The Oklahoma City Thunder Went Into Oracle Arena
On Monday night, the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder went into Oracle Arena and knocked off
the Golden State Warriors 108 102 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder
were able to win on Monday night, thanks to a 19 point third quarter performance from point
guard Russell Westbrook. Westbrook s play in the third quarter was the key to Oklahoma City s
comeback as they were down 13 points at the half. The first half was not good for the Thunder or
Westbrook as he struggled with his jump shot. As a team, the Thunder shot 45.5 percent from
the field but shot 50.0 percent from three point range, which kept them in striking distance. But
what killed Oklahoma City in the first two quarters was turnovers as they had 10. Those 1o
turnovers, lead to 15 points for the Warriors. As I mentioned earlier, Westbrook struggled on
offense as he was getting outplayed by his counterpart, two time MVP Stephen Curry. In the first
half, Curry had 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds, six
assists, and three steals. Westbrook was getting beat at his own game, which is stuffing the stat
sheet and making an impact in every facet of the game. In the first half, Westbrook only scored
three points, as he shot a horrendous 1 of 8 from the field. With Westbrook not making an impact in
the scoring department, he made sure to get his teammates involved early and often as he dished
out eight assists in the first half. Thankfully, on the other end of his

Lucky s Negligence Case
Lucky s parent, the Spencers want to know whether they can successfully sue the camp for
Lucky s injury under a theory of negligence. Negligence is a failure to act as a reasonably
prudent and careful person is expected to act in a similar circumstances. The four basic elements
of a negligence case are duty, breach of duty, causation, and harm. We will have to see if Lucky s
case meets any of these elements. Eight year old Lucky was a camper from Camp Kid. Each year

to avoid an accident to occur. Sometimes we could get hurt just by walking and tripping over a
small rock, passing a ball or by playing any other sport. There will always be many risks you
won t be able to avoid. If you want to eliminate risks from sports, you would have to eliminate all

The Most Stressful Time Of A Graduate Program
Some individuals shine under stress while other individual fail at it. The most stressful time I
underwent during my undergrad was when I found out that the master s program that I wanted to
attend was asking for a higher grade point average than what I had. The business program that I
wanted to attend was asking for a minimum of 3.20 gradepoint average in order to be able to get
into the program. During the first two years of my education I did not take school seriously and
because of that it effected my overcall grade point average however, I found out that the master
program is only looking at the last ninety units of your undergrad. I felt relieved and quickly
started counting up my overall grade point average not taking the first two years of school. I had
a 2.70 grade point average counting only the last sixty units of my undergrad work. I was really
upset because I had eight classes left (Thirty two units) to take before graduation. I would have
had to get really high grades in the winter quarter in order to get accepted into the program. The
stress was overwhelming because I either got good grades or I would not continue my education.
I worked forty plus hours a week and attend school fulltime getting nearly perfect grades seemed
an impossible task to me. The stress of obtaining good grades during the upcoming quarter
motivated me to reach new heights that I believed I could have never reach because I did not have
enough time to focus on school. In the beginning

What I Learned From Your Book

Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi,
This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are
elements of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale
with you. 1800 years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi.
One day he went out to cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the
GO (a Chinese game) in pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He
was so focus on the game that he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that
as it is so late you had better go home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He
was so surprised that his axe handle was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor
told him he had already went out more than 10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true
story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese
people realize that people have flow experience hundreds years ago.
In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to
achieve it in class. I learned that you named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused
mental state. In your seminal work, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, you outline
your theory that people are happiest when they are in a state of flow a state of concentration or

Air Pollution And Its Effects On Health
Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. All aerobic biological
system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes
(Valavanidis et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come
complications. More specifically, air pollutionhas been deemed hazardous to human health. Air
pollution is a complex and abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes
particulatematter, chemical substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large
enough to be seen with the naked eye. Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate
matter is associated with triggering serious health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness
of adverse effects on health due to both acute and chronic exposure to particulate matter.
Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological studies continue to discover a correlation
between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of this paper is to discuss particulate matter
and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate matter is particle air pollution that
consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012). This particle pollution, also
known as PM, is constructed of inhalable coarse particles as well as fine course particles. These
particles consist of various sizes, which are unequivocally connected to causations of health
ailments. The inhalable course particles (PM10) have

Before his Career
Clive Davis had many ideas of what he wanted to be before his career.
Interest in music He became interested in music from the broadway musicals he used to see when

St Mother Teresa Research Paper
Saint Research Paper The Saint that I chose is Saint Mother Teresa de Calcutta. She was born
August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. My saint left home at the age of eight teen to join the
convent in Ireland then moved to India. She taught geography and history to the daughters of
wealthy families. Saint Teresa de Calcutta could not ignore the reality of how people were
extremely poor and suffering, she believed it her was her duty to help the poor and suffering.
Saint Teresa de Calcutta then decided to leave Ireland to help the poor while living among them
in India. My saint is very special because she spent almost her entire life to serve the poor and
help them all over the world. She made houses to help them, one of the houses was in New York...

Saint Mother Teresade Calcutta is a saint because of all the work she did to help the poor and
suffering, trying to make things better for them all. Her relationship with Jesus and God was
very close I believe since she became a nun and joined the convent, she also mentioned how it
was her calling from God to help the poor. I chose Saint Teresa de Calcutta as my saint because
her life story is extremely inspiring to me, she devoted her life to God in which she became a
nun and also helped the poor and suffering, which I truly admire about her. I want my life to be
like Saint Mother Teresa de Calcutta by two things, I want to devote my life to God and serve
him in which I become a nun or the way he wants me to serve him. Another thing I feel like I
want my life to be is how Saint Teresa de Calcutta helped the poor which is something I want to
do in a third world country like she did and spend my life doing that. One quality I would like to
have from my saint is courage, she left her home very young which was very courageous of her and
very brave. Saint Teresa de Calcutta also had courage when she decided to leave Ireland to help the
poor in India, which is why I admire her so very much, she is my

Rhetorical Appeal Of Queen Elizabeth To The Troops At Tilbury
The rhetorical appeal of Queen Elizabeth to the troops at Tilbury has been renowned as one of the
most persuasive speeches of our day. Using ethos, pathos, logos, and even deception, Queen
Elizabeth captures the hearts of her contingent and all of England.
When an expected invasion of England by the Spanish Armada was imminent, Queen Elizabeth
realized that the only way that the kingdom could become triumphant was to rally her people to
stand with her to repel their enemies. Queen Elizabeth begins her speech by addressing her people,
beginning with My loving people. Although many citizens of England disliked the Queen, she
addressed them as though the nation adored her, giving the illusion of unity. Continuing on,
Elizabeth inspires pathos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using her subject s faith in God, and the current law of divine leadership, Elizabeth I sets in
stone her reputation. If God chose her to be the Queen of England, then she must be a qualified
leader. Who would dare defy a decision ordained by God himself?
Calling upon pathos, Queen Elizabeth proves her loyalty to her subjects by telling them I am
come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved,
in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all. But would the queen really fight
beside her nation? Of course not, England could not risk the catastrophic terror the death of a
monarch would bring. But her statement certainly serves its purpose, as it gives relatability.
Queen Elizabeth uses pathos again for a third time by using her gender as a crutch for weakness.
Falsely letting the public know that she would gladly fight alongside them, the Queen negates the
previous statement by dictating, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman. Although
this statement could be looked upon negatively by a woman, it served the purpose of inspiring
empathy within the hearts of the soldiers being

Secretary Chant
In the poem The Secretary Chant by Margie Piercy, a woman working as a secretary is depicted
as undervalued and unappreciated by her employer. With this poem being written in 1936, the
idea of women in the workplace was fairly new. Women were not given equal treatment as
employees and were in the beginning stages of their fight for equality. The year the poem was
written most certainly plays an integral role in the poem s tone, structure, diction, and theme.
Throughout the poem, it is obvious that the secretary feels as if her job consumes her to the point
where she is only seen as an object in the business in which she is employed rather than a human
being or woman. The poet uses office materials to replace the secretary s body parts,... Show more

Repetition serves as a solid literary device used to develop the main theme of the poem.
Repetition is used in this poem as a way in which to capitalize the monotony of the secretary s
occupation. This also contributes to the overall robotic tone that is emphasized as the reader
reads the poem. Repetition not only serves as a contributor to the tone of the story, but also as a
symbol. The use of repetition symbolizes the feelings of the secretary. She feels entrapped and
enslaved to her job due to the unfair reduction of her humanity. The repetition also symbolizes
the continuous cycle that is experienced by women in general during the time period in which
the poem was written. Women were constantly fighting for equality, but continued to be treated
inhumanely. The use of the anaphora in lines 1, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 14 when the poet repeats My six
times, it can be inferred that her mental strength to press forward despite her feelings of
degradation is becoming wearier each day that passes. Repetition is used to place emphasis on
or draw attention to a certain aspect. The poet uses the anaphora to draw the reader s attention to
how mentally draining the secretary s situation is. This device could also be viewed as a ploy to
evoke some sense of emotion from the reader. This places the reader deeper into the mind of the
secretary making the reader feel sympathy or maybe even anger towards the secretary s status in
the workplace.

Revised Order Of The Sacraments Of Initiation
Revised Order of the Sacraments of Initiation Bishop ГЃlvaro Corrada said, The sacraments draw
humanity into the truth and love of God revealed in Christ, thereby disposing the faithful to live
this love more deeply in their daily lives of Christian freedom and witness. They serve to introduce
us into the Catholic Church, increase our understanding of our religion, bestow upon us essential
Christian virtues, and strengthen our faith. There are seven sacraments in total: Baptism,
Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage.
The first three Sacraments listed are the Sacraments of Initiation. The Sacraments of Christian
Initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life...By
means of these Sacraments of Christian Initiation, [we] thus receive in increasing measure the
treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. (CCC Chapter 1, Article
2:1212) These sacraments represent our birth into the Church, the seal of our birth into the Church,
and the reception of Jesus body. In the words of the Catholic Church, The Christian is born anew
by Baptism, strengthened by Confirmation, and receives in the Eucharist the food of eternal life.
(CCC Chapter 1, Article 2:1212)
In the early Church, the three Sacraments of Initiation were practiced in one significant process.

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the
power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social,
economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their
various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake
shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces
were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature
and desire to live in a world of light and charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC,
when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean.
Mycenaean artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely

Internal Conflict In Sue Kidd s The Secret Life Of Bees
In the novel The Secret Life of Bees (2001), Sue Kidd creates a character, Terrence Ray Owens,
that serves as the epitome of internal conflict. Kidd is able to show Terrence s internal conflict
through through a flashback from Lily s friend August, and a series of violent actions inflicted
on his daughter Lily. Kidd s purpose in this novel is to display the ramifications of a broken
home dynamic, in order to show how forgiveness to oneself and others is truly the first step to
finding happiness. It doesn t take us the readers long to find out that T. Ray is an abusive parent,
but it does take us a little longer to discover why he is the way he his. Going in chronological
order of the discoveries within the book, T. Ray s main three sources of internal conflictwhich
produces external conflict with his daughter is the result of his background of war, his wife running
away and eventually dying, and his daughter running away as well. Working backwards, August s
introduction into the book and the knowledge she has on Lily s family divulges quite a lot about
T. Ray than Lily is aware of. As we the readers find out, T. Ray served as a combatant during the
VietnamWar and returned to Tiburon in 1964, the year the book is set in. Drawing on
contemporary knowledge, the Vietnam War was a highly controversial and overall bloody war that
caused massive civil unrest. These facts mixed with whatever traumatic experiences that T. Ray

The most predominant themes illustrated both throughout my section and comic strip are lies and

love, because both emphasize one character s devotion lovetowards another character. In this case,
Mrs. Havisham loves Estella, and wishes that she finds love; whereas the latter quote presents
itself as a moment where Pip expresses his love and devotion towards Estella. Therefore, it is quite

Exercise And Behavior Adoption For Many Reasons
This course has provided a new perspective on exercise and behavior adoption for many reasons.
The first and prominent realization I had was during the behavior change project. This
assignment allowed me to take a step back, and assess where I stand physically and mentally. I
noticed that I lacked discipline in my diet and exercise routines. That being said, I did exercise
periodically prior to this moment, but I knew that I was capable of accomplishing more and using
my time more wisely. The fact that this assignment allowed me to directly apply what we learned
in class in my life is appealing to me. There have been many theories and terms that we have
covered, but items such as the self determination theory, social support, and the stimulus response
theory stood out, probably due to incorporating them in my behavior change.
The self determination theory has been made prevalent in my life as I have seen it hold true in
my personal goals, and I have used it to help motivate others to accomplish plans of interest. It is
hard for me to have a great influence on my family, due to being six hours away for college, but
recently my mother and I have been discussing exercise possibilities over the phone. She knows
that she should exercise, but has found it difficult to begin the change from being sedentary to
physically active. The self determination theory has three main components; autonomy,
competence, and relatedness (Lox, 2014). I was able to use these factors to help

Cell Structures Under Different Magnifications Essay
Title: Cell Structures under different magnifications
Abstract
As per the cell hypothesis, the cell is the essential natural unit, the structure having the attributes of
life. The principle target is to watch different cases of protected plant and animal cells to recognize
contrasts between the two cell sorts and to distinguish regular organelles unmistakable in these
examples. Cells can be characterized by sort, for example, prokaryotic or eukaryotic or plant or
creature cells. These sorts have particular, identifiable contrasts that adjust the capacities and
abilities of the cells. While plant and animal cells are both cases of a eukaryotic cell, there are
contrasts that you ought to have the capacity to see in lab. The cell structures when viewed under
different power of magnification, depicts different clarity of organelles.
Introduction
The assorted qualities of structure and capacity in the cell world parallel the differences of species
in the biosphere. Numerous plant and creature cells are steadfastly altered as a major aspect of
multicellular tissues (Pruitt, 2002). The morphology of tissue cells is very associated with their
capacity (Alberts, 2002). Notwithstanding basic and hierarchical contrasts, varieties in cell measure
likewise add to the differing qualities of cell sorts, as far as possible (Bregman Bregman, 1990). The
littler the cell the more noteworthy the surface territory/volume proportion and the more proficient
the development of fundamental

Walt Disney Concert Hall
Public Spaces provide unique experiences and contribute to the identity of a city. Found as places
like plazas, parks, marketplaces, within buildings, lobbies and many more. Public spaces are
important to our society and therefore face more arguments in design and construction compared to
private spaces.
In order to create innovative public architecture, considered to be the most civic, costly, time
intensive and physical of the arts, the project holds a degree of risk, strife, and negotiation .
Overcoming these tasks and creating worthy public architecture is a challenge designers try to
accomplish, but are rarely successful. The people involved in a potential public building, can be

Nicholas felt that to gain a clearer understanding of the issues involved, he arranged a research
tour of great concert halls around the world in November 1987. After the research and experience
the travelers shared, the Berlin Philharmonie Hall by Hans Scharon was one of the groups favorite
for its combination of acoustical excellence and audience intimacy. From there Ernest Fleischman,
head of LA Phil during the time, agreed he wanted the Disney Concert Hall to be a single purpose
hall that is inviting, open and accessible to the street and related it to the experience of the Berlin

The next step for the Walt Disney Concert Hallis a crucial one, choosing the architect for the Hall.
The list began with eighty different architects from around the world. Through extensive processing
and interviewing, the selection slimmed down to four architects: Goffried Bohm, Frank Gehry,
Hans Hollein, and James Stirling.
From the start many people in the Music Center were opposed to Frank Gehry and his reputation of
being an architectural wild man . In the end Gehry demonstrated consideration of what the building
in Los Angeles should be. Even though the designs Gehry presented during the competition were
not used, Gehry showed his understanding for the program; the important relationship looking to be
expressed between musician and audience and his previous work with other music venues.

The Civil War Museum Of New Orleans
The Civil War museum located in New Orleans is a very interesting museum to visit. On the
outside the museum stands out from the surrounding building as it has an older brick style
building which almost looks like a church in some aspects.. On the right side of the stairs that lead
up inside is a large cannonon display. Upon entering the museumit is made apparent that the
building is in good condition, but is also very old. Every step that I took while in the museum
sounded as if the floor was about to cave in underneath my feet. I was greeted upon entry to the
museum and I paid my entry fee and was given a sheet of paper with some general information
on the museum. Once leaving the desk I walked along the wall to my left which was covered in
glass cases that contained a multitude of civil war artifacts. The first thing that stood out to me
was a small set of hand carved wooden chess pieces. They were kept in great condition, along
with the bag that held them, aside from one hole in the bag itself. Above the glass cases were
Civil War flags for different regiments with a particular focus on the Louisiana based regiment.
Once I looked at the array of flags on left wall I focused my attention back to the glass cases
again. The further down the wall I progressed the more personal items I came across. Uniforms
and tokens given to soldiers from both the Confederates and the Union soldiers were on display
with plaques inside giving biographical information on the

Identification and Description of Singapore Airline s...
SINGAPORE AIRLINES
Identification and Description of SIA s Processes
The major processes of Singapore International Airlines consist of cabin service, flight operations,
commercial marketing, information technology, engineering, security, and airport services and
training. Excellent cabin service includes greeting passengers upon entering the cabin and directing
them to their seats, providing them with information about the services and treating them with
hospitality and courtesy. Flight operations determine that the flights are well coordinated and are
punctual as well as safe. Commercial marketing ensures that SIA can compete effectively within the
market in the face of competition from rivals like Thai Airways, Malaysian Airlines and All Nippon
Airlines. Engineering quality ensures the airworthiness and safety of the aircraft through regular
maintenance and repair. Airport services include passenger and cargo handling along with
necessary hospitality for first class passengers. Training processes ensure that the company is
adequately staffed with competent and motivated employees.
Distinguishing Features of SIA
The processes that have distinguished SIA from its rivals have been its extremely high service
levels. SIA has built a competitive edge based on its orientation as a service organization rather
than as an airlines company only. In terms of cabin seating, in flight food and entertainment,
hospitality and connectivity, SIA has relied on being a leader in

Throughout history man has always had a vivid imagination. In prehistoric times, old man used to

The Importance Of The English Revolution And The American...
English history played a major role in the American Revolution by introducing new and
revolutionary ideas to the public. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration
of the monarchy also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I
and the attempted establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight
against King George III s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also
influenced the war. The colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy,
assembly, and speech. Therefore, the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was
failing its main purpose according to social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the
Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Sugar Act, and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed
the Parliament had no right to impose these taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t
represented in government. As a result, several Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native
Americans, boarded a British cargo ship and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered
by the act, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the
Boston Tea Party by blockading the Boston Harbor until restitution was made for the tea. The
colonists also resented the Navigation Acts, which effectively created a British trading monopoly.

Similarities Between The Song Of Roland And Perceval
The concept of honor and the connection of living our life with honor has been pondered by
philosophers, intellectuals, and the common people. Even as far back as medieval times, the idea
of honor is a key factor in what shapes the rules of society. Knights would try their best to apply
the Code of Chivalryto their everyday lives. The Code of Chivalry is a compilation of rules that
guide the knightto be what was considered honorable in their time. Most knights would try to live

In medieval times it was called the Code of Chivalry. The knights, who used the Code of
Chivalry, were living in a much different time period than ours; as they lived in a time period
without a strong central power. What this shows, for knights that honor for them is much more
focused on the individual . As Roland and Perceval fails to upheld their version of the code as
their internal conflicts were too much for them to handle. While in the modern era, which is
much more centralized, focuses more on the wellbeing of the group. In our society, being able
to work together with people and make decision based on the welfare of the common people is
an important rule for our people to live with. People in our modern era works based off that
important idea and it is in their nature to work with cooperation and for the welfare of the group.
The knights version of the code in a time era where centralization was lacking was based off

One of the issues I stand against is for the right to keep and bear arms. The Republican party

my ideas diverge with the Republican party since it opposes the laws which limit the open use

An operating system is one of an important system that should have inside a computer. It contains
instructions that coordinate all the activities among the computer hardware resources. Without an

African American Black Arts Poetry
This chapter undertakes to explicate the way that distinction operates at a key moment in African
American cultural history. Black art is the aesthetic and spiritual sister of the Black power. The
Black arts and the Black power concept both relate to the African Americans for self determination
and nationhood. It has been widely held that the fundamental characteristic of Black arts poetry is
its virulent antiwhite rhetoric. Houston Baker stated, the influential black critic J. Saunders

In the summer time of 2015, it was shown in a CNN article that two thirds of Americans were in
favor in gay marriage soon to become a law change in most states to make it acceptable for
people of the same sex to live together as partners and live the life they wish to as a married
couple. This quick acceptance in our country shows the urgency of openness to everyone around,
prior to the summer of 2015 an issue that our country faced was the issue of acceptance of others
that would classify themselves as a member of the LGBTQ community. As the campus of Southeast
Missouri State University constantly breaks new records of enrollment and students choosing to
live on campus the universities new President is embarking on a new way to market the university,
diversity. As the acceptance with members in the LGBTQ community, more and more students are
opening up at home, expressing and or finding out their true selves in their college years. Limiting
the residence halls to same birth sex only is limiting the growth as individuals of the new students
who come in that might be included or interested in the LGBTQ community. Some students are
afraid to come out expressing themselves, having the opportunity to room with a person who is of
the opposite gender or trans can be very beneficial. Like in the article So Roomie, Let s Talk
students don t always understand one another s diversity which can lead to some very terrible
things. Bullying peaks in middle school and decreases in high school but can continue in college.
Students are constantly facing peer pressure and judgment in the story by Slotnik the two
roommates barely communicated amongst each other, once the truth came out about one of the
roommates the others life soon ended.(Slotnik) If the campus would allow its students to choose

Lucy And The American Dream Analysis
A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their
encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring
the past experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he
questions if the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that
describes a girl s experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of
controversy when having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is
Lucy compares everything to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy
s first days in the new world she was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm
temperature which coming from a tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude
awakening appeared when she felt the cold air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know
that the sun could shine and the air remain cold; no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout
the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every encounter with the new world, the first quote
shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is brought to the United States to be a
babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at night. The family of the house
was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I should regard them as my
family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person

The Struggles And Inequalities Of Mexican Americans
In the educational setting, Mexican Americans have faced discrimination, segregation, and
inequality for many years. This paper discusses the struggles and inequalities that Mexican
Americans have faced in education. I will focus on different educational time periods and discuss
the problems and struggles that occurred in those time periods. The time periods that I give focus to
include educationin the Spanish Mexican era (1519 1848), education and early Anglo rule in the
Southwest (1836 1890), the expansion of American education (1890 1960), and education in the
contemporary period (1960 present). Education in the Spanish Mexican era lasted from 1519 until
1848. During this period, education occurred in informal and formal settings and was aimed
towards the Indian population, who were Spanish subjects. Education in informal settings was the
general norm and the most important informal settings were missions, presidios, and civilian
settlements. The purpose of educating the Indians was to substitute their identity with a Spanish
one and to also teach them the acceptance of their social relegation. The way the Spanish did this
was by teaching the Indians literacy, music, the Catholic faith, Spanish manners, and by repressing
their indigenous religious and social beliefs (Kloosterman 2). Education and the early Anglo rule in
the Southwest lasted from 1836 until 1890. From 1836 to about 1850, formal education took place
in schools that were founded by the Catholic Church.

Fear Of Spiders Research Paper
Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at
least a touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with
the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you
normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any
actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow
spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more
often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if
they are guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces
sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can
become severe and spread to other parts of the body and be accompanies by tremors and weakness.

to identify the brown recluse is its three pair of eyes. The brown recluse won t seek out humans
to attack as it is shy by nature. It typically hunts for prey at night and hides during the day.
However, its hiding places can lead to accidental bites as they like to hide in ceiling light fixtures,
under insulation in attics, under furniture, in boxes or in closets. These locations are prime areas
for them to be accidently found and thus result in a

The Little Town Of Christmas Essay
Most people agree that Christmas is a magical time. They believe that it can warm the heart of
Scrooge, bring toys to life, and even deliver toys across the globe. However, can a Christmas ad
be magical, is it possible for just an ad taped to the wall; can it incite warm feelings in someone s
heart, to bring just a spec of happiness to them? This ad for The Little Town of Christmas, may
seem plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked.
There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the
hearts of many; these aspects are the ad s font style, the colorscheme, the age range it targets, and
the overall design choice.
Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic
Sands. However, instead of these font styles, the production company decided to go with a more
creative font for the ad. Moreover, this font style doesn t have a specific style or standard, because
of this there are a few details that are subtle to the eye. In the Christmas the t resembles a cross, that
one can only assume is to honor Christianity; for as many know Christmas was the birth of the
profit Jesus. While intriguing, this subtle detail is not widely noticed to those that do not pay ...

With its very broad age range, it can target the largest and most diverse audience imaginable.
Finally, with its snow globe design and other details, it will give the viewers a quote unquote
souvenir to take home to remember. Overall, there may be a few mistakes, but the ad itself will be
very successful in its job to draw attention and to go watch the play. These aspects though alone
may seem irrelevant, together they create the magic of

Adult Development Attachment Analysis
Adult Development Interview: Attachment Across a Life Span The notion of attachment and the
attachment theory are primarily associated to John Bowlby, who s articulation of attachment
diverged significantly from all previous theories concerning the importance of social and emotional
bonds formed by a child. The propensity to search for contact with a care giver was not a derived
from inclination, but subsisted as a primary and permanent drive (Broderick Blewitt.2015).
Essentially, the attachment theorychallenged theories of social learning, along with psychoanalysis.
According to social learning theories, attachment is formed with those persons who satisfy social
needs, while psychanalysis maintains that the child creates a deep connection

Edward Said States Essay
No Place Like Home Edward Said s States is an excerpt from his book After the Last Sky:
Palestinian Lives. It s a story about Palestine, once a country, but now spread out into a million
pieces of the people that once called it home. The pieces being more of memories of a time when
Palestinians could be who they are, not a scattered and forgotten people. They all face a new
struggle, a struggle to find their identity. Identity who we are, where we come from, what we are
is difficult to maintain in exile. Most other people take their identity for granted. Not the
Palestinian, who is required to show proofs of identity more or less constantly. (Page 546) Said,
being Palestinian himself, tells us this story in what was called a... Show more content on

In my opinion, I don t know if any other approach would have been this effective. This allows we
as readers to see more into the lives of Palestinians, rather than just read about it. Said starts off
the story describing a picture of the wedding of a Palestinian couple. Instead of describing the
obvious of what was happening in the picture, Said goes on to describe it in a way that only a
true Palestinian would be able to see. Cutting across the wedding party s path here is the ever
present Mercedes, emblazoned with its extra mark of authenticity, the proud D for Deutschland. A
rare luxury in the West, the Mercedes usually secondhand and smuggled in in the commonest of
cars in the Levant. (Page 541) To someone who did not grow up in Palestine, they would not know
this piece of information. Pictures such as this would provoke feelings and memories only a
Palestinian would know. They would remember a time that they were forced to forget. A time
when they were forced to leave the only home they ever knew. Before I read what Said had to
say about his point of view, I never would have thought farther into the picture other than the fact
it was a picture of someone s wedding day. This is a good example of why Said s choice of hybrid
writing is effective in what he wants us as readers to know. It brings us into his mind and allows us
to understand a little better.

RELATED WORKS AND LITERATURE
According to Anderson et al, linear programming framework has served many applications in a
wide variety of production, finance, marketing, and distribution problems. The authors added that
linear programming models can help managers in efficiently maximizing profits or minimizing
costs when faced with constrained resource allocation decisions.
Several applications of linear programming in the business are scheduling, transportation,
managerial and cost accounting. Profit oriented companies greatly evaluate capital investments they
are to shelf out, since miscalculations will incur great damage to them and so the more efficient LP

The area we know today as Elmwood was still a wandering...
The area we know today as Elmwood was still a wandering haunt of the Omaha, Pawnee, and
Otoe Indians in the 1860 s. It was dotted with buffalo wallows, and trails of the kind so familiar
to Lewis and Clark, and the Mormons, who helped open the great western frontier. Danger and
challenge were everywhere; but so was opportunity in the Homestead Act passed by Congress in
1862. For facing the rigors of the frontier life, the head of a family could obtain 160 acres of good
black land if he could survive for five years and make some improvements. The post office was
commissioned in 1868 at a log cabin built just east and north of the present town of Elmwood by
David McCaig, who suggested that it be known to residents as Elmwood because of... Show more

When it was time to celebrate, they knocked in the barrel head and threw the fuel on the fire.
The flames shot into the sky. The next bucket of fuel put the fire out! The fellows in town, angry
that the bonfire was a failure, decided to gather up the old fashioned outhouses for a real blaze!
The Opera House was built about 1890. It took the place of the old band stand that used to be
where the Masonic Hall is now. Elmwood had a number of early bands, and one bandsman, Del
Greenslate, had a cornet so small he could put it in his pocket. Big wheeler bicycles were a
popular in the early days. Del Greenslate, Charlie Stevens, W. E. Rosencrans, and William
Atchison would sometimes cycle to Louisville, Weeping Water, and back to Elmwood on a
Sunday afternoon. Gil Hooley had a popcorn stand that he hauled to the corner where the
American Exchange Bank stands today. He sold popcorn every Saturday afternoon and evening.
On Sunday it was common fun to pick the stand up and haul it two miles south of town and put
it in the creek. Sometimes it could be found on top of Doc Hobb s office. Gil never knew where
he might find his stand on Monday! Elmwood s first flag pole was two trees, bolted together and
it stood in the middle of the town square. It leaned at bit to the north so the people finally built a

  • 2. The Oklahoma City Thunder Went Into Oracle Arena On Monday night, the upstart Oklahoma City Thunder went into Oracle Arena and knocked off the Golden State Warriors 108 102 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder were able to win on Monday night, thanks to a 19 point third quarter performance from point guard Russell Westbrook. Westbrook s play in the third quarter was the key to Oklahoma City s comeback as they were down 13 points at the half. The first half was not good for the Thunder or Westbrook as he struggled with his jump shot. As a team, the Thunder shot 45.5 percent from the field but shot 50.0 percent from three point range, which kept them in striking distance. But what killed Oklahoma City in the first two quarters was turnovers as they had 10. Those 1o turnovers, lead to 15 points for the Warriors. As I mentioned earlier, Westbrook struggled on offense as he was getting outplayed by his counterpart, two time MVP Stephen Curry. In the first half, Curry had 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Westbrook was getting beat at his own game, which is stuffing the stat sheet and making an impact in every facet of the game. In the first half, Westbrook only scored three points, as he shot a horrendous 1 of 8 from the field. With Westbrook not making an impact in the scoring department, he made sure to get his teammates involved early and often as he dished out eight assists in the first half. Thankfully, on the other end of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Most Stressful Time Of A Graduate Program Some individuals shine under stress while other individual fail at it. The most stressful time I underwent during my undergrad was when I found out that the master s program that I wanted to attend was asking for a higher grade point average than what I had. The business program that I wanted to attend was asking for a minimum of 3.20 gradepoint average in order to be able to get into the program. During the first two years of my education I did not take school seriously and because of that it effected my overcall grade point average however, I found out that the master program is only looking at the last ninety units of your undergrad. I felt relieved and quickly started counting up my overall grade point average not taking the first two years of school. I had a 2.70 grade point average counting only the last sixty units of my undergrad work. I was really upset because I had eight classes left (Thirty two units) to take before graduation. I would have had to get really high grades in the winter quarter in order to get accepted into the program. The stress was overwhelming because I either got good grades or I would not continue my education. I worked forty plus hours a week and attend school fulltime getting nearly perfect grades seemed an impossible task to me. The stress of obtaining good grades during the upcoming quarter motivated me to reach new heights that I believed I could have never reach because I did not have enough time to focus on school. What I Learned From Your Book Jiaxin Cheng LSU ID: 893952268 ENGL 1001 21/09/2016 Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi, This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are elements of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale with you. 1800 years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi. One day he went out to cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the GO (a Chinese game) in pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He was so focus on the game that he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that as it is so late you had better go home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He was so surprised that his axe handle was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor told him he had already went out more than 10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese people realize that people have flow experience hundreds years ago. In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to achieve it in class. I learned that you named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused mental state. In your seminal work, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, you outline your theory that people are happiest when they are in a state of flow a state of concentration or ... • 6. Air Pollution And Its Effects On Health Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. All aerobic biological system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More specifically, air pollutionhas been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulatematter, chemical substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of this paper is to discuss particulate matter and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate matter is particle air pollution that consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012). This particle pollution, also known as PM, is constructed of inhalable coarse particles as well as fine course particles. These particles consist of various sizes, which are unequivocally connected to causations of health ailments. The inhalable course particles (PM10) have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Rhetorical Appeal Of Queen Elizabeth To The Troops At Tilbury The rhetorical appeal of Queen Elizabeth to the troops at Tilbury has been renowned as one of the most persuasive speeches of our day. Using ethos, pathos, logos, and even deception, Queen Elizabeth captures the hearts of her contingent and all of England. When an expected invasion of England by the Spanish Armada was imminent, Queen Elizabeth realized that the only way that the kingdom could become triumphant was to rally her people to stand with her to repel their enemies. Queen Elizabeth begins her speech by addressing her people, beginning with My loving people. Although many citizens of England disliked the Queen, she addressed them as though the nation adored her, giving the illusion of unity. Continuing on, Elizabeth inspires pathos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using her subject s faith in God, and the current law of divine leadership, Elizabeth I sets in stone her reputation. If God chose her to be the Queen of England, then she must be a qualified leader. Who would dare defy a decision ordained by God himself? Calling upon pathos, Queen Elizabeth proves her loyalty to her subjects by telling them I am come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all. But would the queen really fight beside her nation? Of course not, England could not risk the catastrophic terror the death of a monarch would bring. But her statement certainly serves its purpose, as it gives relatability. Queen Elizabeth uses pathos again for a third time by using her gender as a crutch for weakness. Falsely letting the public know that she would gladly fight alongside them, the Queen negates the previous statement by dictating, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman. Although this statement could be looked upon negatively by a woman, it served the purpose of inspiring empathy within the hearts of the soldiers being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Secretary Chant In the poem The Secretary Chant by Margie Piercy, a woman working as a secretary is depicted as undervalued and unappreciated by her employer. With this poem being written in 1936, the idea of women in the workplace was fairly new. Women were not given equal treatment as employees and were in the beginning stages of their fight for equality. The year the poem was written most certainly plays an integral role in the poem s tone, structure, diction, and theme. Throughout the poem, it is obvious that the secretary feels as if her job consumes her to the point where she is only seen as an object in the business in which she is employed rather than a human being or woman. The poet uses office materials to replace the secretary s body parts,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Repetition serves as a solid literary device used to develop the main theme of the poem. Repetition is used in this poem as a way in which to capitalize the monotony of the secretary s occupation. This also contributes to the overall robotic tone that is emphasized as the reader reads the poem. Repetition not only serves as a contributor to the tone of the story, but also as a symbol. The use of repetition symbolizes the feelings of the secretary. She feels entrapped and enslaved to her job due to the unfair reduction of her humanity. The repetition also symbolizes the continuous cycle that is experienced by women in general during the time period in which the poem was written. Women were constantly fighting for equality, but continued to be treated inhumanely. The use of the anaphora in lines 1, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 14 when the poet repeats My six times, it can be inferred that her mental strength to press forward despite her feelings of degradation is becoming wearier each day that passes. Repetition is used to place emphasis on or draw attention to a certain aspect. The poet uses the anaphora to draw the reader s attention to how mentally draining the secretary s situation is. This device could also be viewed as a ploy to evoke some sense of emotion from the reader. This places the reader deeper into the mind of the secretary making the reader feel sympathy or maybe even anger towards the secretary s status in the workplace. The ... Revised Order Of The Sacraments Of Initiation Revised Order of the Sacraments of Initiation Bishop ГЃlvaro Corrada said, The sacraments draw humanity into the truth and love of God revealed in Christ, thereby disposing the faithful to live this love more deeply in their daily lives of Christian freedom and witness. They serve to introduce us into the Catholic Church, increase our understanding of our religion, bestow upon us essential Christian virtues, and strengthen our faith. There are seven sacraments in total: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage. The first three Sacraments listed are the Sacraments of Initiation. The Sacraments of Christian Initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life...By means of these Sacraments of Christian Initiation, [we] thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. (CCC Chapter 1, Article 2:1212) These sacraments represent our birth into the Church, the seal of our birth into the Church, and the reception of Jesus body. In the words of the Catholic Church, The Christian is born anew by Baptism, strengthened by Confirmation, and receives in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. • 15. Minoan Crete Research Paper The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social, economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature and desire to live in a world of light and charm. The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC, when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean. Mycenaean artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely Mycenaean swords are know from as far away as Georgia in the Caucasus and Mycenaean bronze double axes and other objects dating from 13th century BCE have been found in Ireland and in Wessex and Cornwall in England. ... Internal Conflict In Sue Kidd s The Secret Life Of Bees In the novel The Secret Life of Bees (2001), Sue Kidd creates a character, Terrence Ray Owens, that serves as the epitome of internal conflict. Kidd is able to show Terrence s internal conflict through through a flashback from Lily s friend August, and a series of violent actions inflicted on his daughter Lily. Kidd s purpose in this novel is to display the ramifications of a broken home dynamic, in order to show how forgiveness to oneself and others is truly the first step to finding happiness. It doesn t take us the readers long to find out that T. Ray is an abusive parent, but it does take us a little longer to discover why he is the way he his. Going in chronological order of the discoveries within the book, T. Ray s main three sources of internal conflictwhich produces external conflict with his daughter is the result of his background of war, his wife running away and eventually dying, and his daughter running away as well. Working backwards, August s introduction into the book and the knowledge she has on Lily s family divulges quite a lot about T. Ray than Lily is aware of. As we the readers find out, T. Ray served as a combatant during the VietnamWar and returned to Tiburon in 1964, the year the book is set in. • 20. Exercise And Behavior Adoption For Many Reasons This course has provided a new perspective on exercise and behavior adoption for many reasons. The first and prominent realization I had was during the behavior change project. This assignment allowed me to take a step back, and assess where I stand physically and mentally. I noticed that I lacked discipline in my diet and exercise routines. That being said, I did exercise periodically prior to this moment, but I knew that I was capable of accomplishing more and using my time more wisely. The fact that this assignment allowed me to directly apply what we learned in class in my life is appealing to me. There have been many theories and terms that we have covered, but items such as the self determination theory, social support, and the stimulus response theory stood out, probably due to incorporating them in my behavior change. The self determination theory has been made prevalent in my life as I have seen it hold true in my personal goals, and I have used it to help motivate others to accomplish plans of interest. It is hard for me to have a great influence on my family, due to being six hours away for college, but recently my mother and I have been discussing exercise possibilities over the phone. The cell structures when viewed under different power of magnification, depicts different clarity of organelles. Numerous plant and creature cells are steadfastly altered as a major aspect of multicellular tissues (Pruitt, 2002). The morphology of tissue cells is very associated with their capacity (Alberts, 2002). Nicholas felt that to gain a clearer understanding of the issues involved, he arranged a research tour of great concert halls around the world in November 1987. After the research and experience the travelers shared, the Berlin Philharmonie Hall by Hans Scharon was one of the groups favorite for its combination of acoustical excellence and audience intimacy. From there Ernest Fleischman, head of LA Phil during the time, agreed he wanted the Disney Concert Hall to be a single purpose hall that is inviting, open and accessible to the street and related it to the experience of the Berlin Philharmonie. The next step for the Walt Disney Concert Hallis a crucial one, choosing the architect for the Hall. The list began with eighty different architects from around the world. Through extensive processing and interviewing, the selection slimmed down to four architects: Goffried Bohm, Frank Gehry, Hans Hollein, and James Stirling. From the start many people in the Music Center were opposed to Frank Gehry and his reputation of being an architectural wild man . In the end Gehry demonstrated consideration of what the building in Los Angeles should be. Once leaving the desk I walked along the wall to my left which was covered in glass cases that contained a multitude of civil war artifacts. The first thing that stood out to me was a small set of hand carved wooden chess pieces. They were kept in great condition, along with the bag that held them, aside from one hole in the bag itself. Above the glass cases were Civil War flags for different regiments with a particular focus on the Louisiana based regiment. Once I looked at the array of flags on left wall I focused my attention back to the glass cases again. The further down the wall I progressed the more personal items I came across. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration of the monarchy also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I and the attempted establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight against King George III s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also influenced the war. The colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy, assembly, and speech. Therefore, the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was failing its main purpose according to social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Sugar Act, and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed the Parliament had no right to impose these taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t represented in government. As a result, several Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native Americans, boarded a British cargo ship and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered by the act, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party by blockading the Boston Harbor until restitution was made for the tea. • 44. The Struggles And Inequalities Of Mexican Americans In the educational setting, Mexican Americans have faced discrimination, segregation, and inequality for many years. This paper discusses the struggles and inequalities that Mexican Americans have faced in education. I will focus on different educational time periods and discuss the problems and struggles that occurred in those time periods. The time periods that I give focus to include educationin the Spanish Mexican era (1519 1848), education and early Anglo rule in the Southwest (1836 1890), the expansion of American education (1890 1960), and education in the contemporary period (1960 present). Education in the Spanish Mexican era lasted from 1519 until 1848. During this period, education occurred in informal and formal settings and was aimed towards the Indian population, who were Spanish subjects. Education in informal settings was the general norm and the most important informal settings were missions, presidios, and civilian settlements. The purpose of educating the Indians was to substitute their identity with a Spanish one and to also teach them the acceptance of their social relegation. The way the Spanish did this was by teaching the Indians literacy, music, the Catholic faith, Spanish manners, and by repressing their indigenous religious and social beliefs (Kloosterman 2). Education and the early Anglo rule in the Southwest lasted from 1836 until 1890. From 1836 to about 1850, formal education took place in schools that were founded by the Catholic Church. ... While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas: The Black Widow: You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if they are guarding eggs or laying eggs. The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks, house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. This ad for The Little Town of Christmas, may seem plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked. There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of many; these aspects are the ad s font style, the colorscheme, the age range it targets, and the overall design choice. Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic Sands. However, instead of these font styles, the production company decided to go with a more creative font for the ad. Moreover, this font style doesn t have a specific style or standard, because of this there are a few details that are subtle to the eye. It s a story about Palestine, once a country, but now spread out into a million pieces of the people that once called it home. The pieces being more of memories of a time when Palestinians could be who they are, not a scattered and forgotten people. They all face a new struggle, a struggle to find their identity. Identity who we are, where we come from, what we are is difficult to maintain in exile. Most other people take their identity for granted. Not the Palestinian, who is required to show proofs of identity more or less constantly. (Page 546) Said, being Palestinian himself, tells us this story in what was called a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, I don t know if any other approach would have been this effective. This allows we as readers to see more into the lives of Palestinians, rather than just read about it. Said starts off the story describing a picture of the wedding of a Palestinian couple. Instead of describing the obvious of what was happening in the picture, Said goes on to describe it in a way that only a true Palestinian would be able to see. Cutting across the wedding party s path here is the ever present Mercedes, emblazoned with its extra mark of authenticity, the proud D for Deutschland. A rare luxury in the West, the Mercedes usually secondhand and smuggled in in the commonest of cars in the Levant. (Page 541) To someone who did not grow up in Palestine, they would not know this piece of information. Pictures such as this would provoke feelings and memories only a Palestinian would know. They would remember a time that they were forced to forget. A time when they were forced to leave the only home they ever knew. Before I read what Said had to say about his point of view, I never would have thought farther into the picture other than the fact it was a picture of someone s wedding day. This is a good example of why Said s choice of hybrid writing is effective in what he wants us as readers to know. It brings us into his mind and allows us to understand a little better. It was dotted with buffalo wallows, and trails of the kind so familiar to Lewis and Clark, and the Mormons, who helped open the great western frontier. Danger and challenge were everywhere; but so was opportunity in the Homestead Act passed by Congress in 1862. For facing the rigors of the frontier life, the head of a family could obtain 160 acres of good black land if he could survive for five years and make some improvements.
