Before talking about feminism, we must talk about the word patriarchy which refers to any form of social power given disproportionately to men. The word patriarchy literally means the rule of the Male or Father.
The presentation is about FEMINISM. It also talks about the principles of the concept and it includes famous individuals behind the struggle of the feminists.
The word ‘Subaltern’ stands for ‘of inferior rank’ or status. Subordinate, hence, of rank, power, authority and action. In other words, it refers to the subordination of class, caste, gender, race, language and culture. It also indicates to those groups in society who are subject to the domination of the ruling classes. In general, subaltern classes include peasants, workers and other groups who have been denied access to ‘hegemonic’ power.
Antonio Gramsci: Italian Marxist, best known for his elaboration of the concept of 'hegemony'. A founder of the Italian communist party (in 1921), he was imprisoned by the Fascists in 1926, and spent the remainder of his life under arrest. While in prison, and despite poor health, he continued to study and write. The Prison Notebooks (1929—1935), published only after the fall of Fascism, represent the core of his considerable contribution to Marxist theory. (Edgar, Sedgwick, 2002) ...........

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. What is Feminism
● Feminism is a range of social movements, political movements, and
ideologies that share a common goal to define, establish and achieve the
political economic, personal and social equality of the sexes.
● The feminist movement produced both feminist fiction and non-fiction and
created new interest in women’s writing.
3. Marxist Feminism
● Marxist feminism is a sub-type of feminist ideology which focuses on the
dismantling of capitalism as a way to liberate women.
● Marxism claims that individuals are under the oppression of a dominant
power structure. Marxist feminism points out the roll of capitalism in the
oppression of women.
● Marxist feminism states that economic inequality, dependence, political
confusion and unhealthy social relations between men and women are the
root of women’s oppression in the current social context.
4. About Elaine Showalter
● Elaine Showalter is an American literary
critic, feminist, and writer on cultural and
social issues.
● She is one of the founders of Feminist
literary criticism in United States academia,
developing the concept and practice of
gynocriticism.
● She is best known for her works : Towards
a Feminist Poetics (1979), The Female
Malady: Women, Madness, and English
Culture
5. ● She is a specialist in Victorian literature and her most innovative work in this
field is in madness and hysteria in literature, specifically in women’s writing
and in the portrayal of female characters.
● Showalter is concerned by stereotypes of feminism that see feminist critics
as being ‘obsessed with destroying male artists’ and wonders if such
stereotypes emerge from the fact that feminism lacks a fully articulated
theory.
6. Showalter has divided Feminist criticism
into two sections:
● The woman as Reader or Feminist Critique
● The woman as Writer or Gynocritic
7. The Woman as Reader or Feminist Critique
● The Feminist Critique envisions the women as the readers of those male
produced texts. The feminist thus, try to trace out the images and
stereotype of the women exposed in the male texts.
● This is also called traditional feminist criticism where women are the
consumers of the production in literary writing.
8. The Woman as Writer or Gynocritics
● “In contrast to an angry or loving fixation on male literature, the program of
gynocritics is to construct a female framework for the analysis of women’s
literature, to develop new models based on the study of female experience,
rather than to adapt male models and theories.”
● Gynocritics begins at the point when we free ourselves from the linear
absolutes of male literary history, stop trying to fit women between the lines
of the male tradition and focus instead on the newly visible world of female
culture.
9. Gynocriticism
● Gynocriticism is concerned with woman as writer, with woman as the
producer of textual meaning
● Showalter presents gynocritics as a way to construct a female framework
for the analysis of women’s literature.
● It is an examination of female writers and their place in literary history along
with the discovery and exploration of a canon of literature written by
women.
● It is also concerned with the treatment of female characters in books by
both male and female writers.
10. Three Phases of Feminism
● The Feminine Phase (1840-1880)
● The Feminist Phase (1880-1920)
● The Female Phase (1920-)
11. The Feminine Phase
● “Women wrote in an effort to equal the intellectual achievements of the
male culture, and internalised its assumptions about female culture.” -
About Elaine Showalter Theory of Gynocriticism
● Women write female characters with male traits in order to show the
inequality between the genders.
● The distinguishing sign of this period is the male pseudonym which exerts
an irregular pressure on the narrative, affecting tone, diction, structure, and
characterization.
12. The Feminist Phase
● “Women are historical enabled to reject the accommodating postures of
femininity and to use literature to dramatize the ordeals of wronged
womanhood...a generation of New Women redefined the women artists role
in terms of responsibility to suffering sisters.” - About Elaine Showalter
Theory of Gynocriticism
● Women write about the struggles that woman face within their literature.
● This phase was characterised by women’s writing that protested against
male standards and values and advocated women’s rights and values.
13. The Female Phase
● “Women reject both imitation and protest- two form of dependency- and turn
instead to female experience as the source o f an autonomous art.” - About
Elaine Showalter Theory of Gynocriticism
● Rather than imitating men (feminine stage) or protesting (feminist stage),
women instead go through a stage of self discovery.
