How will you express or
reduce this ratio in its
simplest form?
• Simplifying ratios is just the same as
reducing fractions since ratios
can be written as fractions.
• To reduce the ratio in simplest form,
find the GCF of the numbers and divide
both the number.
GCF of 3 and 6 is 3 numbers
• So, the simplest form
of 3:6 is 1:2
The term “simplest form” is the same as
“lowest terms” in ratios and fractions.
How about this ratio of 7:10? Is there a
simplest form of this ratio?
• 7 and 10 are numbers with no GCF or
common factor except 1.
These numbers are relatively prime
numbers.
So, the ratio 7:10 is already in its
simplest form.

Study the ratios in the table carefully.
Match the ratios in Column A to its simplest
form in Column B. Write the
letter of your answer on the blank.
Identify the given ratios if equivalent or
not. Write in the box Yes if they are equal
and No if not.

pupils. What is its simplest
form?
3. Ellen is 130 cm tall and Cecil
is 150 cm tall. Find the ratio of
Ellen’s height to Cecil’s height.
Reduce the ratio to its simplest
form.
