Presentation from the EURAXESS webinar "Making a career in (European) research institutions more attractive to the next generations" led by Gabriela Teodorescu from Valahia University of Targoviste, 28.05.2020
Andrzej Kurkiewicz: Good practices and polish experiences in promoting and s...CUBCCE Conference
The objective of the presentation is to share good practices in promoting and supporting entrepreneurship within higher education. It will also elaborate on actions which were taken by Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education to examine the progress of Polish higher education institutions (HEIs) towards becoming “entrepreneurial HEIs”, improving efficiency of transition from education to the labor market, increasing the usefulness of competences acquired by university graduates for the labor market, improving access to information about the graduates’ career paths in the labor market. Poland has been implementing the new graduate tracking system in order to get reliable and comparable data on graduates’ employment outcomes. It will be based on administrative data: matching database of graduates with anonymized data from the Social Insurance Institution focuses on transversal skills. Since 2014 Poland has been implementing the competency development programme which will support the training sessions and workshops aimed at increasing the skills and competences most relevant to the labour market, including entrepreneurship, but also interpersonal skills, including efficient use of the Polish language (literacy skills), formulating opinions, teamwork, negotiation techniques, additional courses delivered jointly with employers, career guidance. In October 2014 the Ministry and the National Centre of Research and Development announced the new competition, supported by the European Social Fund, for projects supporting career offices and career guidance in particular. Presentation will introduce the most important achievements of the objectives referred to the Frames of European cooperation on education and training.
Socio Economic Status and Female Enrollment in Engineering and Technology Pro...ijtsrd
Educational goals and systems around the world differ in many respects. The concerns to meet up with the science educational goals regarding the supply of human resources originate from the decreasing number of qualified female candidates for admission into the field of science and engineering in tertiary education in Cameroon. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of socio economic status on female enrolment in Engineering and Technology programmes in Anglo Saxon state universities of Cameroon. The study used a cross sectional research design, and multi stage sampling technique was used to randomly select 276 respondents from the universities of Bamenda and Buea. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using structured questionnaire and interview schedules with 10 parents whose children are admitted in engineering and technology programs in the English speaking state universities. Descriptive statistics, point biserial and binary logit regression analysis were performed to achieve the stated specific objectives of the study. Content analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data. The findings revealed that, socio economic status of parents correlate significantly to students’ enrolment in engineering and technology. The null hypothesis tested was rejected. It is recommended that parents should feature prominently in future educational activities of their children. Ladislav Mura: Networking of Scientific and Academic Teams and Cooperation wi...CUBCCE Conference
The purpose of his presentation is to address an undoubtedly discussed issue of networking and creation of educational and scientific clusters. The scientific teams of different countries and various scientific fields represent the most dynamically developing part of the scientific and research base. Establishing interdisciplinary teams with members from different countries create a strong scientific potential for implementing financially and technologically demanding scientific research. Providing the necessary background for the scientists requires large financial investments, ensuring access to scientific resources and the latest research results. In his presentation He would like to introduce an educational-scientific cluster, consisting of three institutions of higher education, officially operating under the name of Academic Alliance. The cluster is formed by two Czech and one Slovak institution. The scientific researchers of the institutions are connected to create a strong background, active interaction, synergy, and the possibility to conduct demanding scientific research.

This article shows the need for the University to adjust to the new times by updating the curriculum structure of higher education that should not only respond to market demands, but also provide knowledge to develop the qualification and the humanistic formation of the individual, besides showing how to achieve individual and collective happiness.

Making a career in (European) research institutions more attractive to
the next generations.
How can an employer to choose the best researcher?
Objectives:
Allows universities and businesses to find the right talent and connects
people.
Save employers time and money by helping new recruits with their CD.
Research skills, but also to develop the transferable skills that universities
and research institutions are looking for.
6. Making a career in research institution more attractive
requires having good working conditions, rewarding
productivity and quality in salary schemes etc.
CDC can play a key role in planning and development of
careers in the academic and non-academic sectors
providing unified services dedicated to this field across
Europe.
7. How?
1. The provision of social security benefits, type of contract (open-
ended, fixed-term ‘institutional’, or fixed term project based).
probationary period of employment contracts without limit,
contracts that’s provide social security benefits (tax break and
reduction in social security contribution),
labour low benefits ( one-year probationary period with the possibilities
to end the contract at will duting that time)
8. Theory or not?
Fixed-term contracts have become a major form of
employment in Europe.
The usefulness of these jobs depends on the
institutional and economic environment.
Fixed-term contracts can be a pathway from
unemployment to employment, but their potential as a
stepping stone to permanent employment is undercut if
there is a strong degree of segmentation in labour
markets.
9. 2. Proliferation of short term research contracts and the differences
in the provision of social security benefits (sickness, parental,
unemployment and pension benefits) make research careers less
attractive for present and future generations.
One of the most important trends over the past decades is
undeniably the growth of insecurity in the world of work.
According to the latest data from the Higher Education Statistics
Agency (Hesa), more than a third of the academic workforce is
now on temporary, fixed-term contracts.
10. 3. Rewarding productivity
What kinds of rewards employees consider most beneficial and finally discuss
some dilemmas and difficulties managers face in applying motivation theory to
workplace setting.
Enhanced motivation can be attained when managers do their best to design the
work setting (True/Not true).
Managers can only influence employees with a combination of rewards to
motivate them to perform but cannot force them!!
11. 4. To emphasize the important function of the universities: to train
and retain the researchers for future generations
Universities work to ensure, among other
improvements, better teaching, better research, more
adequate and stronger relationship with business and
society, and better outreach.
Universities are thus dedicated to training and
prepare future researchers.
So, the role of universities is extremely important as
agents that conduct the training of future generation.
“Most of tomorrow's economy is being born today in
university research laboratories.” (Humboldt)
12. Research and education under one roof, giving
students direct access to the leading researchers and
thinkers of the time. In return, scientists would benefit from
the critical inquiries of their students.
Moreover, are alternative models of university education
and research both attractive and workable?
If universities move away from teaching and fund research
through links with business, do they sacrifice their
intellectual independence?
13. The situation for a research university very much depends
on the stage of development—both economically and
scientifically—of the country where the university is located.
For example, some research universities will have both
undergraduate and graduate programmes, whereas some
research universities will have only PhD programmes.
The important mission of research universities in the
European Union (EU) is to promote creative individual
research.
14. To develop creative research, we need an infrastructure
where faculty and graduate students are inspired to develop
creative ideas.
Research universities play a critical role in research and
education because they are the best instruments we have,
not only to generally educate undergraduate students to base
their opinions and decisions on existing evidence, but also to
develop their enthusiasm for a research career.
Also, universities need to act internationally.
They need to use the potential of sharing knowledge.
