1. The first week of the new intern team was spent determining roles, completing a project plan, and organizing materials. However, several key parts from last year were either missing or broken, including the SD card for the 3D printer. 2. 7. 3D Printer 7
Unfortunately, the SD card was misplaced during transport. The SD card is a
crucial part of the 3D printer. Without it, the printer was unable to print.
Luckily, we were able to buy another SD card; However, the SD card did not
have the files needed to run the printer.
We asked for help on a 3D printing forum, and someone sent us the files from
their own SD card. After uploading the files onto our SD card, the files
worked, but we couldn’t print our own designs. We then found out that the
printer could only print files in x3g format. Once we figured that out, we did
research on different slicing softwares and found that Makerware works best.
Then, we downloaded Makerware, which allowed us to use the 3D printer.

8. Plate Scanner: Rewiring Breadboards & Arduinos 8
Sadly, Batman (Drew’s dog) sat on the plate scanner last year and a lot of
the breadboard and Arduinos’ wires got broken or disconnected. Kai
tried to fix this, but because nobody on the new team has a lot of
experience with breadboards, he had to resort to learning how to do this
from the internet. Kai will finish rewiring the breadboard and Arduinos
by next Tuesday.

During the first week of our internship, we quickly realized that several
parts and core components of our internship were missing. The SD card
for the 3D printer had been lost, the plate scanner was completely
broken due to Batman(the dog), several parts of the arduinos were
missing, and the program files were missing. Through the first week, we
managed to recuperate nearly everything that was broken or damaged
with exclusion of the 3D printer. Considering the setbacks, I found this
week to be surprisingly successful.

I was pretty upset that the 3D printer wouldn’t work, and that we
had to buy two SD cards. I’m hoping that the next week will be
more productive.

The week went by ok, but the problem was that most of the
things last year was broken by the last interns and the SD card for
the 3D printer was lost, so we were trying to get the software
online again.

I think we could have had a more productive week if we didn’t
lose the SD card. Additionally, the transition could have been
smoother if the old team taught us more about how to use the
equipment (eg: putting plate scanner together and slicing 3D
