A diversity of flexible

created thanks to informal
ways of social interaction
in makerspaces, e.g. peer
learning and mentoring,
peer coaching
• An authentic makerspace “brought” into a school or a
training centre. Informal community of like-minded
people in a spirit of exploring, tinkering and sharing.
Learning as an incidental outcome.
• Making activities linked to educational learning
outcomes & curriculum subjects (e.g. STEAM).
Through open-ended exploration, students discover
the concepts the teacher intended them to learn.
Learning becomes more intentional.

• Making activities in curriculum can support and foster
explicit learning activities and well-defined learning
outcomes.
• Secures equity through allowing all learners to
participate and benefit from such activities.
• Suitable for competence-based education and for
addressing European Key Competences for Lifelong
Learning.

Three unique aspects of makerspaces for education and training Interdisciplinarity Making activities naturally combine disciplines that are traditionally taught separately Authentic real-world problems Individuals acquire new knowledge and create meaning from experiencing with making activities Flexible learning arrangements A diversity of flexible learning arrangements created thanks to informal ways of social interaction in makerspaces, e.g. peer learning and mentoring, peer coaching
  • 3. • An authentic makerspace “brought” into a school or a training centre. Informal community of like-minded people in a spirit of exploring, tinkering and sharing. Learning as an incidental outcome. • Making activities linked to educational learning outcomes & curriculum subjects (e.g. STEAM). Through open-ended exploration, students discover the concepts the teacher intended them to learn. Learning becomes more intentional. Types of makerspaces in E&T
