provides information that organizations need to
manage themselves efficiently and effectively.
• Management information systems are not only
computer systems.
• Three primary components:
– Technology
– people (individuals, groups, or organizations)
– data (information for decision making).
• A management information system gives the
business managers the information that they
need to take decisions.
• Produce fixed, regularly scheduled reports based
on data extracted and summarized from the
firm’s underlying transaction processing systems
to middle and operational level managers.
• Used to identify and inform decision problems.
