Editing
• Continuity- It is the process of cutting to keep the flow of the shot together as fluidly as
possible not showing the whole footage.
• Jump Cut -a type of editing transition that is very fast which gives a sense of confusion in
space and time. It is usually used to keep the flow of continuity.
• Motivation-Audience Motivation, Story Motivation, Physical Motivation, Character
Motivation and General Film Motivation
• Montage- is a technique in film editing in which a series of short shots are edited into a
sequence to condense space, time, and information.
• Parallel-editing - These terms refer to simultaneous occurrences in films. For instance, when
you see a woman running down the street, and then it cuts to a man sitting at a restaurant
eating alone. He looks at his watch. Then we cut back to the woman.
• 180-degree point of view shot-is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial
relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene
• Shot reverse shot-is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another
character, and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character
• Proving -is used in TV and films and it is beastly about when the audience find out about
certain information
• Cross cutting- is an editing technique most often used in films to establish action occurring at
the same time in two different locations

• Use haze- this will help set a unique and mysterious mood to your scenes.
• Unique angles- such as tilts and canted, this can set an unsettling feeling
for the viewer
• Handheld shots- have shots of the characters feet running away from
something
• Close up shots- this shows emotion through the characters expressions

Representations of Females in horror
films
Women are represented in a variety of ways in films, depending
on the genre and narrative that it's based. Often women are
represented as vulnerable, naïve and powerless or as
hypersexual damsels in distress, Often gender is crucial in horror
films, not long ago the only role women had in horror films was
tottering around our screens half naked before screaming and
being brutally murdered by the killer, showing that a lot of
Hollywood films differentially use women to serve men. Women
are traditionally represented as the victims and men represented
as the monster and hero.
Narrative
A horror thriller is a film that pursues a goal to provide
thrills and keep the audience interacted and hanging
off the edge of their seats. Tension usually occurs when
the main character (usually a female) is stuck in a
threatening positon where they have to make difficult
choices on whether they run away and escape the
protagonist or whether they try and face it. The
character then escapes the problem and the
protagonist disappears.
Sub-genre conventions research
Psychological (surreal)
This subgenre is usually written from
a tight viewpoint. Is the protagonist
really seeing terrible things, perhaps
battling against human conspiracies
and/or demonic possession. Surreal
horror incorporates bizarre imagery,
often drawn from vivid, threatening
dreams.
Supernatural (demons, zombies, etc.)
These stories focus on various types of
monster from 'beyond,' persistently ruining the
lives of a suffering humanity. Often the setting
is an isolated village, where the protagonist
becomes stranded
Paranormal
is a subgenre with mortal heroes. Such tales
emphasize a difficult battle against evil
supernatural encroachment, whether by a
saintly exorcist or high-tech ghostbusters
Slasher Film
Often revolves around a serial killer who
systematically murders people through violent
means
Comedy Horror
Combines the elements of comedy and horror
fiction. The comedy horror genre almost
always inevitably crosses over with the black
comedy genre
