief is Max's word shaker story because of Hitler and
Liesel's influence. The first reason the word shaker story is the most important example of the
power of words is because it shows, not just tells, how Hitler took over Germany with his words.
For example, "Yes, the Führer decided that he would rule the world with his words. 'I will never fire
a gun,' he devised. 'I will not have to' (Zusak 445). This shows, not just

Ann Lee The Shakers Essay
In the nineteenth century it was not common for women to have much rights let alone to govern a
society. The Shakers Community was created by Ann Lee later known as Mother Lee, she led the
community until her death and later it was led by equal male and female members. This community
strived to live as equals even as some of its members did not agree that gender should be viewed as
equal. Even though women in society are viewed as not having any authority, women within the
Shaker Community were able to hold authority because Ann Lee created this society so that men
and woman are viewed equally and on the same level.
Mother Ann Lee created the Shakers with belief that she was sent from God to be the leader. She
created rules and laws allowing women to have more rights than the outside societies. She made it
as though the male and female were equally as important to society.
The doctrine of the group was basically Christian, but it contained a number of original features. It
stressed the dual male–female nature of the Godhead and proclaimed the return of the Christ Spirit,
once embodied in Jesus, in the person of Ann Lee. This quiet Parousia marked the beginning of a
final dispensation in which all who repent and adopt the Shaker way of life can live without sin
awaiting salvation. Another extremely important element of both the doctrine ... Show more content

The Shakers In Christ's Second Appearing
The Shakers The United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, commonly known as
the Shakers, conducted the largest and most successful communal experiment in American history.
While today there is only one active Shaker community, with three members, at Sabbathday Lake in
Maine, at its height during the mid–nineteenth century, this Protestant sect had more than six
thousand members spread across eighteen communities, from Maine to Kentucky. The largest and
most influential community was established at New Lebanon, New York, in 1787 and remained
active until 1947. Shakers first came to America from England in 1774. Led by the prophet Ann
Lee, this small and radical group of English Quakers believed that the millennium–the thousand

Thanksgiving Vs. Classic Foods Becoming Too Boring
Thanksgiving is celebrated annually as a national holiday with feast to feed a nation, but will this
family go on with this year 's festivities over a debate against classic foods becoming too boring?
Every year on the first of November, a tan tattered box with a poorly drawn turkey on the sides
labeled "Thanksgiving" is removed from the attic and dusted off to retrieve festive decor for the
eleventh month of the year. Delicately placed in the center of the kitchen displayed for everyone are
a pair pilgrim salt and pepper shakers, George and Alice. This classic pair are the usual conductors
to the Thanksgiving preparations due to their semi–permanent location where they are able to travel

"Alice! stop you're getting salt everywhere!" George exclaimed grabbing his parenter by the soldiers
trying to calm her down.
"How can you be so calm? We'll be stuck up in the dark forever! Confined is that damp horrible
box! You know I get claustrophobic, I can't be stuck in their for years collecting dust!"
"Alice please! We won't! Take this baggage as motivation to prepare the best Thanksgiving meal of
the year! Everything will work out don't worry! The kids are so young, they'll change their minds by
the time they arrive home."
"I can't sit around all day thinking about this issue doing nothing. I'm going to the fridge to discuss
with the foods who are already preparing for this year 's feast." Alice began to climb down the table.
George shivered hearing a klink as Alice hit the icy marble tile. George began pacing, wondering
could the family truly not follow up with Thanksgiving this year? As the dust covered clock
sounded every second with a click, George's anxiety grew until the refrigerator creeks open. He was
blinded with a white light that danced across the kitchen. "Alice?" George shouted across the open
room. "Well, when are you going to join me?" Alice asked, as she began to climb into the chilled
environment of the fridge. George's body shook, releasing flakes of pepper, as his uneasiness was
released from his body, knowing that his wife successfully traveled across the kitchen. George

Shakers In Christ's Second Great Awakening
In the early nineteenth century, as a response to industrialism and new democratic ideas, the Second
Great Awakening spread across the United States prompting a religious revival. As a result, many
people became devoted to bringing about reform. One active group at the time was the United
Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, or Shakers, led by Ann Lee, commonly known as
Mother Ann Lee. They were known for their "hands to work and their hearts to God" mentality, and
the ideals and practices of the Shakers caused them to be among the first in America to advocate
pacifism, abolition of slavery, equality of the sexes, communal ownership of goods, and absolute
celibacy. Thus, during the antebellum period, Mother Ann Lee reflected early ... Show more content

They defined freedom as religious liberty and toleration within a pluralistic society. After facing
many restrictions in England, Ann Lee and her community was encouraged by "various visions they
had of the converts awaiting them in the New World". Although Mother Ann Lee believed she was
liberating people from the religious constraints placed on them by society and others, doing this
placed a new type of restriction on the members. The Shakers strongly believed that life with God
begins with confession and is perfected through celibacy. They claimed that the fall of Adam and
Eve was not because of the devil tempting them into eating a fruit from the forbidden tree but
because of sexual intercourse. As a powerful preacher, Ann Lee convinced her followers to confess
their sins, give up individual goods, be celibate and give up marriage in order to be free of all of

An Age Of Reform Swept
An age of reform swept through our nation due to the unfairness that was happening in our country.
Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol
and humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and
changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and
radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and
changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a
change was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance
Society directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker
(Foner 440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands
of Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to
less than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost,
the temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441).
Horace Mann who was a lawyer and a Whig politician was the leading education reformer for his
era. Mann hoped that universal public education could restore equality to a fractured society by
bringing the children of all classes together in a common learning experience and equipping the less

The And Shakers By John Godber
"Bouncers" and "Shakers" by John Godber are two captivating plays that challenge gender
boundaries and explore the concepts of the stereotypical male and female roles within society.
Therefore, the aim of our company was to explore gender stereotypes and gender elasticity through
our adapted version of "Bouncers and Shakers". Thus, bring to light the gender boundaries by
delving into the roles of masculinity and femininity with us the actors portraying few roles, as well
as challenge the perception that females should play female characters and males should play male
characters. Furthermore, as we have discovered from previous years of study, the work of
practitioner/playwright's Sarah Kane and Steven Berkoff offer a great flexibility of gender, therefore
we looked into their texts, style and performances in our rehearsal process. On the same hand, we
strived to create quite eccentric, melodramatic style of the piece, however still showing
conventional and truthful characterisations. Thus, the experience we wanted to create for the
audience was to make people relate to these stereotypes and raise questions about the construction
of gender. We tried to achieve this by showing scenes from everyday life that everyone can relate to,
for instance hairdresser saloon, barbershop, pubs and night life. As we started our research, one of
the first things we did as a group was to go to real life places (barbershops and hairdresser saloons),
hence connect to the atmosphere and

The American Revolution And The Civil War
Hello Mom I know I haven't sent you a letter in the past but I figured now was better then ever. I am
finishing up a my semester in my religion class and there is a lot I want to share with you. Between
the American Revolution in 1776 and the Civil War in 1840 a lot changed in American religion.
There are three major religious movements during that time period I would love to tell you about,
they are, the birth Shakers and the Pleasant Hill Community, the birth of Mormons with Joseph
Smith, and the story of "How the American Revolution Agreed to Differ over Religion". I hope you
find these topics as important and interesting as I do. In 1774 Mother Ann Lee founded a utopian
society in Europe, later to be known as Shakers (Shaker Presentation). Immediately after her
founding she moved to America in order to escape religious persecution. Once in America the large
religious market place gave the Shakers the opportunity to expand. By 1823 the religious movement
had grown dramatical with 18 to 21 communities and 4000 to 5000 members. During this time 3
members left a community in New York in hopes to start a new community, they acquired three
followers during there travels and one had a farm in Pleasant Hill Kentucky, in 1806 a total of 44
members started a new Shaker community there. By 1823 it had grown to the third largest Shaker
community with 491 members and over 4500 acres. The Pleasant Hill community and all Shakers

`` Tree Shaker : The Life Of Nelson Mandela, By Bill Keller
One of the most influential figures of the 20th century Nelson Mandela, was anti–apartheid activist
and was the first South African president to be elected in a completely representative democratic
election. However, Mandela's journey to that point is really what would define him. Nelson Mandela
would devote the majority of his life constantly challenging the systems of his country in order to
reach the Africa he had in mind. His legacy has inspired millions and has left a major impact on
society. The book "Tree Shaker: The Life of Nelson Mandela," by Bill Keller, presents valuable
insight into the existence of the real Nelson Mandela. In the first chapter of the book Keller
emphasizes the continuing adversities the South African people had to endure. When minors in the
city of Kimberly started uncovering valuable minerals this made it possible for the Afrikaners (white
superiors) to easily entrap, and arraign the South Africans. Afrikaners are a group of South Africans
who descended from mainly Dutch settlers and have traditionally dominated South Africa's politics
and agriculture. Also, the mines allowed the Afrikaners to take possession of the imminent profits
and oppress the Africans. The Afrikaners collected a lot of resources from these mines, in which
they sold to make money. In doing this the South Africans sink deeper into poverty. African people
worked in these mines while the dominant whites would strip them of their rights and belongings
forcing them into

Oneida Community, Shakers And The Mormons
The Utopian Movement consisted of several communities searching for a utopia, an ideal society.
The communities were the Amana Society, New Harmony, Brook Farm, Oneida Community,
Shakers and Mormons. The ones I found the most interesting were the Oneida Community and the
Mormons. What interested me about the Oneida Community was not that they were all for group
marriage and free love, what I found interesting about the community was how they adapted so
quickly into a manufacturing community. I assumed that before the trap inventor joined them that
they were not doing well financially. Another thing that surprised me about them was how they were
able to get so many resources to manufacture their products. I imagine that finding steel and silver

How Did The Shakers Achieve A Utopian Society
Utopian societies are often regarded as impossible to achieve due to the many avenues of failure.
There exist the idea that the perfect community is unattainable simply because of their idealistic
nature; that perfection is impossible. The Shakers were the closest utopian society in America. By
following some basic principles, the Shakers were successful in achieving a utopian society and,
even after their downfall, were able to have a lasting legacy for years to come.
The Shakers were founded by a woman named Ann Lee in England (Holloway). Lee, at a young
age, was uncomfortable with sexuality and relations with the opposite sex (Hogan). Despite her
dislike of sexual relationships, Lee's father forced her to marry and gave birth to four children.

The first was "Purity in mind and body, including a virgin life, as exemplified and inculcated by
Jesus Christ, as the way that leads to God" (Youngs). This principle emphasized their celibacy
because of their belief that one's sexuality is owed to God. However, it is important to note that
although men and women were equal, they lived in different spheres and had different
responsibilities. However, each of the gender roles were no more important than the other. Another
principle was "a united interest in all things is their general order," which stated that they must do all
things for the betterment of their community. They also believed in "the suitable education of
children, in scriptural and other useful knowledge and science," which further exemplified their
open–minded philosophy towards science and led to their success economically. Lastly, they
believed in the "Honesty and integrity in all their words and dealings; according to the precept of the
Saviour," which made them value hard work. These important principles led to the success of the

James Bond: The Modern Day Shaker
James Bond, the fictional Secret Service Agent and cultivated martini drinker, fastidiously insisted
that his martinis be "shaken, not stirred"; however his preference of shakers was never specified.
Unbeknownst to the average cocktail drinker, there are 3 varieties of shakers to assist bartenders in
their craft: the Boston shaker, the Parisian shaker, and the cobbler shaker. Although each shaker was
created in different parts of the world, each one has the same objective – to produce the perfect
beverage. Prior to the contemporary shaker, it is thought that scooped–out gourds were used in
ancient Mexico and South America to mix spices and other condiments into liquid refreshments.
Until the debut of the modern–day shaker in the 1840s, bartenders

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Spear-Shaker By Allan Hall
The article was written by Allan Hall, who reviewed the book and gives us an exceptional overview
of the author's own arguments from each chapter. Hall first addresses that Kurt Kreiler, the author of
the book, was an established Shakespeare scholar who gives mountains of evidence in his book to
prove that we have been revering the wrong man for many centuries. Instead, Kreiler claims that
Edward de Vere actually wrote them, by stating that some of de Vere's well–known works have a
strong "Shakespearean style" and also makes clear that there is some sort of connection between
Shakespeare and Earl's nickname– "Spear–shaker." Kreiler goes on to talk about de Vere's education
in contrast to the lowly–born Shakespeare. De Vere was supposedly ... Show more content on

They proposed many other claimants to the Shakespearean works but the most popular was Edward
de Vere. I can understand why many of people's opinions are this way because there is just so much
evidence that Oxford could have authored them, but there is still just as much evidence that
Shakespeare did write them. From personal knowledge, we all know that we don't have many
documentations nor knowledge of Shakespeare's life. But after analyzing and putting pieces together
of the actual minimal bits of information we DO have, in the end, they all point towards
Shakespeare and Shakespeare only. All the websites I looked at contained many convincing and
reasonable points from both sides of the argument but the following evidence is what proved to me,
that Shakspeare indeed, did write Shakespeare. I learned that Shakespeare went to an excellent
grammar school to learn Latin, in which is precisely needed for creating the plays and sonnets we
have today. We understand that although there were many ways he wrote his name, still a nobleman
like de Vere or Bacon couldn't have presented their works like that. Also the fact that Shakespeare
was known to do collaborations with other lowly playwrights because it was common in that era,
proves that the wealthy nobles could never have collaborated with average

Answer choice A is incorrect because the Shaker community did not practice marriage at all.
According to the video titled, "Shakers Part 1," when husbands and wives would get inducted into
the Shaker community, they would then be considered "brother and sister in holy families." The
Shakers viewed each member as a brother or sister and not as a romantic partner like the answer
choice says.
Answer B is an erroneous statement because the Shaker community was a celibate community that
prohibited marriage or romantic relation. In the article titled, "One of the Last Shakers Talks About

Mein Kampf Vs. The Word Shaker

  • 1. Mein Kampf Vs. The Word Shaker Literature is inherently human and describes the best and worst of our nature. Law & order versus criminal behaviour. In society we have both, though the former is good and the latter is not. Helping versus hurting ‎ those we know –particularly if they are vulnerable. Jesus said "that which you do unto the least of my brothers, you do unto me." This is as true today and it was over 2000 years ago.‎ The decisions by the Hubermann's to shelter Max (a Jew) from persecution is an example of how individuals, acting according to their moral conscience, can do good. The Third Reich placed the State above the individual. It ranked its citizens giving some of them higher status than others. Ethnicity was the determining factor which left Jews, Gypsies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mein Kampf versus The Word Shaker supports this example in reference to how both books describe the struggles of the author. The former uses words to harm (anti–semitic words) while the latter uses words to help (through reinforcing the best qualities of Man). This is exemplified through the following quotation,"I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. (Zusak 528)" The significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of the helpfulness and harmfulness of words in reference to Liesel stating that she both loves and hates words due to their content, thus showing the theme of the power of words. Furthermore, Nazi book burning suppresses free speech (the surest sign a society has reached the tipping point to evil is when it orders the destruction of knowledge). By way of contrast, Liesel stands up and speaks truth to power by stealing a book from the Nazi's flames. This is displayed through the following quotation, "The book thief had struck for the first time – the beginning of an illustrious career, (Zusak 29)" The significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of harmfulness and helpfulness of words in reference to Liesel's rebel–like character in stealing as a result of the harmful rules put into play thus showing the power of words. Later in the story, Max paints over the hateful pages of Mein Kampf to write a story for Liesel. Here, he substitutes evil words with his own compassionate language. This is evident in the following quotation, "There were the erased pages of Mein Kampf, gagging, suffocating under the paint as they turned. (Zusak 237)" The significance of this quotation is to help develop the theme of the harmfulness and helpfulness of words in reference to the harmful effect Mein Kampf had on Max to drive him to colouring over the pages and creating a new story thus ... • 2. Donovan Jacobs Essay Donovan Jacobs was the son of Theodore and Amitra Jacobs, the best lawyers in all of Cincinnati. Hell, they were the best lawyers in all of Ohio. They lived in the richest neighbourhood, sent their son to the leading private school, Hathaway Brown School, and made sure his grades were fine enough to get him into Harvard Law easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Donovan was a guy every girl wanted. He was tall, he was athletic, he was easy going, fun, and adventurous. He also had a charming laugh and an olive glow to his skin that just did not fade, no matter the season. Except, Donovan was not the boy he showed to his friends and everyone else at school. He had three years worth of depression and substance abuse on his shoulders, with the scars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And when Donovan caught Michaelis staring as tossed him a lazy smile, Michaelis would try to hide the blush creeping into his face and stare back down at his homework. He would silently chastise himself for looking too long stare at his books until his brain was re–focused on AP Biology or Calculus. Michaelis had known he was gay for a long time. He had even suspected Donovan of being gay but was too scared to ask. He knew he had feelings for Donovan but pushed them down in case his best mate was heterosexual and wanted nothing to do with him that was not platonic. But when Donovan dragged Michaelis into the boys' bathroom in the middle of a Chemistry exam during the tenth grade and omitted to him that he was gay, hope blossomed in the centre of Michaelis' heart. Michaelis' heart thumped in his chest on the walk back to his exam, and he could barely focus. When Donovan came out to his parents, he did not get the reaction he expected. Yes, he assumed they would be upset, maybe even slightly disappointed at first, but eventually understand and continue to love him. So when his mother stood from where she was sitting, drew her hand back, and struck Donovan across the face, he did not know what to do. Tears welled in his eyes and utter silence settled in the room. Donovan had never been a child to ask for much, for his parents gave him everything he needed when he deserved it. And he always deserved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Are The Pros And Cons Of George Pullman's Capitalist Utopia Almost every culture has strived to achieve a Utopian society, however, it has proven very tough to achieve. A Utopian society is a community possessing high desirable or near perfect qualities. Several such societies had been to presented to us in class and include, Brook Farm, founded by George and Sophia Ripley, a society which stressed education. Fruitlands, founded by Bronson Alcott, a society which practiced not harming any animals in any way and wasting no materials. The Shakers, founded by Mother Ann Lee, a society focused on equality among all and having a good community. Finally, Pullman's Capitalist Utopia, founded by George Pullman, where the working class would be at the top. Considering the pros and cons of all four communities, the Shakers are most desirable because they had longevity, lasting for 200 years and although their numbers are few they still exist today, they had a strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people question, "How could the Shakers last so long if they were not able to have intercourse?" The Shakers adopted children and young people into their community and made them part of their family. This meant that people had the desire to join the community or else the community would not continue to grow. Communities that last for a long time usually have a solid belief system that people find desirable. The Shakers philosophy was ahead of their time. Long before slavery was outlawed or women had the right to vote in America, the Shakers believed that all people were equal. Many of the people living in America during the 1700 and 1800's left their homelands in order to avoid religious persecution and to have a better life and these such people would have found the Shaker society desirable. Since their community was growing and had the basic necessities in order to survive, the Shakers had more time to focus on other things such as their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ann Lee Research Paper Ann Lee was born on February 29, 1736. There is not much account on her childhood, therefore, it is hard to depict if her childhood had any influence on her later, more known life. She exhibited religion and living in Manchester, England accounted for the moral decay of it. She sought spiritual refuge and ended up finding the Shaking Quakers, a religious society. This group would express their sins, dance, sing, violently shake, and shout. The Shakers were disruptive to peace, and Ann herself was jailed. During imprisonment, she had a lot of visions and spiritual contributions and "by a special manifestation of divine light the present testimony of salvation and eternal life was fully revealed to her," she became the leader or "mother" of the ... • 7. Shakers In The 18th Century Shakers were a religious sect, founded in the 18th Century in England, having branched off from a Quaker community. They were known as the "Shaking Quakers" due to their ecstatic behaviour during worship services. Since the late Eighteenth Century, Shakers exerted an influence disproportionate to the size of their communities. Their approach helped shape everything in terms of craftsmanship and ingenuity. The innovative spirit they brought to simply, Godly living is indeed the most timeless aspect of their legacy. Shaker style of architecture, furniture as well as decorative arts were effectively characterised by traditional Shaker utility and fine craftsmanship. The element of order and the absence of clutter reflected on the lack of ornamentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The design solutions for individual Shaker buildings were often formulated in response to the demands of communal living. Buildings that were used by both men and women, such as meetinghouses and dwellings, incorporated separate entrances and stairways as their beliefs were imposed the separation of the sexes. The interior space of Shaker meetinghouses had particular requirements such as to include large, uninterrupted floor space in order to allow for their religious dances as well as requiring a huge truss to support the roof. Dwellings included communal rooms on the ground floor but thoroughly segregated bedrooms on the floors above. These large dwellings also necessitated the introduction of interior windows to bring in the natural light into dark interior rooms to complement each other. • 8. Shell Shaker Summary LeAnne Howe's novel Shell Shaker describes the family history and drama of a Choctaw family. In chapter 6, Auda Billy is being questioned about the murder of chief Redford McAlester. During Auda's confession, she exposes the corruption of Native American gambling, she states "As you know, because we're a sovereign nation, there's no external oversight of the casino operations. Only three people– Red, Vico D'Amato and Carl Tonica– were privy to the real set of books, not the phony ones they submit to the BIA"(Howe 90). • 9. Utopian Societies Impact Utopian communities have had an incredible impact on both American society and various recognized religious sects throughout the United States as a whole. Many people saw, and still see, democratic government as unfair, leaving the poor behind to become poorer while the rich continued to get richer; they felt a change in work and fairness was officially in order. Utopian societies were created with commendable intentions, and their idea of the perfect cooperative society is an attractive conference, but they were all considered experiments because they all declined swiftly and hopelessly. The western concept of utopias stem in the age–old world, where fables of a carnal arcadia lost to history, linked to the human ambition to build an ideal community, abetted in forming the utopian notion ("Utopias in America"). Ideal communities have varied considerably in philosophy and design, and maybe not all have been persistently utopian in the draconian understanding of hoping to achieve a system for a "perfect" community. Utopian "communitarianism" seems to have deeper roots set in the United States than in Western Europe, more specifically in actually putting philosophy into practice. This composite mental image may appear misplaced in a nation with an intense admiration towards individuality, but the perseverance amongst these societies brings to light quite a bit about the incredibly diverse American culture, notably how the sexes have thought of cultural advancement and how ... • 10. Challenges Faced In Richard Harland's World Shaker When you are faced with a challenge you should always confront the situation, show courage, persistence and use integrity. Col, the main character in the Richard Harland novel 'World Shaker' is faced with many challenges throughout the story. However, he does not respond to any of his challenges in a positive manner. Throughout the novel Col proves that he deals with his situations negatively. Though he grows in a sense of character, he's decisions are still very poor when he isn't reliant on Riff. The first significant challenge Col faces is when he discovers a filthy in his bedroom. His reaction to this problem was not well handled, as he locked the girl into his cupboard and covered his head with a pillow to hide from his thoughts. Chapter 2, page 9 'Although a million thoughts chased around his head, his mind refused to work on solutions. It was all too difficult.' The quote states that Col doesn't know how to handle the situation and thinks that by locking Riff in a closet will help remove his problems. This is a negative way to deal with a situation, when Col could have stopped to think about other ways to confront his problem. Another solution to the problem could've been calling out for the guards to come take her away. Col's response was pursued negatively as he hid from his problems instead of confronting them. ... The best example of this is how we use electricity in our everyday lives, from the lights that we us to light up the streets to the computers and televisions that we use as entertainment and work in our everyday lives. Science makes our lives way quicker. A journey that would take weeks or months now takes days or even hours, thanks to airplanes and our personal automobiles. Science affects our lives from day to night, from the time we wake up to the time we sleep, all day long science is helping us. Some berries that look dangerous, like raspberries, grow on thorns but are safe to eat, but other berries that don't look harmful, such as the "American bittersweet," are poisonous and may indeed harm the body. When we find a plant or berry that is actually edible we use agriculture to protect and multiply that species of plant. Agriculture brought our curiosity our and made us ask ourselves questions. How does the fertility of the soil affect the plants growth? Can we cross–breed these plants to get desirable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Utopian Societies: Brook Farm In the years leading up to the Civil War, the woman's sphere was expanding through social movements to remake and reform mainstream American society as a whole. No group of women, however, expanded to new territory as much as certain utopian societies allowed them to. These settlements sprang up in the 1830s and 1840s and called for radical changes in women's sexual and reproductive lives. These societies were not based on the nuclear family and posed challenges to conventional notions of marriage. These utopian societies were the Shakers, the Oneida community, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, more commonly known as the Mormons. These three groups were all inspired by radical Christian notions of "human perfectibility", but other experiments existed that based their lifestyles off of more secular ideas. The most famous of these secular experiments was Brook Farm, founded in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1841. The Shakers represented one end of the spectrum for these utopian societies. Shakes prohibited all sexual relations, even within marriage. Men and women lived and worshipped separately, but came together to dance and sing their religious joys. They could not reproduce biologically, so the Shakers took in orphans, apprentices, individuals fleeing from unhappy families and destitute widows. The Shaker community appealed strongly to women due to their celibate way of life and alternative family structure. Their founder and chief saint was a woman called ... After years of learning how to read, a Jewish man named Max Vandenburg hides in the basement of the Hubermanns house to not get caught by the Nazi Party. Max and Liesel discover that they have the same passion for words and reading. Max starts to write books for Liesel called "The Standover Man" and "The Word Shaker", that is about Max's and the Jewish struggles while incorporating the friendship created with Liesel. In particular, "The Word Shaker" was the story of Führer taking over the world with words that spread like wildfire and grew into trees to create a forest. While one girl had to power to overpower the Nazi trees grown by the use of her words, that could not be cut down until the power of friendship from an axeman torn down some of the shorter Nazi trees. The underlying message of "The Word Shaker" written by Max Vandenburg is that the power of words used for good can create friendship and will overpower the words used in an appalling way. Words are a use of power, that can be used towards good and bad. In the beginning of "The Word Shaker", Führer tries to find a way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Negativity In The Word Shaker "All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of nonforgiveness are caused by too much past and not enough presence." – Eckhart Tolle To me, this quote accurately identifies the cause of much of the negativity in one's everyday life; I wouldn't say all negativity can be explained by this quote, but a vast majority of it can be. Fear, which can manifest itself in various forms, is caused by focusing too much on what is yet to come; essentially, one fixates on things or events that cannot be anticipated or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example of negativity occurred over the course of the dress rehearsals and performances of "Borne Back," the Brenau University Dance Department's Senior Thesis and Faculty Concert. I designed and constructed the costumes for two pieces in the show, but I experienced an issue with one of the dancers in "The Word Shaker." The costumes for this piece involved arm bands, which were strips of mesh that were tied and wrapped around the dancers' arms. I asked the dancers to completely untie the strips when they are removed after the piece, rather than simply slipping them off with the knots intact; leaving the strips tied made it difficult and time–consuming to put them on again for the next run, as the knots had to be untied before they could be wrapped around the dancers' arms. Even when asked multiple times, one dancer refused to untie the knots. Therefore, I spent 3–4 of the rehearsals/performances trying to hurriedly untie the strips, which took up unnecessary time when the dancers only had one dance to get ready for "The Word Shaker." I do think this somewhat fits Tolle's explanation of negativity; it could be argued that the negativity was caused because I was dwelling on this dancer's past inability to follow simple instructions. However, I do not think the negativity was my doing because a college level dancer should be able to be responsible and respectful; my annoyance was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even fans of aggressive looking hood scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner. However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this option will continue to be a popular one. Here we'll discuss some of the All–American muscle cars that made this option available. Many of these early followers of the Shaker Way saw Ann Lee as being Christ embodied as a woman. Therefore the Shakers could not deny women equality with men. A woman founded Shakerism and women were able to maintain equal standing with men as religious leaders.3 The Shaker Way generally called for a fundamental transformation from its members, asking them to "turn from the narrowness of individual self to the Union of all of us together in the One Christ in whom there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female (Gal. 3:28)".4 Specifically, Shakers were supposed to grow by learning to recognize gifts and relating them to each other. America 's Communal Utopias By Ann Lee After reading through many articles about many different religious groups in "America's Communal Utopias", I have observed many different communities grow using both similar and different ways to find their own success. Two societies in particular, that struck me in their techniques to survive were, the Shakers and the Mormons. Both of these religious groups today are still successful. Both groups used methods of economics, gender roles, and their relationship to the outside world to find their own success in the religious community. The shakers arose in the 17th century making them one of the earliest religious groups or sects today. They came to America with only nine members and then largely grew to about 4,000 by 1850. Over the last 200 years since they originated, about 20,000 Americans have spent a portion of their lives living as part of this religion. Ann Lee was the founder of the Shakers from 1736–1784. Many of her believers were found to be revolutionaries but not in the normal way we would have expected. The shakers are a society of people who believe in the second appearing of Christ, which is a sect of the Christian religion. They went about life in a unique way compared to any other religious group. They explored and demonstrated very erratic behaviors to accomplish their life and religious goals. The Shakers Community was created by Ann Lee later known as Mother Lee, she led the community until her death and later it was led by equal male and female members. This community strived to live as equals even as some of its members did not agree that gender should be viewed as equal. Even though women in society are viewed as not having any authority, women within the Shaker Community were able to hold authority because Ann Lee created this society so that men and woman are viewed equally and on the same level. Mother Ann Lee created the Shakers with belief that she was sent from God to be the leader. She created rules and laws allowing women to have more rights than the outside societies. She made it as though the male and female were equally as important to society. The doctrine of the group was basically Christian, but it contained a number of original features. It stressed the dual male–female nature of the Godhead and proclaimed the return of the Christ Spirit, once embodied in Jesus, in the person of Ann Lee. Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner 440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Thus, bring to light the gender boundaries by delving into the roles of masculinity and femininity with us the actors portraying few roles, as well as challenge the perception that females should play female characters and males should play male characters. Thus, the experience we wanted to create for the audience was to make people relate to these stereotypes and raise questions about the construction of gender. We tried to achieve this by showing scenes from everyday life that everyone can relate to, for instance hairdresser saloon, barbershop, pubs and night life. The Shakers were founded by a woman named Ann Lee in England (Holloway). Lee, at a young age, was uncomfortable with sexuality and relations with the opposite sex (Hogan). Despite her dislike of sexual relationships, Lee's father forced her to marry and gave birth to four children. Unfortunately, all four children died at infancy, which traumatized ... This principle emphasized their celibacy because of their belief that one's sexuality is owed to God. However, it is important to note that although men and women were equal, they lived in different spheres and had different responsibilities. However, each of the gender roles were no more important than the other. Another principle was "a united interest in all things is their general order," which stated that they must do all things for the betterment of their community. They also believed in "the suitable education of children, in scriptural and other useful knowledge and science," which further exemplified their open–minded philosophy towards science and led to their success economically. Lastly, they believed in the "Honesty and integrity in all their words and dealings; according to the precept of the Saviour," which made them value hard work. • 37. James Bond: The Modern Day Shaker James Bond, the fictional Secret Service Agent and cultivated martini drinker, fastidiously insisted that his martinis be "shaken, not stirred"; however his preference of shakers was never specified. Unbeknownst to the average cocktail drinker, there are 3 varieties of shakers to assist bartenders in their craft: the Boston shaker, the Parisian shaker, and the cobbler shaker. Although each shaker was created in different parts of the world, each one has the same objective – to produce the perfect beverage. • 38. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Spear-Shaker By Allan Hall The article was written by Allan Hall, who reviewed the book and gives us an exceptional overview of the author's own arguments from each chapter. Hall first addresses that Kurt Kreiler, the author of the book, was an established Shakespeare scholar who gives mountains of evidence in his book to prove that we have been revering the wrong man for many centuries. Instead, Kreiler claims that Edward de Vere actually wrote them, by stating that some of de Vere's well–known works have a strong "Shakespearean style" and also makes clear that there is some sort of connection between Shakespeare and Earl's nickname– "Spear–shaker." Kreiler goes on to talk about de Vere's education in contrast to the lowly–born Shakespeare. De Vere was supposedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They proposed many other claimants to the Shakespearean works but the most popular was Edward de Vere. I can understand why many of people's opinions are this way because there is just so much evidence that Oxford could have authored them, but there is still just as much evidence that Shakespeare did write them. From personal knowledge, we all know that we don't have many documentations nor knowledge of Shakespeare's life. But after analyzing and putting pieces together of the actual minimal bits of information we DO have, in the end, they all point towards Shakespeare and Shakespeare only. All the websites I looked at contained many convincing and reasonable points from both sides of the argument but the following evidence is what proved to me, that Shakspeare indeed, did write Shakespeare. I learned that Shakespeare went to an excellent grammar school to learn Latin, in which is precisely needed for creating the plays and sonnets we have today. We understand that although there were many ways he wrote his name, still a nobleman like de Vere or Bacon couldn't have presented their works like that. Also the fact that Shakespeare was known to do collaborations with other lowly playwrights because it was common in that era, proves that the wealthy nobles could never have collaborated with average ... The Shakers viewed each member as a brother or sister and not as a romantic partner like the answer choice says. Answer B is an erroneous statement because the Shaker community was a celibate community that prohibited marriage or romantic relation.
