Mass is the amount of matter in an object and can be measured using a balance scale or electronic scale. Volume is how much space an object takes up and can be measured using a graduated cylinder or beaker by determining the amount of water displaced. There are two main ways to calculate both mass and volume - using a balance or electronic scale for mass, and either a graduated cylinder or beaker for volume by seeing how much liquid an object displaces.

3. Mass-1st way to calculate.
The first way to find the mass of an object is to
weigh it on a Balance scale. When using a balance
scale you must put the object, you are trying to
find the mass of, on one side of the scale. Then
put weighed out weights on the other side of the
scale till the scale is even, or balanced. then
calculate all the weights used to balance the scale
together. That will give you the mass of that
object.

The second way you can find the mass of an
object is using an electronic scale. When using an
electronic scale all you need to do is tern it on
then put the object you are trying to weigh on the
scale. It will then calculate the mass, in grams,
electronically. That is your mass.

Volume is how much space an object, or thing, takes
up.
For example, this beaker can be used to find
the volume of an object.

6. Volume-1st way to calculate.
The first way you can calculate volume is with a
graduated cylinder. First you have to fill the
beaker to certain amount. Then drop the object in
the water in the cylinder. What ever the amount
of water is in the cylinder after the object is put in
the water, then you subtract the amount of water
you started with from it. Whatever your answer is
would be the amount of volume that object
caries.

7. Volume-2nd way to calculate.
The second way you can measure volume is with a
beaker. You do the same thing you do with a
graduated cylinder except this way isn’t as accurate
as the cylinder would be. This is because the lines
that measure the amount of water in the beaker are
not as close together, and there isn’t as many lines
so it can hold more water.
