Header- “Billboard” this is the title
of the magazine. Its big and bold so
it stands out and can be easily
recognised by customers. It is the
biggest and boldest piece of text on
the page, which catches the readers
eye immediately. This stays the same
on every article, but often changes
colour.
Image- the image is of Chance the Rapper. He is
looking right at the audience allowing them to
create a relationship. (Uses and gratification
theory). The image is a medium close-up. His
clothes are simple and what some people might
wear on an everyday basis. This might make the
magazine more approachable because the he
seems more ordinary.
Image- the image is of Lorde, a
musician, she is making direct mode
of address which means that the
reader can make a relationship with
the artist (uses and gratifications
theory) The image is a mid shot so
you can see her relaxed body
language. She is showing a lot of skin
however and this sexualises her (male
gaze)
Colour Scheme- the colour scheme changes with each issue,
this can then change in the masthead as well. The persons
clothing often depends on the colour scheme. Having a colour
scheme makes the magazine look professional and is also more
aesthetically pleasing

6. Masthead- “Indie” this is the title of the
magazine, it’s the biggest and boldest
writing on the front cover so it stands out,
the fact that it is all block white also
makes it stand out against the bright
purple background. The title is clearly
recognisable by the reader and will draw
there attention quickly.
Barcode- the barcode is placed in
the bottom left hand corner, it
doesn’t take up to much room
and is relatively small.
Text- the text is big and bold, the fact that it
is blue makes it stand out against the colour
scheme. The two question marks make the
customer question what it could mean and
therefore makes the customer want to buy it
even more. This is a hermeneutic code,
which entices the reader.
Colour scheme- the scheme is
pale, neutral grey colours,
which is represented both with
the text and the image. His skin
and hair is also very pale.
Text- it relates to the picture because the
man has cuts and blood on his face. The
text then says “hit me baby one more
time” and has blood splatters behind it.
The writing is also red which has
connotations of blood. The text written is
a famous line from the song Britney spears,
this could relate to the magazine articles
inside, the customer may question what it
means.
Masthead- The lettering is bold, they use this title on
every issue, it stands out against the background and
although this issue uses lighter colours it still grabs the
readers attention.
Model- the woman is using direct
mode of address which means
they can make a connection with
the audience. (Uses and
gratification theory). The
makeup goes with the colourful
background and ties in the whole
magazines as a one. The mickey
mouse mask is unrelated but
makes the front cover unique
and fun.
Model- his facial expressions looks as if is in pain
which may create question for the reader, the
models makeup and expression relates to the
writing “hit me baby one more time” He is
making direct eye contact which allows a
connection (Uses and gratification theory). His
hair and skin tone is very pale matching the
colour scheme of the front cover.
Mise-en-scene- he is wearing a shirt which makes
him seem quite professional but then this is
contradicted by the cut and blood on his face
because it looks like he has been in a fight or
something similar. The cuts and blood creates
questions for the reader.

Shows what is going to be in the magazine,
simple and clear to readers.

however her clothing is quite fancy. Her
clothing being black also means that it sticks

everyone's eyes can clearly be drawn to it
