Organizing Your First Website Usability Test - WordCamp Boston 2016Anthony D. Paul
You’ve built a shiny, new WordPress site. You asked your grandma and your client if they like it and they both do. However, you’re lying awake at night wondering if you’re missing something—because you know you’re not the end user. You yearn for actionable feedback.
In this talk, I’ll distill my background in usability research into a how-to framework for taking your site and conducting your first moderated usability test. I’ll cover what to look for, best practices in facilitation, tools on the cheap, and how to glean the most from a brief window of time.
A presentation I made for showing Alcatel-Lucent developers what usability is about and what simple techniques they could use in their development process.

Sharpest tool in the box: Choosoing the best authoring tool for your learning...Brightwave Group
From rapid and responsive, to video and cross-browser capability we demand great things from the authoring tools available to us. And there are many to choose from.
This presentation explores the key factors we recommend you consider when choosing an authoring tool. These vary according to environment and culture, to the needs of your learners and the objectives of the learning. Choosing the right authoring tool and ensuring it is based on your needs ensures your learning content is not simply fit for purpose, but meets the aims of your wider learning strategy.

Do no harm: Tips for avoiding the unethical turn of events in user research (...Jennifer (Jen) McGinn
This is the 10-minute talk I gave to NH UXPA on December 11th and Boston UXPA on October 30th. It's time we start talking (again) about the ethical issues in user research and design. While 10 minutes is barely enough time to scratch the surface, I hope to give a longer version of this talk in the future, because there is so much more for us to explore and discuss.
Introductory slides to a collaborative usability observation & issue prioritisation session. A training and service promotion workshop for the University of Edinburgh Website Programme.
Lightweight and ‘guerrilla’ usability testing for digital humanities projectsMia
For the 2014 Digital Humanities Summer School at the University of Oxford DHOxSS. Usability doesn’t have to be a drag, and user testing doesn’t have to take months and a cast of thousands. Following the principle that ‘any user testing is better than no user testing’, lightweight usability is based on the idea that all you need to run useful tests with real people is a bit of planning and a couple of hours. In this session you will learn how to plan and run a lightweight usability test on paper prototypes or early versions of digital projects and get tips for recruiting and rewarding participants for 'guerrilla usability testing'. At the end of the workshop we will put it into practice by running a live usability test on a site suggested by the audience.
Remote usability testing and remote user research for usabilityUser Vision
From User Vision's presentation on remote usability testing describing some of the main methods, challenges, tools and tips for successful remote usability testing for user experience
Usability Testing for Developers with No BudgetAshley Dzick
Usability testing is a fantastic way to get customer feedback and easy enough to execute that anyone can do it. At this session we'll walk through a very quick introduction to testing, how to test (even with a budget of $0), and run through some case studies of successful tests. Attend the workshop if you’re looking to gather meaningful feedback, develop front-end facing applications, work alongside a UX team, or you’re just interested in learning more.

Learn how to use prototyping and usability testing as a means to validate proposed functionality and designs before you invest in development. SOMETIMES there is a huge disconnect between the people who make a product and the people who use it. Usability testing is vital to uncovering the areas where these disconnects happen. In this symposium you will learn the steps to conduct a successful usability test. This includes tips and real life examples on how to plan the tests, recruit users, facilitate the sessions, analyze the data, and communicate the results.
Are you looking to gather insights from your potential customers? When it comes to your prospects, do you really know what they want? Many startup teams tell us they are missing the key information they need to get into their users' mind. Without this information, the products often fall short of delighting users.
There are those that believe that user research and usability testing must be a complex and scientific process that takes lots of time, money, and resources. However, in the real world, most startups don't have the luxury to spend weeks or months on their user research. That's where guerrilla research techniques come into play.
This was a 4-hour workshop that was given at World Usability Day Colombia. #wudco14

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
