Comparison Of Bluffing And The Painted Door
Often times in relationships people tend to drift apart from each other due to their inability to be
committed to each other for an extended period of time. Liam and Gabriella from the short story
Bluffing by Gail Helgason demonstrate their incompetence to maintain a full commitment to one
another, which results in Gabriella realizing that her relationship with Liam has come to a fork in
the road. Liam has to choose between her, and his hiking career. Whereas John and Ann from the
short storyThe Painted Door by Sinclair Ross exhibit their ability to stay together as well as be
understanding, truthful, and communicative with one another. They have all the fundamental keys
to a healthy relationship.

John and Ann are able to display this through their thoughts and actions. For instance, John was
being truthful when he told Ann that he would come home through the terrible storm. Before
they were married no matter how [hard] it stormed, [he came] twice a week...[he] never missed
(Ross 226). This exemplifies the fact that John was being truthful when he told Ann that he
would come home to her whether she believed him or not. Ann was being truthful about how she
felt after she had an affair with Steven. She realized that she made a terrible mistake and she
would try and make amends (243) with John. Before Ann slept with Steven she felt lonely and
desperate for more companionship, but afterwards it was clear that she knew now John was the
man(243) that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Although John and Ann are able to
be truthful to each other, Liam and Gabriella have trouble with the task. For instance, when
Gabriella proposed the idea of a hike she camouflaged her true intentions. She wanted to talk to
Liam about the lease, so she d called it one last outing before the snow comes (Helgason 1). She
wanted to make him realize that he has great terrain for hiking right where he is, and that they have
a life in Jasper. Because of her insecurities, she wanted to make certain that he was not going to
leave. Also, Gabriella was not truthful about

How Did Alexander The Great Impact Greek Culture
The Impact of Greek culture during the Hellenistic period. The definition of Hellenistic is
imitating Greece. The Hellenistic Period is known as the Time after Alexander the great spread
Greek culture to the eastern region and blended with the native culture. The Name Alexander
the great is derived from the great amount of accomplishments and military dominance that he
displayed during his life. However, some historians describe him as more of a ruthless warlord.
Those who see Alexander as aspiring autocratic monarchy present a very different portrait of him
as a ruthless Machiavellian. One has titled his biography Alexander the Great Failure.
(Spielvogel 94) Alexander s Father was king Phillip II who ruled Macedonia and after being a
prisoner in Thebes developed an understanding and admiration for Greek military and tactics.
Once he was able to return to Macedonia he quickly developed a standing army from the
strongest men his country had to offer. It was with this powerful army that he was able to
conquer Greece and take control of the entire Greek peninsula. Once Alexander was 20 his father
was assassinated and he had to quickly take power and establish, he did this by conquering the city
of Thebes where a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Physical education, and literature. The majority of schools were for everyone but there where

advances. The Hellenistic era was a period of considerable cultural accomplishment in many fields
literature, art, science, medicine, and philosophy. (Spielvogel 101) The library at Alexandria is

learning. During this period literature saw a huge increase. Unfortunately, most writings from this

Dream Interpretation Essay
Scholars are not sure where or when the origins of dream interpretation began or how long
dream analysis has been carried out. It is probably a good bet that the interpretation and analysis
of people s dreams has been part of society in one form or another as long as we have been having
dreams. Early man must have found dreams to be both frightening and fascinating and must have
been confused by this bizarre manner of consciousness. It is clear that many ancient civilizations
placed great significance on the events occurring in dreams as well as the possible meaning of
these dreamstate events. These interpretations were used to help shed light on the events that
occurred in their waking lives. This paper briefly reviews the history of dream interpretation, from
early civilizations to psychological theories to modern biologically oriented theories. Information
about early dream interpretation comes from several different sources:
Mesopotamia
The people of Mesopotamian (now Iraq) left behind some of the earliest pictographic writings
dating back to approximately 3100 B.C. (Oppenheim, 1956). By 2700 B.C. they also used a
cuneiform writing type consisting of marks on clay tablets and cylinders. It is in these writings
that the earliest recorded notions of dream interpretations occur. The king Gudea, who ruled
around 2220 B.C., had several dreams preserved that tell the story of a puzzling dream he had and
his quest using a goddess s help to understand its meaning. This is one

The Effects Of Dyslexia On Children With Dyslexia
There is no doubt that reading and writing are vital in today s society. Without basic
comprehension skills you simply cannot become educated let alone survive. It was a common
belief that anyone who wanted to read, or to learn to read, would be able to, right? With Dyslexia,
that is not the case. Dyslexia is described as the difficulty to comprehend language through reading
and writing, despite a normal level of intelligence. Dyslexiais not only the most common learning
disability, but is also highly recognized. There are three proposed distinctions within dyslexia that
includes auditory, visual, and attentional. Understanding dyslexia would help the educational
community as long as the medical community. Although the scientific community has extensive
research on Dyslexia, there are still neurological aspects to consider and to learn about. Dyslexia
is a complex disability that has interested physicians for centuries. Students with dyslexia should
not be overlooked and deserve equal opportunities in the classroom. Dyslexia was distinguished in
the late 19th century by an ophthalmologist. He coined the term because a child showed much
impairment while trying to learn to read, even with normal physical and intelligence. It was first
known as congenital word blindness by British physicians. They were confused when a child came
to them and was a very smart among his classmates, yet did not know how to read. It was further
concluded by Castles and Coltheart that there are

The American Revolution And American History
In the year 1765 the American colonists in the thirteen colonists had an upheaval with Great
Britain. The colonists were tired of British Parliament s rules and taxes that Parliament was placing
on imported goods; such as tea. Historians believe that the beginning point in American History
really started with the American Revolution. Britain was trying to force their culture onto the
colonists. However, the colonist wanted no part in changing their whole cultural background that
they created to the cultural background of Britain. The American Revolution was a one of the
biggest revolutions in American history. Based on what we learned from class discussion on
social, cultural, economic, and political changes there was a lot of revolution happening in the
American Revolution. The American Revolution stated in the year 1765 when the thirteen
American colonies declined the British monarch. Britain started to places taxes on the colonies
and the colonies were tired of all the taxes that were being placed. The first tax that British
Parliament enforced on the colonists was the Sugar Act. On April 5, 1764, Parliament passed a
modified version of the Sugar and Molasses Act. Parliament passed the Sugar Act because the
Sugar and Molasses Act was set to expire shortly. The colonists revolted by not buying anymore
sugar or molasses produced by Britain and only purchased sugar and molasses produced by France.
Each gallon of molasses had a six pence tax on it. Back in the 1700s

Meat, China, And Communication Revolutions
Meat, China, and Communication Revolutions In Armand Mattelart s book The Invention of
Communication, the word communication is acknowledged as term with a great number of
meanings. However, Mattelart proposes that communication could be specifically understood as
circuits of circulation of goods, people, and messages (Mattelart xiv). This definition is critical to
the thesis of this paper, because it alludes to industry being an essential component of
communication. This paper will explore two specific industries: the meat packing industryof the late
19th centuryand the exportation of consumer goods from contemporary China. I will argue that
these are both examples of communication revolutions due to their innate ability to cause... Show

First, let s consider Gustavus Swift and his meat packing company, and how everything from the
invention of the refrigerated rail cart, to becoming one of the first companies to utilize vertical
integration exemplifies communication revolution. As Professor Gary Fields explains in an
essay about communication and G. F. Swift, before the late 19th century, meat was a localized
affair in which few Americans participated. In order for local butchers to get their meat,
shipments of live cattle would come from the midwest. This was incredibly inefficient, as not all
of the cow was edible. The cost of shipping was high, so the butcher would have to charge a pretty
penny for the final cut of meat. Due to both the cost and lack of advertisement of beef, public
interest in meat was low.
In comes Gustavus Franklin Swift, an entrepreneur who realized the potential in meat packing, and
helped fund the invention of the refrigerated rail cart. This technological wonder allowed cattle to
be butchered first, and then have the meat shipped over long distances. This eliminated any
unnecessary waste from being shipped, which meant money was saved and the company could
charge consumers less than local butchers. In 1880, Swift had one cattle supplier, one

Visual Distraction Essay
Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans
Abstract
This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times
in adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre
motor time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving
as we believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question,
we will collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results.
Our results will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for
gaining knowledge in this area.
This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which
result from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a
fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan,
Culler et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio,
Driscoll et al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go
into specific details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically
the effects of visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals.
A study performed in Great Britain states significant amount of deaths occur yearly which are

was persistent in knocking until he thought he heard someone say come in (526). He finds Mrs.
Wright sitting in a rocking chair rockin back and forth (526). When he asks to speak with her
husband, Mrs. Wright says that he cannot speak with Mr. Hale cause he s dead (526). When he

I haven t even went to the bathroom today . Missy would have been literally laughing so hard
just because Missy would have just came out and said this by joking with her and her not being
serious about it. But we can also have conversations about business for example the other day we

The Effects Of Technology On The Environment
While it may be evident that technology is altering many aspects of life, increasing amounts of
evidence declare that technology benefits us. While the author s argument makes excellent points,
they believe technology is negatively effecting people s lives. The author demonstrates competence
but lacks rigid evidencedefending his opinionated reasoning. The written article therefore provides
little effectto believing their cause. The author begins their argument by stating information about
an individual who has done countless studies on how learning and technology coexist. However,
the research stated is offered little background. It leads the reader to believe that the studies
unquestionably proved negative effects of technology effecting learning behavior. The author
declares that the studies were on individual classrooms, this leads to many questions on how
accurate and reliable the results were, when looking at a widespread audience. The author fails to
consider the abundance of benefits technology invokes on the environment. In the article the author
states, Multiple studies of violent media games have shown that they can produce many negative
effects, including aggressive behavior (Greenfield 3). While at first glance the reader might not
question the authenticity of that quote, there has been an over abundance of evidence proving how
incorrect it is. Since technology started becoming a keen part of everyday lives, there has been

Mike Lukaich is the author of a political cartoon published on September 11, 2015, and is found

Trump and the Republican Party. It mimics the movie Star Wars in the sense that Donald Trump
is drawn as the villain, Darth Vader, and the elephant, or Republican party, is seen as Luke

dressed in black from head to toe in this drawling, except his name is in gold going down his chest.

Since Donald Trump is drawn as Darth Vader you can infer that Donald Trump is seen as the
enemy by the Republican s eyes. The Republican party is often symbolized by an elephant. In
this political cartoon the elephant is seen hanging off the edge while Darth Vader is standing

just said to it while it is hanging off the cliff. The elephant dressed normally symbolizes that
Donald Trump is not someone normal people want to be their front runner. In the movie Star Wars:

India and China lightly. Silvio sees this development as fundamentally re defining the region and

Polio Is An Incapacitating And Potentially Fatal...
What is Polio? Poliomyelitis, commonly referred to as Polio, is an incapacitating and potentially
fatal, infectious virus. Although it is rare to see someone suffering from the disease, in some
countries, such as Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the virus still exists. (Kids Health 1)
Before the first vaccine was created, Polio was a threat to all Americans across the nation. The
dangerous virus attacked people from all age ranges and left permanent damage on all of its
victims. Luckily, at the peak of its devastation, a man named Jonas Salk created a vaccine against
this catastrophic virus. This vaccine not only marked the downfall of Polio in the United States, but
in a majority of nations throughout the world as well.
Poliovirus first enters the human body through the mouth. Next, the virus resides in either the
person s throat or intestines. For the virus to spread, it would have to be transmitted via feces and
/or by the droplets of an infected individual. (Kids Health 1) Only human beings can be affected by
the poliovirus. (Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention 2)
Signs and symptoms of Poliomyelitis include: fever, sore throat, headache, vomiting, fatigue, back
pain or stiffness, neck pain or stiffness, pain or stiffness in the arms or legs, muscle weakness or
tenderness, and meningitis. (Mayo Clinic 2) But, even if an individual does not possess any of the
common signs or symptoms of Polio, the individual can still have poliovirus in them and could

Negative Effects Of Solar Eclipses
With the impending solar eclipse set to darken the skies briefly on Monday afternoon, physicians
across the country are preparing to treat cases of optical damage caused by glaring at the dark sun.
Unfortunately, many people believe that because the sun is blocked, it blocks the harmful
ultraviolet rays from reaching one s eyes, but that is not the case. Assistant professor in the
University of Alabama at Birmingham, Tamara S. Oechslin, explains it is never safe to stare
directly into the sun, and that includes during the eclipse(Janarthanan). But, these eclipses have
been occurring for thousands of years. In fact, the ancient Chinese believed that solar eclipses were
dragons devouring the sun (NASA). Obviously, the general population has come to a much stronger
understanding of what a solar eclipseentails, but they do not necessarily follow guidance related
to viewing the eclipse. In 1999, a solar eclipse occurred and several thousand people rang
helplines or attended special eclipse clinics (Dobson). However, the number of cases of solar
retinopathy than was widely feared (Dobson). Solar retinopathy is the damage caused by someone
looking at the sun with improper or no eye protection. The retina, the home of light sensing cells, is
then damaged by the harmful rays of the sun. Treatment to try and heal the effects of solar
retinopathy has proven ineffective (Dobson). Eyes are similar to the brain in terms of traumatic

Examples Of Foolishness In The Odyssey
In Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, the protagonist Odysseus is a mixture of twists and turns.
Undoubtedly, he displays tremendous cleverness. In fact, his unmatched shrewdness often results in
an unwise or foolish outcome. The poem encourages the reader to give up black and white
conclusions about the protagonist. In fact, categorizing acts of courage and foolishness is a
difficult task in The Odyssey. Odysseusadventures reveal a multifaceted character comprised of
wisdom and foolishness.
At the beginning of the poem, the goddess Athena encourages Zeus, the king of the gods, to
offer Odysseus special treatment. Zeus is more than amenable to reward Odysseus cleverness
and commitment. After all, Odysseus did design the Trojan horse plan that led to the Greeks
victory. The triumph was the precursor to all of the happenings of The Odyssey and a clear
example of unconventional intelligence. Another illustration of his resourcefulness is his strategy
to pierce Polyphemus eye while he is sleeping. Upon arousal the one eyed monster asks who
stabbed him and Odysseus replies cunningly that it is he or Nobody that did the evil deed.
Polyphemus beseeches his friends to help him, Nobody, friends. Nobody s killing me now by fraud
and not by force. (BOOK9) This creates much confusion and little resolution for Polyphemus. ...

The Role Of Police Women In Law Enforcement
The role of police women has come a long way since they were finally acknowledged into the field
of law enforcement. Nevertheless law enforcement still struggles to hire and retain female officers
for a number of reasons. There have been many guidelines put in place, but female officer s still
face discrimination that discourage them away or hinder their promotion opportunities. Police
departments are under major pressure from the public to hire more female officers. The
literature review shows a female officers struggle in gaining success in a male dominated career.
Law enforcement has been considered as a man s job and now that women have proven they are
capable of the job, police men are not as accepting. Research shows that police men s views on
women in the police force are resilient to the fact that women are able to perform all tasks of the
job. This paper will discuss what obstacles women have faced in the police role and also provide
recommendations to help hire and retain these female officers.
Literature Review
Sir Robert Peel is known for his achievement in passing the Metropolitan Police Act in 1829,
which led to the establishment of the first modern police force. He believed it should be defined
as a full time and uniformed officer with a main purpose of patrolling the city. He would only
select officers that fit a certain mold, which meant they had to be trained and disciplined. During
the creation of this police force, women were not permitted to take part. In the mid 1800 s is
when women were first actively employed into the police force. But even then they were given
administrative duties or assigned to specialized bureaus, mostly working with juveniles and
children. During the great depression there were huge changes on how employment was viewed,
because of this women s employment suffered. A married woman with a job was seen as
dishonorably taking away employment from a man trying to financially care for his family.
(Milton, 1972) By tradition, women were viewed as the caretaker of children and the role of
taking care of the house while the man is to be the main source of income.

The Consumer Culture Of The 1920s
The 1920s was a decade filled with prosperity, chaos, and excitement. During the 1920s, many
ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the
television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape
America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in
American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an
important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The
decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as
demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of
long standing morals.
The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as
shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when
Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed,
her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful
shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the
consumer culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during
the 1920s, the economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families
with a newfound disposable income.

Non Farming Regulations
I have always lived on or around farms or some sort of agriculture. My family s heritage is made
up of small town American farmers who emigrated from Germany in the early to mid 1800s to
start a new life. The farm of my fourth great grandparents is still being used today and it still plays
an important role in our agriculturally strong society. Certain regulations can hurt farmers all over
the country, enacting crippling problems and expenses on farms. Over the past three summers I
have worked on farms near my hometown. I have seen first hand how rules and regulations can
affect a farmand the production of products that farmers use to make a living. Some of the time,
farmers have it rough. I have even noticed some rules that are a little... Show more content on

Christ Birth Research Paper
Christmas is arguably the biggest holiday in the western world. It is the holiday that brings forth
the spirt of joy, giving s and love. Christmas is also the year that brings forth remembrance of
Jesus Christ s birth. However, the nativity story, the story of Christ birth, has much more meaning
to it then what people reflect on it as. When the Nativity story is told it seems the main focus or the
happy ending is always the savior birth. That arguably is not what the Bible fully attended the focus
to remain on. The Nativity story is more than just a story about Christbirth; it is a metaphor that
paints the picture of the two people s faith in God and ultimately the gospel in a nutshell. Many

Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a
tarnished reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when
considering the risk Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk
Mary had taken was the endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a
women failed to remain physically pure before marriage she would be brought to the door of her
father s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath
wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father s house: so shalt thou put evil away from
among you. And if the women was betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and
lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them
with stones that they die. Again, Mary knew the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but
a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns people. The possibility of Joseph and the
towns people believing that Mary, a poor servant, miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit
is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral
relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane
when He prayed, not my will, but thine, be done. Regardless,

Dealing with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
I hurt...Over the many year s now of dealing with the disease commonly referred to today as
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), this simple yet weighted term of I hurt has become
imprinted upon my brain. This term has also become synonymous in describing how I feel to
every physician, family member, and friend, when describing the chief symptom with CRPS.
What is also troubling, is all the additional place s I hurt now since being diagnosed with this
disease. The paragraph above is intentionally wrote in the first person, however, it never states
whom the I or character is and at any other time would be slanted for poor grammar. Here being
the I in the first paragraph, in this case, can stand for anyone diagnosed with CRPS, as well as,
the undiagnosed. People in the undiagnosed category is where a lot of misery abides, they are
telling everyone they hurt yet get no relief. This is a sad category because a lot of it lies in the
face of false hood. Doctor s and family do not believe you. You might have no other symptom than
pain, and then, you get slapped with drug seeking behavior. I shutter and cringe as to how many
undiagnosed cases of CRPS take place every year just in the United States. There is also a
middle category to this conundrum, whereby, your given the title of CRPS, however, your not
fully diagnosed per se or the diagnosis of CRPS is not recognized, understood, or believed to be the
case by other physician s. This nice little slice of heaven is where

The abuse and exploitation of youth, is not, in any way, a new concept in the world that we live in,
however it is extremely misrepresented. Authors, Karen Countryman Roswurm, assistant professor

director of the School of Social Work, are PhD holding alumni of Wichita State University and have
offered insight on the topic of human trafficking, ranging from its causation, misrepresentation and
its effect on youth. Human trafficking, which involves the recruitment, harboring, transportation,

they themselves have been victimized, it is first necessary to define who the minors are
(Countryman Roswurm Bolin, 2014, p. 522). According to Countryman Roswurm and Bolin
(2014), there is an overlapping classification of a minor by only 1 year, some believing that it
defines an individual younger than the age of eighteen, others claiming that age nineteen is
technically a teen, therefore, also a minor (p. 524). Subsequently, Countryman Roswurm and Bolin
(2014) acknowledged the meanings of prostitution and sex trafficking as sexual relations that
include some form of monetary payment or barter and are characterized by promiscuity and/or
emotional apathy; sexual relations and a type of violence (including verbal, emotional, physical,
and sexual abuse) against children and youth which may include coerced or forced sexual acts in
exchange for, or the promise of, money, drugs, food, clothing, shelter, or other survival needs. It is
a transaction in which the body of a child and/or youth is treated as a commodity, respectively (p.

done through understanding the individual involved in the act, rather than unreliable definitions

How The And Start Right From The Beginning Here Essay
I m going to try and start right from the beginning here. When we think of data communication
nowadays, we think of digital information. We live in a world where technology is so abundant,
that we couldn t possibly imagine what life would be like without it. I m not talking about having to
write letters, or use the telephone exchange, I m talking about the beginning. Before there was data
communication, there was simply communication. So much about our evolution is unknown, that
we can t simply piece together the entire history of communication, but we as humans today do
have a brief understanding of how our species learnt to communicate, and how this has shaped our
world today. One of the first methods of communication (besides verbal) was paintings. Painting (or
drawing in general) is one of the earliest methods of communication, and is still very prominent to
this day. The act of turning thoughts or ideas into a physical representation develops in humans at a
very young age, and is the main form of communication used by babies up until they can speak. In
my person opinion, painting isn t a the best form of communication today, as writingis far easier to
understand. Painting is useful if you wish to convey your ideas through the use of metaphors, but
the practicality of using it today as a direct method of communication is limited. The next big
advancement in communication was the development of writing. Writing was developed in two
stages. The first forms of writing were

Argumentative Essay On Indiana House Elections
With the 2016 general election coming up, the citizens of Indiana will be electing their members
of Congress to represent the state and its districts. The Indiana Senate race that has received a lot
of attention is the race between Todd Young and Evan Bayh. An Indiana House race that has been
receiving a lot of attention is the District 9 race between Shelli Yoder and Trey Hollingsworth.
When analyzing these races, a wide variety of factors, such as demographics, money, and scandals
should to be taken into consideration. In terms of the Senate race in Indiana, there have been
fourteen shifts in party power in that particular seat over time (Ballotpedia). But in general, Indiana
has been a Republican leaning state throughout much of its history. In 2004, Evan Bayh(D) was
elected to the Indiana Senate. In 2010, Dan Coats (R) was elected to the seat. In the very next
election, Joe Donnelly (D) took over the seat. Dan Coats retook the seat in 2014 and is now
stepping down to make room for either Evan Bayh (D) or Todd Young (R) (Indiana Secretary of
State).
Evan Bayh originally had a six to seven point lead over Todd Young in the polls, but policy issues
played a part in negating that lead (Monmouth). For example, on the issue of ... Show more content

I Watched A Fair Amount Of Television
Growing up, I watched a fair amount of television. Being the late 1990s and early 2000s, some of
my favorites included Sesame Street, The Rugrats, Veggie Tales, and Little Bill. All of which,
starred mostly male characters. At the time, I didn t think much of it; it made sense for boys to be
the stars. All of my teddy bears had boynames, the genderneutral characters in my books were boys,
and I even called my femalecat a boy. It wasn t until later when I became more educated on gender
inequality and stereotypes that I noticed the problem on television and in other aspects of my
childhood that affected the way that I thought.
In 1991, Katha Pollitt, a poet and essayist, published Hers; The Smurfette Principle. She starts
her essay off by telling the readers about her personal experience raising a daughter in a male
dominated world. Pollitt mentions how she struggled with finding a children s movie starring a
female with more than just a nice figure, a pretty face, and a damsel in distress personality to
give to her daughter for Christmas. She finally chose Disney s The Little Mermaid . Ariel, despite
looking like the stereotypical princess, is brave, determined, and the hero of her own story unlike
most Disney princesses. Pollitt considered Ariel role model material for her preschool age daughter
and other young girls alike. Pollitt claims that television networks, movies, and books that are
mostly male dominant send negative messages to the developing mind of

Ocean Acidification Impacts
Introduction
The potential impacts of ocean acidification pose several threats on marine organisms and
ecosystem processes. Many marine species are sensitive to changes in ocean. The effects of
acidification on individual species will have ripple effects throughout the ecosystem. So, species
that might not be directly affected by acidification may still be influenced by ocean acidification
if their predators or prey are affected by changes in water chemistry. These food web interactions
are difficult to predict, and may play out in unexpected ways. Acidification s potential effects on
marine ecosystems are an economic concern as well. These issues need to be addressed because
they are all issues today, not the future. Ocean acidification may also be threatening not only
marine life but our own way of life as humans. Although ocean acidification may not directly
impact specific organisms, it s impact will have a ripple effect that is felt in our own ecosystem we
live in today. Threatening the health of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparing these options has led to classifying them, in a qualitative way, according to their

unavoidable acidification. Although the existing legal basis to take action shows few gaps, policy
challenges are significant: tackling them will mean succeeding in various areas of environmental

Evaluate two models of one cognitive process
Cecilia Nguyen Evaluate two models of one cognitive process This essay will be discussing one
particular cognitive process: the memory by evaluating two models, which are the Multi store
model introduced by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and the Working memory model by Baddeley
and Hitch in 1974. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and
Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. According to this
model, memory consists of three types of memory stores: sensory stores, short term store and long
term store. Sensory stores consist of the eyes, nose, fingers, tongue, etc and the corresponding area
of the brain. The sensory stores... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The visuo spatial sketchpad when planned a spatial task and it saves memory temporarily. The
episodic buffer is the general store, it integrates info from the central executive, the phonological
loop and the visuo spatial sketchpad and forms long term store. Research evidence for the
working model of memory varies. Case studies of brain damaged patients support this model a
lot. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but
some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of
memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store.
In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making
participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central
executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the
articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra
task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also
suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though
the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses.
For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more research. Also there were

Macbeth s Order Of The Universe
Salma Bora
Mrs.Gritte
Pre AP English I
09 March 2017 Macbeth s Order of the Universe
Elizabethan ideologies are based on the Great Chain of Being . The people believe that in an
ordered universe, everything is ranked in order of their superiority. This order coincides with all
religious beliefs as well as the political system. All inhabitants of earth are ranked in the
following order: God, angels, king, man, animals, plants, inorganic material, and lastly, chaos. The
king is similar to a God on earth, so any ill willed acts against the king is a direct attack on God. In
The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, there is a breakdown of order throughout
Scotland when Macbeth kills King Duncan. This destruction is ... Show more content on

However, just by wanting to become more manly when she was meant to be a woman by God,
Lady Macbeth is affecting the order of the universe even before the murder even takes place. You
lack the season of all natures, sleep (3.4.140). Sleeping is essential for maintaining health, but since
Macbeth committed unnatural acts of murder against the innocent, his health, along with mentality,
is at a risky state a curse from nature itself all caused by disrupted sleep. Not only is his crime
evident in the order of the universe, but also with his internal order.
The killing of Duncan leads to a very bizarre switch in roles within nature. A falcon, tow ring in
her pride of place,/Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed, (2.4.13 14). This reversal brings
discomfort, since even the animal kingdom is starting to be affected by the unravelling of chaos.
An even worse example, King Duncan s horses, Beauteous and swift, the minions of their race,
/Turn d wild in nature, broke their stalls, flung out,/War with mankind. (2.4.15 16,18). There is
nothing a king trusts more than his valiant steed, and similarly both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
were trusted vassals of King Duncan, who was oblivious of their traitorous nature. However, even
the most trusty steed can turn his back on his master upon smelling the faintest scent of fear. Thus,
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s thirst for power filled to the extent where they were willing to
overthrow their master.

The Pricing Strategy Of T Shirts
This type of pricing gives customers a good deal and encourages them to buy more which saves
on packaging in which seller gives quantity discount. In this case the bundle of 5 T shirts s priced
lower than the sum of the price of individual T shirt. This type of pricing is based on the demand
schedule where customers may have high willingness to pay for T shirt but not for 5 T shirts, and
the pricingdiscount is to match customer willingness to pay. 5 T shirts are packed for one price
using a bundling pricing which is a second degree price discrimination that used to extract
consumer surplus. This is an example of a promotional bundle in the mixed bundling category in
which the bundled price of the 5 Tshirt is lower than the total price of individual product price
added together. The consumers have the choice of buying packs of 5 T shirts or buying a T shirt
without the pack. In this pricing strategy identical T shirts are packaged together in order to
enhance profits by forcing customers to make an all decision. The mixed bundling pricing
provides a means by which the company can get the consumer to pay the full value of the 5 units
of packaging 5 T shirt a product and selling them as one package, the company can earn more than
selling per T shirt price. The profit maximizing price is the 5 T shirt for $10 on a pack is the total
value the consumer receives for the package, including consumer surplus and business could
enhance profits even consumers have identical demands.

straight growth and the broth growth was uniform fine turbidity. Uniform fine turbidity means
there is cloudy growth throughout the test tube. As time progressed the broth appeared clear with
some sediment. This could suggest that the bacterium is a slow grower or that the cells are older
and dying. This can affect the results of testing. We did to place an agar slant and broth tube in the
incubator for 48 hours at 25 degrees Celsiusto see if the temperatureaffects the growth. The agar
slant looked the same as agar slant that was grown at 37 degrees Celsius. The broth that was
incubated for 48 hours at 25 degrees Celsius did suggest that it was able to grow better at this
temperature being the growth in tube with the thick white clunks floating throughout and the
uniform fine turbidity. All of the biochemical testing on this unknown was done at 37 degrees
Celsius except when checking growth at 25 degree Celsius. The unknown showed a negative result
citrate test. This means the unknown doesn t use citrate as its sole carbon source for energy. The
thiogycollate test with unknown resulted with the growth within the band and below it. The
unknown is a facultative anaerobe which means it will grow with or without the presence of
oxygen. The growth would be better in the presence of

The Hellenistic Period is known as the Time after Alexander the great spread Greek culture to the eastern region and blended with the native culture. The Name Alexander the great is derived from the great amount of accomplishments and military dominance that he displayed during his life. However, some historians describe him as more of a ruthless warlord. Those who see Alexander as aspiring autocratic monarchy present a very different portrait of him as a ruthless Machiavellian. One has titled his biography Alexander the Great Failure. (Spielvogel 94) Alexander s Father was king Phillip II who ruled Macedonia and after being a prisoner in Thebes developed an understanding and admiration for Greek military and tactics. Once he was able to return to Macedonia he quickly developed a standing army from the strongest men his country had to offer. • 6. Dream Interpretation Essay Scholars are not sure where or when the origins of dream interpretation began or how long dream analysis has been carried out. It is probably a good bet that the interpretation and analysis of people s dreams has been part of society in one form or another as long as we have been having dreams. Early man must have found dreams to be both frightening and fascinating and must have been confused by this bizarre manner of consciousness. It is clear that many ancient civilizations placed great significance on the events occurring in dreams as well as the possible meaning of these dreamstate events. These interpretations were used to help shed light on the events that occurred in their waking lives. This paper briefly reviews the history of dream interpretation, from early civilizations to psychological theories to modern biologically oriented theories. Information about early dream interpretation comes from several different sources: Mesopotamia The people of Mesopotamian (now Iraq) left behind some of the earliest pictographic writings dating back to approximately 3100 B.C. (Oppenheim, 1956). By 2700 B.C. they also used a cuneiform writing type consisting of marks on clay tablets and cylinders. It is in these writings that the earliest recorded notions of dream interpretations occur. The king Gudea, who ruled around 2220 B.C., had several dreams preserved that tell the story of a puzzling dream he had and his quest using a goddess s help to understand its meaning. This is one ... First, let s consider Gustavus Swift and his meat packing company, and how everything from the invention of the refrigerated rail cart, to becoming one of the first companies to utilize vertical integration exemplifies communication revolution. As Professor Gary Fields explains in an essay about communication and G. F. Swift, before the late 19th century, meat was a localized affair in which few Americans participated. In order for local butchers to get their meat, shipments of live cattle would come from the midwest. This was incredibly inefficient, as not all of the cow was edible. The cost of shipping was high, so the butcher would have to charge a pretty penny for the final cut of meat. Due to both the cost and lack of advertisement of beef, public interest in meat was low. In comes Gustavus Franklin Swift, an entrepreneur who realized the potential in meat packing, and helped fund the invention of the refrigerated rail cart. This technological wonder allowed cattle to be butchered first, and then have the meat shipped over long distances. This eliminated any unnecessary waste from being shipped, which meant money was saved and the company could charge consumers less than local butchers. In 1880, Swift had one cattle supplier, one ... Visual Distraction Essay Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans Abstract This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times in adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre motor time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving as we believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question, we will collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results. Our results will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for gaining knowledge in this area. This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which result from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan, Culler et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio, Driscoll et al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go into specific details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically the effects of visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals. Although it is rare to see someone suffering from the disease, in some countries, such as Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the virus still exists. (Kids Health 1) Before the first vaccine was created, Polio was a threat to all Americans across the nation. The dangerous virus attacked people from all age ranges and left permanent damage on all of its victims. Luckily, at the peak of its devastation, a man named Jonas Salk created a vaccine against this catastrophic virus. This vaccine not only marked the downfall of Polio in the United States, but in a majority of nations throughout the world as well. Poliovirus first enters the human body through the mouth. Next, the virus resides in either the person s throat or intestines. For the virus to spread, it would have to be transmitted via feces and /or by the droplets of an infected individual. This paper will discuss what obstacles women have faced in the police role and also provide recommendations to help hire and retain these female officers. Literature Review Sir Robert Peel is known for his achievement in passing the Metropolitan Police Act in 1829, which led to the establishment of the first modern police force. During the 1920s, many ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of long standing morals. The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the consumer culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during the 1920s, the economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families with a newfound disposable income. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christmas is also the year that brings forth remembrance of Jesus Christ s birth. However, the nativity story, the story of Christ birth, has much more meaning to it then what people reflect on it as. When the Nativity story is told it seems the main focus or the happy ending is always the savior birth. That arguably is not what the Bible fully attended the focus to remain on. Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a tarnished reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when considering the risk Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk Mary had taken was the endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a women failed to remain physically pure before marriage she would be brought to the door of her father s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. And if the women was betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die. Again, Mary knew the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns people. The possibility of Joseph and the towns people believing that Mary, a poor servant, miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane when He prayed, not my will, but thine, be done. Regardless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dealing with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome I hurt...Over the many year s now of dealing with the disease commonly referred to today as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), this simple yet weighted term of I hurt has become imprinted upon my brain. This term has also become synonymous in describing how I feel to every physician, family member, and friend, when describing the chief symptom with CRPS. What is also troubling, is all the additional place s I hurt now since being diagnosed with this disease. The paragraph above is intentionally wrote in the first person, however, it never states whom the I or character is and at any other time would be slanted for poor grammar. Here being the I in the first paragraph, in this case, can stand for anyone diagnosed with CRPS, as well as, the undiagnosed. People in the undiagnosed category is where a lot of misery abides, they are telling everyone they hurt yet get no relief. This is a sad category because a lot of it lies in the face of false hood. Doctor s and family do not believe you. You might have no other symptom than pain, and then, you get slapped with drug seeking behavior. I shutter and cringe as to how many undiagnosed cases of CRPS take place every year just in the United States. Before determining whether a minor is guilty of a delinquent crime such as prostitution, or if they themselves have been victimized, it is first necessary to define who the minors are (Countryman Roswurm Bolin, 2014, p. 522). According to Countryman Roswurm and Bolin (2014), there is an overlapping classification of a minor by only 1 year, some believing that it defines an individual younger than the age of eighteen, others claiming that age nineteen is technically a teen, therefore, also a minor (p. 524). Subsequently, Countryman Roswurm and Bolin (2014) acknowledged the meanings of prostitution and sex trafficking as sexual relations that include some form of monetary payment or barter and are characterized by promiscuity and/or emotional apathy; sexual relations and a type of violence (including verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse) against children and youth which may include coerced or forced sexual acts in exchange for, or the promise of, money, drugs, food, clothing, shelter, or other survival needs. We live in a world where technology is so abundant, that we couldn t possibly imagine what life would be like without it. I m not talking about having to write letters, or use the telephone exchange, I m talking about the beginning. Before there was data communication, there was simply communication. So much about our evolution is unknown, that we can t simply piece together the entire history of communication, but we as humans today do have a brief understanding of how our species learnt to communicate, and how this has shaped our world today. One of the first methods of communication (besides verbal) was paintings. Painting (or drawing in general) is one of the earliest methods of communication, and is still very prominent to this day. The act of turning thoughts or ideas into a physical representation develops in humans at a very young age, and is the main form of communication used by babies up until they can speak. In my person opinion, painting isn t a the best form of communication today, as writingis far easier to understand. Painting is useful if you wish to convey your ideas through the use of metaphors, but the practicality of using it today as a direct method of communication is limited. The next big advancement in communication was the development of writing. Writing was developed in two stages. The first forms of writing were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the very next election, Joe Donnelly (D) took over the seat. Dan Coats retook the seat in 2014 and is now stepping down to make room for either Evan Bayh (D) or Todd Young (R) (Indiana Secretary of State). Pollitt mentions how she struggled with finding a children s movie starring a female with more than just a nice figure, a pretty face, and a damsel in distress personality to give to her daughter for Christmas. She finally chose Disney s The Little Mermaid . Ariel, despite looking like the stereotypical princess, is brave, determined, and the hero of her own story unlike most Disney princesses. Many marine species are sensitive to changes in ocean. The effects of acidification on individual species will have ripple effects throughout the ecosystem. So, species that might not be directly affected by acidification may still be influenced by ocean acidification if their predators or prey are affected by changes in water chemistry. These food web interactions are difficult to predict, and may play out in unexpected ways. Acidification s potential effects on marine ecosystems are an economic concern as well. These issues need to be addressed because they are all issues today, not the future. Ocean acidification may also be threatening not only marine life but our own way of life as humans. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store. In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses. For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more research. Also there were problems with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
