This document discusses using sputtering deposition to fabricate metallic thin films and investigate how substrate temperature affects film structure and properties. The researchers reconditioned a vacuum system for sputtering aluminum and zinc films at different temperatures. They will analyze the films using microscopy and spectroscopy to compare structures to literature and reproduce previous results, validating the system. Understanding how temperature impacts film stability could enable design of ultra-stable amorphous coatings for wear applications.
