This project is based on the topic Dye- Sensitised Solar Cells where the students fabricate an artificial photosynthetic device using nanotechnology and plant pigments to capture sun energy and convert it to electricity. They are challenged to create the most efficient dye-sensitized solar cell, using vegetable and fruit dyes, in order to power an electric device.
Their product is a Rescue Fan , a fan powered by the DSSC's , which is mainly focused to prevent excessive temperature in pastures thereby protecting animals from harm.

Photosynthesis is also used by algae to convert solar energy into chemical energy. Oxygen is liberated as a by-product and light is considered as a major factor to complete the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis occurs when plants use light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. Leaves contain microscopic cellular organelles known as chloroplasts.
Each chloroplast contains a green-coloured pigment called chlorophyll. Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll molecules whereas carbon dioxide and oxygen enter through the tiny pores of stomata located in the epidermis of leaves.
Another by-product of photosynthesis is sugars such as glucose and fructose.
These sugars are then sent to the roots, stems, leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds. In other words, these sugars are used by the plants as an energy source, which helps them to grow. These sugar molecules then combine with each other to form more complex carbohydrates like cellulose and starch. The cellulose is considered as the structural material that is used in plant cell walls.

Where Does This Process Occur?
Chloroplasts are the sites of photosynthesis in plants and blue-green algae. All green parts of a plant, including the green stems, green leaves, and sepals – floral parts comprise of chloroplasts – green colour plastids. Indoor planting or better known as indoor farming has become more widely used method as it is able to provide higher yields throughout the year. Currently most of the developed country the shortage of land for agriculture and the time is a major factor effecting agriculture sector, it is a global trend. In this technique, one of the most important things is the use of artificial light sources to replace the sun at indoor environment. Although there is still no such light that capable of replacing the sun completely, but sometimes the Artificial Light provides better results. The use of artificial light in plant cultivation was first began in 1868 by a Russian botanist Andrei Famintsyn. The use of artificial light changes according to current technology from time to time. The results of previous studies showed similar outcome that were relied on the capabilities of existing equipment at that time. In this study, three different LED color lights, 18W and a fluorescent lamp, 36W were used. The height or growth of the salad plant was taken for 6 weeks period. At the end of the study, the height of the salad plant in the red LED lamp is as high as 10.9cm, followed by the Blue, White and Yellow Lights, 7.41cm, 7.6cm and 5.23cm. From the studies it shows different color lights create an impact on the height growth of a plant or vegetable. This study is useful for researchers that focus on indoor farming using artificial light as a source of sunlight.Energy Flow In An Ecosystem

- 4. Summary of activities Activity 1: light and their spectra -We built spectroscope to analyze spectrum of different light source. Activity 2: Observing diffraction -We observed diffraction of waves through variety of mediums such as water waves.
- 5. Summary of activities Activity 3: Observing Interference Interference is the effect of two or more waves moving through the same place at the same time. Activity 4: Observing Iridescence There are two main types of structures that create the colors observed in Iridescence: 1- Thin Film interference. 2- Surface structure.
- 7. Glowing Pot Introduction The importance of plants to humans and just about all other life on Earth is stunning: • Plants supply food to nearly all organisms, including humans. We eat either plants or other organisms that eat plants. • Plants maintain the atmosphere. They produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. Oxygen is essential for cellular respiration for all aerobic organisms. • Plants provide many products for human use, such as firewood, timber, fibers, medicines, dyes, pesticides, oils, and rubber. • Plants create habitats for many organisms. A single tree may provide food and shelter to many species of insects, worms, small mammals, birds, and reptiles
- 8. Glowing Pot Aim of the project • To facilitate growing plant at home by using light to build glowing pot to indicate timing to irrigate the plants.
- 10. Material needed are: 1- Acrylic sheets 2- LED Lamp 3- Battery 4- Wires
- 11. 1- we used acrylic sheet to build the plant pot 2- we used sculpt the acrylic sheet with design in order for the light to reflect through it. 3- we designed electric circuit for the plant and connect it with plant pot.
- 12. • when the soil becomes dry the light will turn off indicating the need to water the plant. • This will help in the irrigation process and will help indicating the right time needed to water the soil.
- 13. Glowing Pot Recommendations: ()التوصيات We recommend more research to be done in this project to enhance it more also we recommend the following: 1- insert alarm to the pot 2- Upgrade the circuit to indicate the level of the water in the soil
- 14. Conclusions Plants are really important to our lives that why we need to facilitate agriculture process so everyone can plant easily, we hope through our project we achieved that
