Museums Go Mobile: Start designing the service, not the websiteFrankly, Green + Webb
Guardian Culture Professionals article here - http://www.theguardian.com/culture-professionals-network/culture-professionals-blog/2014/may/16/mobile-museums-design-services-websites
The truth is that mobile isn't working for museums in the way we imagined. It's not the silver bullet. We've made apps that haven't been downloaded. We created handheld guides that don't get used and the perennial question of can mobile deliver pre- and post- visits still hangs in the air. So it is time to right mobile off? Or, perhaps now is the right time to think about mobile in a different way.
What do our visitors needs and behaviours show us about how they think and use our museums? How can we interpret these to design services that are truly transformative? What tools and processes can we use to make mobile a fully integrated part of the service offered by a museum?
Taking a look at what happens when we stop designing a mobile products and start using mobile as tool in the design for a whole service.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
10. Some Case Studies
Here’s a few examples of
success we’ve had over the
years. We’ve tried to go
into detail as much as
possible - if there is any
specific info you’d like to
know on these, just ask!
11. Scenario:
Catskill Animal Sanctuary was
offered the chance to have a
donor match up to $1.5 Million
for their 2010 end of the year
campaign.
12. Outcome:
We developed and executed a multipart
online & offline campaign using social
media, email newsletters, marketing
materials, website redesign, and overall
branding strategy. Some stats:
• the campaign brought in $1.7 million within 4
months;
• increased membership by 28%, and social media
interaction by roughly 732% from previous year;
• got press coverage on Huffington Post, Peta,
Treehugger, and tons more blogs/outlets. Also got
regular column on Huff Po for CAS Founder.

19. Scenario:
In June 2010 the Gulf Oil Spill
was still in full effect. The
attitudes of the general public
were turning from outrage to
apathy. We couldn’t sit by and
watch this happen so we
made our own campaign!
20. Outcome:
We created a fictitious cause called A
Cleaner Future and made a viral
marketing piece called instantoilspill.com
(still live if you want to visit). Some stats:
• had over 75,000 people sign a petition on Care2
and almost 26,000 shares across Facebook and
Twitter;
• generated over $35,000 in donations for gulf relief
organizations by the fall of 2010;
• whole project took a weekend to build and market
• had over 1,000,000 visits in its first month;
• press coverage on Huffington Post, CNN, PBS,
MSNBC and tons of smaller blogs/outlets.
21.
22.
23.
24.
25. Scenario:
Ethikus, a startup to help
promote triple bottom line
companies, wanted to make a
splash in NYC and create a
movement around sustainable
conscientious consumerism
through a new event called
Shop Your Values Week.
26. Outcome:
We gave them a guerilla marketing
campaign online and offline that helped
create the necessary buz and get the
attraction of super supporters that have
signed on to help them promote the
Ethikus brand year round. Some stats:
• the campaign received over 2,800 pledges and
over 200 NYC businesses came together to shop
locally, ethically, & sustainably;
• over 100 volunteers participated during the week;
• got press coverage across NYC and online from NY
Post to PSFK;
• total reach of influence was about 732,000 NYers.
