This study made use of descriptive survey type of
research. The research instruments used in the gathering
of data was a survey questionnaire composed of: students’
profile, teachers’ profile and the National Achievement
Test (NAT) for school years 2011-2012 to 2013-2014 results
of Grade 6 pupils in Mathematics. The questionnaires were
reproduced and distributed to 523 Grade 6 pupils and 11
Mathematics teachers in the District of Valladolid,
Division of Negros Occidental.
The responses gathered were classified, tabulated and
analyzed using frequency and percentage distribution, mode,
mean, chi-square test and F-test for descriptive statistics.
118
In the analysis of the data, the level of National
Achievement Test (NAT) for school years 2011-2012 to 2013-
2014 results of Grade 6 pupils in Mathematics, students’
profile such; gender, economic status, study habit,
attitude towards Mathematics and technological influence;
and teachers’ profile such as gender, educational
qualifications, length of service, seminars and trainings
attended, and styles and strategies in teaching Mathematics,
frequency and percent distribution, and weighted mean were
used.
In determining the significant difference between in
the National Achievement Test (NAT) for school years 2011-
2012 to 2013-2014 results of Grade 6 pupils in Mathematics
in the District of Valladolid, Division of Negros
Occidental, F- test and Scheffe’s test of variance were
used.
In determining the significant relationship of
National Achievement Test (NAT) for school years 2011-2012
to 2013-2014 results of Grade 6 pupils in Mathematics in
the District of Valladolid, Division of Negros Occidental;
students’ profile such gender, economic status, study habit
and attitude towards Mathematics; teachers’ profile such
teachers’ profile for seminars and trainings attended, mode
was used and teachers’ profile such teachers’ profile such
119
as gender, and educational qualifications, length of
service, the chi- square test of significance was used.

Recommendations
Based on the findings of the study and the conclusions
formulated, the following recommendations are hereby
forwarded:
1. That Schools head would help support programs like
MTAP Review and Math Quiz Bee in Mathematics, make use
of the National Achievement Test results in keeping
126
track of the Achievement levels of low performing
schools.
2. That Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics will
encourage more Mathematics teachers in low performing
schools to attend seminars, trainings and workshops in
Mathematics like Modern mathematics for it is very
much a collaborative activity rather than an
individual one, strengthen training programs that
would enhance the teaching skills and strategies and
for professional development. To encourage
benchmarking in schools with highest NAT performance.
3. That Guidance counselors will provide support to
introduce new practices and programs to improve the
attitude of students in learning Mathematics in order
to achieve desired results in the National Achievement
Test performance for the low performing schools.
4. That Mathematics teachers will improve their approach
in teaching Mathematics using media and other
educational technologies to awaken their interest in
Mathematics and provide Instructional materials and
equipment to enhance their teaching. They should
enroll in the graduate school and attended seminars
127
and trainings to enhance their competency in teaching
Mathematics.
5. That Mathematics teachers will provide pupils with a
venue to hone pupils’ mathematical skills in an
atmosphere of friendly competition like MTAP
challenge, Math Quiz Bee and other related activity.
6. That parents will give moral support and close
monitoring on the activities of their children with
peers or friends.
7. That more pupils will enroll in the Metrobank
Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the Mathematics
Teachers Association of the Philippines and the
Department of Education so low performing schools can
enhance their mathematical skills. They should
develop positive attitude towards Mathematics and
improve their study habits. They should improve their
knowledge and skills in learning Mathematics with the
use of technologies.
8. That future researchers would continue to conduct
researches pertaining to academic performance of
pupils in the field of Mathematics. Through research
and investigation, school administrators will be
128
provided with information and data as basis for
planning and developing school programs to achieve and
improve performance of their constituents.

  • 1. Chapter 5 SUMMARY, FINDINGS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS This chapter presents the summary of the study pointing out the important findings with its conclusions and recommendations. Summary This study determined the relationship of National Achievement Test performance of Grade 6 pupils in Mathematics in the District of Valladolid, Division of Negros Occidental from School Year 2011–2012 to 2013-2014.
