This paper provides a description of the MediaEval 2020 “Multimodal personal health lifelog data analysis". The purpose of this task is to develop approaches that process the environment data to obtain insights about personal wellbeing. Establishing the association between people’s wellbeing and properties of the surrounding environment which is vital for numerous research. Our task focuses on the internal associations of heterogeneous data. Participants create systems that derive insights from multimodal lifelog data that are important for health and wellbeing to tackle two challenging subtasks. The first task is to investigate whether we can use public/open data to predict personal air pollution data. The second task is to develop approaches to predict personal air quality index(AQI) using images captured by people (plus GAQD). This task targets (but is not limited to) researchers in the areas of multimedia information retrieval, machine learning, AI, data science, event-based processing and analysis, multimodal multimedia content analysis, lifelog data analysis, urban computing, environmental science, and atmospheric science.

In this paper, we propose a method to predict the personal air quality index in an area by using the combination of the levels of the following pollutants: PM2.5, NO2, and O3, measured from the nearby weather stations of that area, and the photos of surrounding scenes taken at that area. Our approach uses the Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) technique to estimate the missing air pollutant levels and then use regression to integrate visual features from taken photos to optimize the predicted values. After that, we can use those values to calculate the Air Quality Index (AQI). The results show that the proposed method may not improve the performance of the prediction in some cases.

Statistical Technique in Gas Dispersion Modeling Based on Linear InterpolationTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
In this paper, we introduced statistical techniques in creating a gas dispersion model in an indoor with a controlled environment. The temperature, air-wind and humidity were constant throughout the experiment. The collected data were then treated as an image; which the pixel size is similar to the total data available for x and y axis. To predict the neighborhood value, linear interpolation technique was implemented. The result of the experiment is significantly applicable in extending the total amount of data if small data is available.
The problem of landmark recognition has achieved excellent results in small-scale datasets. When dealing with large-scale retrieval, issues that were irrelevant with small amount of data, quickly become fundamental for an efficient retrieval phase. In particular, computational time needs to be kept as low as possible, whilst the retrieval accuracy has to be preserved as much as possible. In this paper we propose a novel multi-index hashing method called Bag of Indexes (BoI) for Approximate Nearest Neighbors (ANN) search. It allows to drastically reduce the query time and outperforms the accuracy results compared to the state-of-the-art methods for large-scale landmark recognition. It has been demonstrated that this family of algorithms can be applied on different embedding techniques like VLAD and R-MAC obtaining excellent results in very short times on different public datasets: Holidays+Flickr1M, Oxford105k and Paris106k.
A comparison of SIFT, PCA-SIFT and SURFCSCJournals
This paper compares three robust feature detection methods, they are, Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), Principal Component Analysis (PCA) -SIFT and Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF). Lowe presented SIFT [1], which was successfully used in recognition, stitching and many other applications because of its robustness. Yan Ke [2] gave a change of SIFT by using PCA to normalize the gradient patch instead of histogram. H. Bay [3] presented a faster method for SURF, which used Fast-Hessian detector. The performance of the three methods is compared for scale changes, rotation , blur, illumination changes and affine transformations, all of which uses repeatability as an evaluation measurement. Additionally, RANSAC is used to reject the inconsistent matches [4]. SIFT presents its stability in most situation except rotation and illumination changes. SURF is the fastest one with good performance as the same as SIFT, PCA-SIFT shows its advantages in rotation, blur and illumination changes.

Stereo vision is one of the interesting research topics in the computer vision field. Two cameras are used to generate a disparity map, resulting in the depth estimation. Camera calibration is the most important step in stereo vision. The calibration step is used to generate an intrinsic parameter of each camera to get a better disparity map. In general, the calibration process is done manually by using a chessboard pattern, but this process is an exhausting task. Self-calibration is an important ability required to overcome this problem. Self-calibration required a robust and good matching algorithm to find the key feature between images as reference. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of three matching algorithms for the autocalibration process. The matching algorithms used in this research are SIFT, SURF, and ORB. The result shows that SIFT performs better than other methods.

the planar regions robustly and has good potential to be used in real applications.

Precise Attitude Determination Using a Hexagonal GPS PlatformCSCJournals
In this paper, a method of precise attitude determination using GPS is proposed. We use a hexagonal antenna platform of 1 m diameter (called the wheel) and post-processing algorithms to calculate attitude, where we focus on yaw to prove the concept. The first part of the algorithm determines an initial absolute position using single point positioning. The second part involves double differencing (DD) the carrier phase measurements for the received GPS signals to determine relative positioning of the antennas on the wheel. The third part consists of Direct Computation Method (DCM) or Implicit Least Squares (ILS) algorithms which, given sufficiently accurate knowledge of the fixed body frame coordinates of the wheel, takes in relative positions of all the receivers and produces the attitude. Field testing results presented in this paper will show that an accuracy of 0.05 degrees in yaw can be achieved. The results will be compared with a theoretical error, which is shown by Monte Carlo simulation to be < 0.001 degrees. The improvement to the current state-of-the-art is that current methods require either very large baselines of several meters to achieve such accuracy or provide errors in yaw that are orders of magnitude greater.

Shape from focus is a method of 3D shape and depth estimation of an object from a sequence of pictures with changing focus settings. In this paper we propose a novel method of shape recovery, which was originally created for shape and position identification of glass pipette in medical hybrid robot. In proposed algorithm, Sum of Modified Laplacian is used as a focus operator. Each step of the algorithm is tested in order to pick the operators with the best results. Reconstruction allows not only to determine shape but also precisely define position of the object. The results of proposed method, performed on real objects, have shown the efficiency of this scheme.

Recent advancement in sensor technology allows very high spatial resolution along with multiple spectral bands. There are many studies, which highlight that Object Based Image Analysis(OBIA) is more accurate than pixel-based classification for high resolution(< 2m) imagery. Image segmentation is a crucial step for OBIA and it is a very formidable task to estimate optimal parameters for segmentation as it does not have any unique solution. In this paper, we have studied different segmentation algorithms (both mono-scale and multi-scale) for different terrain categories and showed how the segmented output depends on upon various parameters. Later, we have introduced a novel method to estimate optimal segmentation parameters. The main objectives of this study are to highlight the effectiveness of presently available segmentation techniques on very high-resolution satellite data and to automate segmentation process. Pre-estimation of segmentation parameter is more practical and efficient in OBIA. Assessment of segmentation algorithms and estimation of segmentation parameters are examined based on the very high-resolution multi-spectral WorldView-3(0.3m, PAN sharpened) data.
