Chinese democracy: A Hong Kong case study Richard Lau
Hong Kong is semi-democratic, containing some democratic features like freedom of speech but lacking universal suffrage. The Umbrella Revolution protests in 2014 were sparked by China's plans to limit electoral reforms in Hong Kong. While the protests were eventually cleared, they damaged trust in the government and police, and highlighted tensions between Hong Kong and mainland China over democratic ideals and national identity.
The Taiwan issue is the most sensitive in Sino-US relations. Three joint communiques between 1972-1982 established the One-China policy and framework for relations. The US Congress passed the Taiwan Relations Act in 1979 to continue commercial ties with Taiwan and defend it if China uses force. However, Taiwan's democratization and identity have fueled debate over whether the One-China policy still applies. Maintaining cross-strait peace and stability amid changing dynamics is challenging both China and the US.

Here are a few key points about the historical accuracy of the film Invictus:
- The film is based on the true story of Nelson Mandela's presidency in post-apartheid South Africa in the 1990s. Mandela became president in 1994 after being released from prison.
- The film accurately depicts Mandela's use of the 1995 Rugby World Cup hosted in South Africa as an opportunity to unite the newly racially integrated country. Rugby had traditionally been dominated by white Afrikaners, so Mandela saw the national team as a symbol of a unified, multi-racial South Africa.
- Mandela did meet with Francois Pienaar, the captain of the Springboks rugby team,

Summary Hong Kongs protests started in June against proposals t.docxdeanmtaylor1545
Summary
Hong Kong's protests started in June against proposals to allow extradition to mainland China. Critics feared this could undermine the city's judicial independence and endanger dissidents. A former British colony, Hong Kong has some autonomy and more rights than the mainland under a "one country, two systems" deal. City leader Carrie Lam agreed to suspend the bill, but demonstrations continued and developed to include demands for full democracy and an inquiry into police actions. The bill was finally withdrawn in September. Clashes between police and activists have been becoming increasingly violent, with police using tear gas and activists storming parliament.
Tie to class
There are several different international reactions to the Hong Kong protest. In the United States, president Donald Trump condemned the developing violence of the protests in calling the events 'riots'. He also said the US will not involve itself. In response, a bipartisan group of senators issued a statement to Trump, condemning Beijing's efforts to undermine Hong Kong's autonomy. In the letter, they declared Hong Kong's governance is not China's internal affair and that if the U.S fails to respond to Beijing's threats it would only encourage Chinese leaders to act with impunity. Trump administration officials said the day after that the president had no intention to signal a policy change or an endorsement of China's position.
North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong ho said that, North Korea fully supports the stand and measures of China to defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the country and safeguard the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, and concerns about foreign forces interference in Hong Kong issue.
The European External Action Service said rights "need to be respected" in Hong Kong. Over the past months, the people of Hong Kong have exercised their fundamental right to assemble and express themselves freely and peacefully. These rights need to be respected.
We can see how they react differently by the political bias they have in their country. Especially, North Korea is a country based on socialism. And that is why they entirely support China.
Personal Takeaway
My personally support the Hong Kong protest. Not only because I have Hongkongese friends, but also because I am Korean. This protest is basically occured by the political problem. Back in the days, Korea also have suffered from losing freedom. We also had a big pre-democracy movement in the 1980s. The government totally repressed the protestors even physical attack just like the Hong kong police nowadays. The protestors didn't surrender at all and finally we got the freedom from the government. I hope Hong Kong protestors could gain the things they want without any harm.

The document summarizes two social movements:
1) Los Indignados (15M) movement in Spain, which protested political and economic issues beginning in 2011 through non-partisan demonstrations and occupation of public squares. It aimed to promote more participatory democracy and representation.
2) Occupy Wall Street, which began occupying Zuccotti Park near Wall Street in 2011 to protest corporate influence over politics and growing income inequality. It used non-hierarchical organization and consensus-based decision making.
Both movements used peaceful protests and civil disobedience to raise awareness of economic and political issues and influence public policy debates. They highlighted the ability of citizen movements to enact positive social change through civic participation and organization.

Abstract: This study examined China’s foreign policy in Africa and Nigeria development. The study was anchored on the dependency theory as propounded by Dos Santos in 1970. The study adopted ex-post research design while
data was gotten from a secondary source such as textbooks, journal articles, newspapers, magazines and internet
and the data generated was analyzed through content analysis. The findings of the study showed that China's
foreign policy interests in Africa is centered on political, economic and security interest and China’s foreign policy
has not resulted in development in Nigeria, as Chinese firms in Nigeria employ more than 84 percent of local
labour, despite the fact that few of these employees are technical or managerial staffs. Based on the findings the
study recommended among others; that Africa should take advantage of China’s economic, political and
ideological interest in Africa as China should be encouraged to strengthen and improve its co-operation with
Africa in other areas such as engineering and technology and the government of Nigeria should put down strong
laws as well as implement the laws, that will lead to Chinese firms putting more Nigerians into managerial and

Hong Kong, the 3rd largest world’s financial center, has exploded into protest. The current prodemocracy protests in Hong Kong came in response to an August decision by the Beijing government to limit voters’ choices in future elections for the autonomous territory’s chief executive. Hong Kong students have been using umbrellas to protect themselves from police tear gas. The umbrellas became a symbol of the movement and gave it its nickname, the Umbrella Revolution.
Why the umbrellas?
Who are the main players?
And what do Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protesters want?
Let’s find out what’s behind the Hong Kong’s Umbrella Revolution.
C.P John, politician from Kerala, India, talks about how the process of political change is affected in the digital age and by the advent of websites like wikileaks, twitter, facebook etc
This document provides background information on the Umbrella Movement that occurred in Hong Kong in 2014. It describes the movement as a massive public demonstration and civil disobedience movement that lasted 79 days and involved the occupation of major financial districts. The core goal of the movement was to achieve genuine universal suffrage and democracy in Hong Kong's elections. However, the people of Hong Kong viewed China's political framework for the 2017 chief executive election as establishing a "fake universal suffrage" that would only allow pro-Beijing candidates to run. This disappointment and desire for true democracy was a major factor that sparked the Umbrella Movement protests.

This 3-part article series examines how Beijing has tightened its control over Hong Kong in recent years through various means. It describes how pro-Beijing groups in Hong Kong have countered pro-democracy protests and how mainland officials now seek to influence Hong Kong media and monitor Catholic clergy. It also discusses how China's Liaison Office in Hong Kong, which was once low-profile, now helps shape key government policies and acts as a "shadow cabinet" that the Hong Kong Chief Executive cannot do without. Critics argue this represents creeping interference in Hong Kong's autonomy, while Beijing maintains it is acting within its rights under the "one country, two systems" policy.

Globalization is a process of increasing integration and interaction between people, companies, and governments around the world. It is driven by international trade and investment and facilitated by information technology. The IMF identified four aspects of globalization: trade and transactions, capital and investment movements, migration, and dissemination of knowledge. While globalization is not new, having occurred through trade routes like the Silk Road, the current era differs in the globalization of individuals through technologies like the Internet. Globalization has both benefits like increased economic growth and access to goods, and drawbacks such as rising inequality and exploitation of labor.

The document discusses auditing procurement cards (P-cards) used by businesses to make purchases. P-cards are like credit cards but contain more purchase controls. The author will audit a sample of P-card transactions from a given period to determine what percentage lacked proper tax documentation. This percentage will then be applied to all purchases in a specific account to project the total taxable amount for the audit period. Stratifying transactions by dollar amount is unnecessary due to the typically small transaction sizes.

History of biopsychology/Physiological PsychologyShailesh Jaiswal
The history of biological psychology began with Avicenna in the 11th century, who recognized connections between physiology and psychology. In the 18th and 19th centuries, biological psychology emerged from philosophical traditions exploring the relationship between the mind and body. William James' 1890 textbook argued that psychology should be grounded in an understanding of biology, helping to establish biological psychology as a legitimate science. Contemporary biological psychology links psychology and biology through comparing behaviors across species and relating biological and psychological variables.
endocrinal glands their location, function and behaviour (part 2)Shailesh Jaiswal
The adrenal gland is located above each kidney and has two parts that secrete different hormones. The adrenal cortex secretes corticosteroids that regulate minerals and sodium/potassium levels in the body, and disturbances can affect the nervous system. The adrenal medulla secretes epinephrine and norepinephrine, which activate the sympathetic nervous system and prolong stress responses. The pancreas, near the stomach, secretes insulin to regulate blood glucose levels and the hormone that controls digestion. The gonads, ovaries and testes, secrete hormones regulated by the pituitary gland that control sexual development and reproductive functions.

The adrenal gland is located above each kidney and has two parts - the adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla. The adrenal cortex secretes corticosteroids like cortisol which regulate minerals and the nervous system, while the adrenal medulla secretes epinephrine and norepinephrine to increase heart rate and metabolism during sympathetic activation. The pancreas secretes insulin to regulate blood glucose levels and help the liver store glucose. The gonads, or testes and ovaries, secrete sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen which control sexual development, behaviors and reproduction through a feedback loop with the pituitary gland.
4.1 endocrinal glands their location, function and behaviour (part 1)Shailesh Jaiswal
This document discusses the endocrine system and its glands. It begins by defining endocrinology and the endocrine system. The endocrine system maintains homeostasis, regulates growth and development, and controls reproduction. Hormones are chemical messengers released from glands into the bloodstream and target specific cells. The major glands discussed are the pituitary gland and thyroid gland. The pituitary gland is called the "master gland" as it regulates other glands by releasing hormones like growth hormone. Disorders of the pituitary can cause dwarfism or gigantism. The thyroid gland regulates metabolism through thyroxine production, and disorders can result in goiter, myxedema, or Graves' disease.
The central nervous system is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. The brain controls bodily functions like awareness, movement, and memory. The spinal cord transmits sensory and motor signals through the spinal canal. The brain is protected by meninges and cerebrospinal fluid. It can be divided into the hindbrain, midbrain, and forebrain. The forebrain contains structures that regulate homeostasis, memory, emotion, and higher cognitive functions.
The central nervous system (CNS) is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. The CNS controls the body's functions and responses to sensory information. The brain plays a central role in controlling bodily functions like awareness, movement, sensations, thoughts, speech, and memory. The spinal cord connects to the brainstem and runs through the spinal canal, enabling some reflexes without brain involvement.
This document summarizes the basic structures and functions of neurons. It explains that neurons are specialized cells that transmit electrical and chemical signals. The key parts of a neuron are the cell body, dendrites, and axon. Dendrites receive signals from other neurons and pass them to the cell body. The axon carries electrical impulses from the cell body to structures called axon terminals, which then pass the signal to other neurons across junctions called synapses. At a synapse, the presynaptic terminal releases chemicals that transmit the signal across the synaptic cleft to the postsynaptic neuron.
Physiological psychology connects behavior and mental processes to bodily processes and the functions of the brain. It is also known as biopsychology, psychobiology, physiological psychology, and behavioral neuroscience. There are four categories of biological explanations for behavior: physiological explanations relate behavior to brain and organ activity; ontogenetic explanations describe how behaviors develop based on genes, experiences, and their interactions; evolutionary explanations examine how behaviors evolved over time to enhance survival; and functional explanations appeal to the functions a structure or system has. The goal is to understand biology's relationship to psychological issues.

In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. 3. One Country, Two Systems
When Great Britain handed over one of its last Colonies, Hong Kong, the Brits and
China had an agreement regarding a country and two systems solution
"One country, two systems" is a constitutional principle describing the governance of
Hong Kong and Macau since they became regions of China in 1997 and 1999,
respectively.
Under the principle, each of the two regions could continue to have its own
governmental system, legal, economic and financial affairs, including trade relations
with foreign countries, all of which are independent from those of the Mainland.
4. Why are they Protesting? Unification.
The proposed amendments that sparked the protests would allow Hong Kong residents,
foreign residents, and visitors to be extradited to mainland China, where they would
not be guaranteed a fair trial and may be subject to torture and other human rights
abuses.
5. What are the Protesters Demands?
Full withdrawal of the extradition bill
A commission of inquiry into alleged police brutality
Retracting the classification of protesters as “rioters”
Amnesty for arrested protesters
Dual universal suffrage, meaning for both the Legislative Council
and the Chief Executive

15. Summary
Hong Kong's protests started in June against plans to allow extradition to mainland
China.Critics feared this could undermine judicial independence and endanger
dissidents.
Until 1997, Hong Kong was ruled by Britain as a colony but then returned to China.
Under the "one country, two systems" arrangement, it has some autonomy, and its
people more rights.
The bill was withdrawn in September but demonstrations continue and now demand
full democracy and an inquiry into police actions.
Clashes between police and activists have become increasingly violent, with police
firing live bullets and protesters attacking officers and throwing petrol bombs
16. Overall, media activism has played a major role in mass dissemination of
information through various social media apps as well as online & print media ,
for the purpose of collecting funds, gathering masses for protests and its planning
Achieving the things which HK Protesters have achieved in such short span of time
would have been unfathomable without the use of effective media
HK Protests come under of the best protests in 21st century
The coming weeks are a critical period for the future of democracy, human rights,
and prosperity in Hong Kong. History has shown that authoritarian rulers act more
assertively when met with a permissive international environment.
The United States and other democracies must take strong, immediate action to
defend their own economic and security interests, to stand with the people of
Hong Kong as they defend their democratic rights and freedoms, and to
communicate the risks China faces should the situation deteriorate further.
