Introduction into Oil and Gas Industry. OIL: Part 1Fidan Aliyeva
The document provides an introduction to the oil and gas industry, covering the following key points in 7 sentences or less:
Oil formed from the remains of ancient organisms over millions of years. It varies in composition and properties depending on its origin. Major oil producers and traders include OPEC countries, international oil majors, and national oil companies. OPEC coordinates policies to stabilize oil markets and ensure supply. While oil reserves could last over 40 years at current production rates, consumption is rising. Large price fluctuations can significantly impact oil-producing and consuming economies. The industry is working to increase capacity and ensure secure long-term oil supplies.
Corrosion inspection in oil and gas pipelinedia_dean
This document discusses the causes of corrosion in pipelines in Australia. It identifies three major causes: 1) Pitting corrosion, which occurs when pipes made of ductile iron are buried in soil, damaging the protective oxide scale; 2) Stress corrosion cracking, where cracks nucleate and propagate under tensile stress in a corrosive environment; and 3) Galvanic corrosion, which occurs via ion flow when two dissimilar metals are connected in an electrolyte. Corrosion costs Australia $13 billion annually and has caused major accidents by rupturing gas pipelines. Identifying the causes of corrosion is important for reducing hazards and costs to the oil and gas industry.

3. OIL FIELD TECHNOLOGY
Oil and natural gas are naturally occurring
chemicals that are made up of just two
elements -- carbon and hydrogen. The class of
chemicals based on carbon and hydrogen are
called hydrocarbons. The name
petroleum covers both naturally occurring
unprocessed crude oil and petroleum
products that are made up of refined crude oil.
5. Courses On OilAnd Gas Technology
• This course being delivered for the first time in kerala through TECHSHORE.
• The Course covers a wide range of advanced education in Oil and Gas
Technology including Surveying, Drilling , Production, Processing and
storage.
• The course is designed to be why useful for the career development of oil &
Gas industry who are seeking a fresh career in Oil and Gas industry.
• On successful completion of the course
Diploma in “Oil and Gas technology “, certificate is awarded by
TECHSHORE under the affiliation of ISPE (Indian School of Petroleum and
Energy, New Delhi) under UPES ( University of Petroleum and Energy
Studies).
6. • The course covers a wide range of oil & Gas related

7. Why oil field???
• At present only 30% of petroleum demands are
met through indigenous production.
• Available 26 sedimentary basins in India likely to
be the storehouse of this fossil fuel ,but only 30%
of area has been explored so far.
• Our quest for more oil and gas can be satisfied if
we have the right young personnel to lead the
challenge
• The task can be accomplished only with the right
blend of men who master the specialized oil field
technology.

27. What are Some Uses of NDT Methods?
• Flaw Detection and Evaluation
• Leak Detection
• Location Determination
• Dimensional Measurements
• Structure and Microstructure Characterization
• Estimation of Mechanical and Physical Properties
• Stress (Strain) and Dynamic
Response Measurements
• Material Sorting and Chemical
Composition Determination
28. Definitionof NDT
Non-destructive testing (NDT)
is a wide group of analysis
techniques used in science
and industry to evaluate the
properties, defects etc of a
material, component or
system without causing
damage to it.
29. Whenare NDT Methods Used?
– To assist in product development
– To screen or sort incoming materials
– To monitor, improve or control manufacturing
processes
– To verify proper processing such as heat treating
– To verify proper assembly
– To inspect for in-service damage
There are NDE application at almost any stage
in the production or life cycle of a component.
30. Five Most Common NDT Methods
• Visual Inspection
• Liquid Penetrant Testing
• Magnetic Particle Testing
• Ultrasonic Testing
• Radiograph Testing
31. Most basic and common
inspection method.
Tools include fiberscopes,
bore scopes, magnifying
glasses and mirrors.
Robotic crawlers permit
observation in hazardous or
tight areas, such as air ducts,
reactors, pipelines.
Portable video inspection unit
with zoom allows inspection
of large tanks and vessels,
railroad tank cars, sewer lines.
VisualInspection
32. • A liquid with high surface wetting characteristics is applied
to the surface of the test piece and is allowed to seep into
surface defects and cracks are detected.
Liquid PenetrantInspection
33. Magnetic ParticleInspection
The part is magnetized. Finely milled iron particles coated with a dye pigment
are then applied to the specimen. These particles are attracted to magnetic flux
leakage fields and will cluster to form an indication directly over the
discontinuity. This indication can be visually detected under proper lighting
conditions.
35. Radiography
The radiation used in radiography testing is a
higher energy (shorter wavelength) version of
the electromagnetic waves that we
see as visible light. The radiation can come
from an X-ray generator or a radioactive
source.

37. High frequency sound waves are introduced into a material and
they are reflected back from surfaces or flaws.
Reflected sound energy is displayed versus time, and inspector can
visualize a cross section of the specimen showing the depth of
features that reflect sound.
