2. Front Cover Analysis
The masthead of a
magazine is a vital
convention as it is
one of the first
things the audience
recognizes. My
masthead head
communicates with
the target market as
it is a direct link
between the
purpose and the
audience. The two
colors used are
bright and vibrant
which represent the
youthful audience.
The capital letters
used highlight the
importance and
also catches the
readers attention.
The font is artistic
and resembles
handwriting.
The cover lines gives a
slight clue of what is
included within the
magazine. The font is
in bold and colored
red, which also links to
the masthead.
All cover lines are
aligned to the left or
right and not being
centered to avoid a
huge overlapping of
the image.
3. The main image is also
very important on a
magazine as the
audiences attention is
drawn directly to it. My
main image is a mid shot
of male student, taken
from eye level. Natural
key lighting is used in the
image.
The background of the
front cover is full of
various art sketches
which relate to the
school. This background
has a direct link with the
school as it is an arts
college. Included in the
background are objects
such as; monitors,
stereo, books, keyboards
and the school logo.
Also included is the
word “Art College” in
the background.
The facial expression
highlights the joy of the
student. Likewise the
stance taken up by the
male student. In image
of an identification card
strap is included which
signifies the model is a
student. Natural key
lighting is used in the
image.
4. Contents Page Analysis
The language I used
on my contents page
was simple and
direct. I used the
terminology that will
be relevant to my
target market and
the type of magazine
I am publishing.
The reason behind
the choice of my
background colour is
it reflects a calm and
mellow mood.
The font I used for
my masthead for my
contents page is the
same as my front
page. The font I used
resembles
handwriting which
has a direct link with
my target market.
The font I also used
for the word
‘contents’ is very
bold which shows the
importance of it.
5. Included in the
image are prime
examples of what a
Laswap sixth former
will look like. We
are unable to see
there facial
expressions.
The mode of
address is the way
the language speaks
to us. The language
is informal as this
sort of language will
be appropriate to
my target market.
