Karl Marx was a 19th century philosopher and economist who developed the socio-political theory of Marxism. Marxism advocates for socialism and the historical inevitability of a proletariat revolution where workers seize control of the government to redistribute wealth more evenly. In Marxist theory, media can mediate between opposing societal forces and bring them together, such as the cultural and material realms. State-owned media like the BBC is an example of Marxism in media since the media is controlled by the state, similar to communist theory.
