MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY
(Enhancing Education through Effective Communication)

 Media – from the Latin term “Medium”
meaning any forms of communication.
 Information – refers to the specific data
acquired for a specific purpose.
 Literacy – is the ability of understanding a
particular concepts.
 Literacy is important in order to explore
more ideas, discovering more
information and analyze things on our
very unique way.
 By means of writing.
 By means of symbols.
 By means of oral communication.
 By means of gestures.
“Communications becomes
effective once the message
conveyed is understandable.”
 Is the ability to access, analyze,
evaluate and create media.
 Understanding the complex messages
from different media platforms.
Students will be able to:
 Analyze and evaluate logical connection
between different ideas.
 Effectively apply critical thinking skills to a
wide range of issues.
 Understand the significant role of media in
our society and how it affects its users.
Students will be able to:
 Become more competent in processing
and assessing the forms of media one
uses.
 Become well informed using different forms
of mass media simultaneously.
 Is the skill that allows a person to be
familiar with when information is
needed and how s/he will be able to
access, locate, evaluate and use it
effectively.
Students will be able to:
Distinguish which sources of information are relevant.
 Organize and classify the different forms of media
which can secure relevant and substantial information.
 Develop effective research skills essential in enriching
their knowledge and enhancing their comprehension.
 Gather essential information and utilize it to expand
his/her knowledge.
 Is the ability to acquire relevant information and use
modern-day tools to get, manage, apply, evaluate,
create and communicate information.
 Comes from the 2 Greek Terms (Techne) means art
and skills and (Tekhnologia) means systematic
treatment. Technology is the systematic application of
one’s art or skills for a practical purpose.
Students will be able to:
 Work and access information easily.
 Read information in advance for the benefit of his/her
intellectual aspect.
 Discover breakthroughs and trends.
 Be more knowledgeable in many aspects, through the
use of social media sites.
 It is because of one reason, due to technological
advancement during early 90’s (introduction of cellular
phones, hand carry computers, and etc.) where
messages can easily send regardless of distance in
just a matter of seconds.
 Due to that facts of advancement lifestyle and way of
life of many people (esp. young people) have
drastically changed.
Everyone should know:
 How to use different media platforms.
 How to look for a relevant information
 How an individual develop technology to communicate
and send information through media platforms.
