What is mass communication Mass communication  is the term used to describe the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information through  mass media  to large segments of the population at the same time. It is usually understood to relate to  newspaper  and  magazine  publishing,  radio ,  television  and  film , as these are used both for disseminating  news  and for advertisement The term 'mass' suggests that the recipients of media products constitute a vast sea of passive, undifferentiated individuals The word 'communication' is really equated with 'transmission', as viewed by the sender, rather than in the fuller meaning, which includes the notions of response, sharing and interaction.  Graduates of Mass Communication programs work in a variety of fields in traditional  news media  and  publishing ,  advertising ,  public relations  and research institutes

JOURNALISM Journalism is concerned with collection and dissemination of  news  through the print media as well as the electronic media. This involves various areas of works like reporting, writing, editing, photographing, broadcasting or cable casting news items.
MODULES OF JOURNALISM Print Journalism  Electronic (Audio/Visual) Journalism
PRINT MEDIA Print Journalism includes newspapers, magazines and journals. In print journalism one can work as editors, reporters, columnists, correspondents etc  Students in the print program will acquire skills in analytical thinking, lucid writing, and effective interviewing to be able to present a clear and forceful picture of their subject in words and images. To have a broad background, students are encouraged to earn more than 60 percent of their credits in other departments, thereby developing a wide understanding of the world and the processes that make society work.
Electronic (Audio/Visual)   journalism  Electronic journalism includes working for Radio, Television and the Web. In the web, skilled people are required to maintain sites by web newspapers (which cater only to the web and do not have print editions) and popular newspapers  Electronic journalism for electronic news gathering - is most associated with broadcast news where producers, reporters and editors make use of electronic recording devices for gathering and presenting information in telecasts and radio transmissions reaching the public

Video  and  computer  uses followed.  Film , most often used for entertainment, but also for  documentaries .  Internet , which has many uses and presents both opportunities and challenges. Public relations  Public relations  is the art and science of managing communication between an organization and its key publics to build, manage and sustain its positive image. Examples include: Corporations use marketing public relations (MPR) to convey information about the products they manufacture or services they provide to potential customers to support their direct sales efforts. Typically, they support sales in the short and long term, establishing and burnishing the corporation's branding for a strong, ongoing market.  Corporations also use public-relations as a vehicle to reach legislators and other politicians, seeking favorable tax, regulatory, and other treatment, and they may use public relations to portray themselves as enlightened employers, in support of human-resources recruiting programs.  Non-profit organizations, including schools and universities, hospitals, and human and social service agencies, use public relations in support of awareness programs, fund-raising programs, staff recruiting, and to increase patronage of their services.  Politicians use public relations to attract votes and raise money, and, when successful at the ballot box, to promote and defend their service in office, with an eye to the next election or, at career’s end, to their legacy.
Careers in Mass Communication  Advertising   In a career in advertising, one will be involved in research pertaining to developing advertising strategies, how advertising campaigns are produced, and how marketing plays into advertising.  Careers in advertising include positions such as an advertising or marketing specialist, copy writer, media planner, media buyer, creative director, and media sales representative.
RadioTelevision/Broadcasting/ELECTRONIC Media   There are many careers relating to radio-television/broadcasting/electronic media that include positions as a broadcasting station manager, director of broadcasting, film editor, news director, news writer, technical director, advertising sales coordinator, media buyer, actor, announcer, disc jockey, news anchor, public relations manager, comedy writer, casting director, producer, talk show host, and many more
Journalism   As a journalist, one will involve themselves in the researching, collecting, writing, editing, and presenting of information/news and then communicating it to the public through newspapers, magazines, radio, television, etc.  Journalism offers career positions as reporters, editors, newscasters, authors, copywriters, publishers, technical writers, media interviewers, talk show hosts, and more.
