- 8. Full Members : voluntary or non-profit organizations with a parent organization that belongs to NVOAD. Associate Members (non-voting): voluntary or non-profit organizations without parent organizations that are members of NVOAD; executive council can also grant associate membership to governmental agencies. Affiliate Members (non-voting): corporate partners and other persons or organizations that do not meet criteria for full or associate membership. Local VOAD Members (non-voting): county or local agencies active in disaster that convene to form a local umbrella organization with the spirit of MDVOAD are eligible to become Local VOAD Members. - After Hurricane Camille in 1969, several voluntary organizations met to discuss mutual concerns of duplication of services. Beginning in 1970 these organizations began to met on a regular basis to coordinate disaster response, and eventually NVOAD was formally organized. Today, NVOAD has member organizations, and has hosted an annual conference each year since 1992. NVOAD helps to develop VOADS at the State and local levels.
- NVOAD is an umbrella of national voluntary organizations. NVOAD works to achieve increased cooperation, coordination, communication, and communications among voluntary organizations. NVOAD helps provide policy guidance to State VOADs. MDVOAD is a counterpart of NVOAD. This Statewide organization brings together voluntary agencies active in disasters to foster more coordination and effective response to residents of Maryland in times of need. One goal of Maryland VOAD is to increase membership of voluntary agencies in order to increase the number of volunteers available to assist in disaster relief operations. Local voluntary organizations active in disasters are umbrella organizations of local voluntary agencies and organizations which coordinate disaster services at the local level. Local VOADs are often composed of local branches of national voluntary organizations, most notably the local ARC chapters.
