• Betel leaf is a cash crop
• In 2010-11 total betel leaf area was 18,247 ha with a production
of 1,05,953 tons
• The area of this crop has been increasing
at a rate of 1.8% over the years
• Benefit cost ratio is 1.25
• Generally cultivated in Khulna , Rajhshahi,
Borishal , Potuakhali , Moheshkhali.

Agricultural
• Leaf rot disease is a common
problem
• High price of Boroj materials
• Lack of good quality seeds
• High labor required
• Unconsciousness of farmers
• Degrades quickly
Marketing
• Low price in Ramadan as well as
rainy season
• Presence of Middle men
• Selling in unhygienic condition
• Customer demand varies with
size, color , shape of leaf
• Failing to reach all classes of
people

• It is a must in any marriage ceremony and religious aspects also
• Betel nut industry is dependent on it to a great extent
• Once boroj is established, profit can be gained for several years
• Export opportunities are getting wider day by day
• Release of new varieties like BARI-1 , BARI-2 ,BARI-3
• Taking betel leaf without lime is helpful in increasing apetite ,
preventing Gastric , diabetes ,headache etc.
• Organic Paan cultivation

• Selling it in water proof transparent pack
• Producing organic betel leaf
• Selling in different shapes like heart, round, star, triangle i.e. other
than the conventional one
• Home delivery over calls
• Advertising by celebrities like cricketers , film actors etc

• Supply betel leaves to those countries where Bangladeshi immigrants
are available
• Creating a Paan corner in daily Super shops
• Since it reduces vomiting tendency so we can have sales center at
every long route bus counter
• Selling pan with betel-Nut in powder form for aged people
