How did you use media technologies
in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
Equipment
• Canon
• Having this camera meant that we were able to
film all of our film in HD quality, which gave it a
very crisp and clear look. It also meant that we
have access to it whenever we needed as it
belongs to my co director Laura Cusick.
• If we didn’t have this camera then we would have
had to use a school camera, and this would mean
that the quality wouldn’t be as good which would
effect the overall look of our film.
Equipment
• Tripod
• The tripod helped us a lot when filming shots that we
needed to keep the camera still for example long shots
of our main antagonist running in the woods. We didn’t
use the tripod when doing our POV shots as we wanted
these to be shaky and therefore the bet way to portray
this was handheld filming.
• If we didn’t have the tripod we would of had to either
try and find a position for the camera to balance on
which wouldn’t have been safe, try to hold the camera
as still as possible which wouldn’t of looked very
professional as it would still slightly shake, or just
purely use POV and hand held shots like in the film
‘Blair Witch Project’
Programmes
• Adobe Premier Pro
• We used Premier Pro to edit all of our film together. Premier Pro was the best programme to use as it allowed us to do
everything that we wanted when making our film. We could edit different parts separately and then put them together
when we were happy with them. If we didn’t have access to premier pro then we would have had to use a different piece
of software for example Windows Movie Maker, this would mean that we wouldn’t have been able to use the techniques
that we did.
• Black and White – this was one of the techniques that we used, to do this you have to go on ‘video effects – colour
correction – tint’ and then drag the tint effect over the clip that we wanted to turn black and white.
• Cropping – When an original clip that we had filmed lasted too long, or only part of it turned out how we wanted we
would crop the clip so that we could use only the section that we wanted.
• Backwards – we reversed the speed on the first half of our film up to the church scene (not including the coloured scenes)
to do this on each clip we had to reverse the speed this meant that the clip would play backwards. Sometimes after we
had reversed the speed we felt that the clip lasted too long so then we sped up the clip.

Programmes
• Adobe Photoshop
• I used Photoshop to create my film poster. I felt that using Photoshop was the best
programme to create the poster. This was because everything that I needed to do
for example blending photographs and adding text and filters I was able to do on
there. If I didn’t have access to Photoshop I would have had to of used a different
programme which wouldn’t have been as good for example Paint, or an internet
editing website.
• I originally had 2 separate photos which I blended together with the gradient tool.
• I then added a filter over the photo, this was to give an old fashioned feel and also
so that it was all different tones of one colour.
• I then added the text to the top and the bottom of the Poster.
Programmes
• Adobe Photoshop
• I used Photoshop to create my double page spread. The other
option was using In Design, however I felt like I could use
Photoshop better to achieve the look that I wanted.
• First I started with an A3 landscape blank page which I then started
to fill with images.
• I decided to have one main image which I imported in, it was a
photograph taken from one of our filming days. I then added 2
callout text boxes which the colour I selected from the colour picker
tool from the main image. I then added other images to the page
which I cropped, repositioned and resized on Photoshop. I then
added titles which I selected from the different fonts on Photoshop,
and then repositioned them onto the page. Then final I added the
articles and other text onto the page, the main article I copy and
pasted from Microsoft word.

Research
• We used Google to research different thriller films, thriller posters, magazine double page spreads,
music ideas etc. This was so that we could collect ideas to make our film.
• We used Youtube to get the music for our film and then used a Youtube converter site so that we
could download the music and use it on Premier Pro. If we didn’t have access to Youtube to get
music we would of either had to use songs that we have at home or record our own music which
wouldn’t have been as effective.
• We used Google Maps to collect location pictures so that we could decide where we wanted to
film, we selected different location on here and then chose our favourite one that was also close
enough to travel to easily. If we didn’t have Google maps we would of had to only use places that
we know and would have had to of been very local which means that we wouldn’t have had much
of a choice.
Evaluation
• For the evaluation stages I have used premier pro to answer question 3. Me and Laura filmed
ourselves talking about the audience feedback and then edited it on Premier Pro.
• I used Prezi to answer question 1. I used this so that I could go into detail and use pictures and
screen shots to go along side text in an interesting presentation
• I have used slide share to answer question 2 as it allows me to add pictures and text to go with it so
that I can use example from my ancillary texts to answer the question appropriately.

Media Evaluation Question 4

  • 1. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
  • 2. Equipment • Canon • Having this camera meant that we were able to film all of our film in HD quality, which gave it a very crisp and clear look. It also meant that we have access to it whenever we needed as it belongs to my co director Laura Cusick. • If we didn’t have this camera then we would have had to use a school camera, and this would mean that the quality wouldn’t be as good which would effect the overall look of our film.
  • 3. Equipment • Tripod • The tripod helped us a lot when filming shots that we needed to keep the camera still for example long shots of our main antagonist running in the woods. We didn’t use the tripod when doing our POV shots as we wanted these to be shaky and therefore the bet way to portray this was handheld filming. • If we didn’t have the tripod we would of had to either try and find a position for the camera to balance on which wouldn’t have been safe, try to hold the camera as still as possible which wouldn’t of looked very professional as it would still slightly shake, or just purely use POV and hand held shots like in the film ‘Blair Witch Project’
  • 4. Programmes • Adobe Premier Pro • We used Premier Pro to edit all of our film together. Premier Pro was the best programme to use as it allowed us to do everything that we wanted when making our film. We could edit different parts separately and then put them together when we were happy with them. If we didn’t have access to premier pro then we would have had to use a different piece of software for example Windows Movie Maker, this would mean that we wouldn’t have been able to use the techniques that we did. • Black and White – this was one of the techniques that we used, to do this you have to go on ‘video effects – colour correction – tint’ and then drag the tint effect over the clip that we wanted to turn black and white. • Cropping – When an original clip that we had filmed lasted too long, or only part of it turned out how we wanted we would crop the clip so that we could use only the section that we wanted. • Backwards – we reversed the speed on the first half of our film up to the church scene (not including the coloured scenes) to do this on each clip we had to reverse the speed this meant that the clip would play backwards. Sometimes after we had reversed the speed we felt that the clip lasted too long so then we sped up the clip. B&W CROPPING BACKWARDS
  • 5. Programmes • Adobe Photoshop • I used Photoshop to create my film poster. I felt that using Photoshop was the best programme to create the poster. This was because everything that I needed to do for example blending photographs and adding text and filters I was able to do on there. If I didn’t have access to Photoshop I would have had to of used a different programme which wouldn’t have been as good for example Paint, or an internet editing website. • I originally had 2 separate photos which I blended together with the gradient tool. • I then added a filter over the photo, this was to give an old fashioned feel and also so that it was all different tones of one colour. • I then added the text to the top and the bottom of the Poster.
  • 6. Programmes • Adobe Photoshop • I used Photoshop to create my double page spread. The other option was using In Design, however I felt like I could use Photoshop better to achieve the look that I wanted. • First I started with an A3 landscape blank page which I then started to fill with images. • I decided to have one main image which I imported in, it was a photograph taken from one of our filming days. I then added 2 callout text boxes which the colour I selected from the colour picker tool from the main image. I then added other images to the page which I cropped, repositioned and resized on Photoshop. I then added titles which I selected from the different fonts on Photoshop, and then repositioned them onto the page. Then final I added the articles and other text onto the page, the main article I copy and pasted from Microsoft word. 1 2 3 4
  • 7. Research • We used Google to research different thriller films, thriller posters, magazine double page spreads, music ideas etc. This was so that we could collect ideas to make our film. • We used Youtube to get the music for our film and then used a Youtube converter site so that we could download the music and use it on Premier Pro. If we didn’t have access to Youtube to get music we would of either had to use songs that we have at home or record our own music which wouldn’t have been as effective. • We used Google Maps to collect location pictures so that we could decide where we wanted to film, we selected different location on here and then chose our favourite one that was also close enough to travel to easily. If we didn’t have Google maps we would of had to only use places that we know and would have had to of been very local which means that we wouldn’t have had much of a choice.
  • 8. Evaluation • For the evaluation stages I have used premier pro to answer question 3. Me and Laura filmed ourselves talking about the audience feedback and then edited it on Premier Pro. • I used Prezi to answer question 1. I used this so that I could go into detail and use pictures and screen shots to go along side text in an interesting presentation • I have used slide share to answer question 2 as it allows me to add pictures and text to go with it so that I can use example from my ancillary texts to answer the question appropriately.
