MAKE IN INDIA
INTRODUCTION:
 This “Make in India” campaign is introduced to
“transform India into a global manufacturing hub”
which aims to use manufacturing as a vehicle for
job growth.
 It is the effort made by our hon’ble PRIME
MINISTER Mr. Narendra Modi .
 India has jobs problem.
 This will cheer up multinational companies as well
as domestic companies.
Former president Mr.A P J Abdul
kalam’s view on Make in India:
 “We need to bridge the gaps of lower level and
literacy, language, and customized content,
though” these views are expressed in the soon to
be published “Advantage India: From Challenge
To Opportunity”
Objectives:
 To make investing in manufacturing more
attractive to domestic and foreign investors.
 To give the Indian economy global recognition.
 To create competitive industrial environment.
 To development infrastructure.
 To invite latest technologies.
 To generate employment and skill formation.
PROMISING AREAS FOR MANUFACTURING,
TRADE AND INVESTMENTS
Agro and food processing industry:
 The food processing sector accounts for 9% of manufacturing GDP,
nearly 12.1% of India’s exports, 6%of India’s industrial investment.
Auto components & automotive industry:
 2 largest manufacturer of two wheelers and 5largest manufacturer of
commercial vehicles(22%)
Drugs & pharmaceuticals_:
 sector directly or indirectly employees about 4 million skilled and semi-
skilled workers compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 15%.
Engineering:
 The sector directly or indirectly employees about 4 million skilled and
semi-skilled workers.
 The Indian engineering industry is increasingly attaining global recognition
especially for its low-cost and high-tech frugal innovation technology.
Industry:
 The Indian FMCG market is the 4 largest sector in the economy.
It has a total market size in excess of US$ 44.9 billion
SECTORS
Gems and jewellery:
• The domestic market for Gold is estimated to be over US$ 30 billion.
•It is about 14% to India’s total exports and employs about 3.4 million workers.
Infrastructure:
• Their share in infrastructure investment increased from 22% in the Tenth Five Year Plan to 38%
Leather and leather products:
• The leather industry is an employment intensive sector, providing job to about 2.5 million people.
• The sector is among the top 10 foreign exchange earners for the country.
Services sector
• India amongst the fastest growing IT markets in Asia-Pacific region.
• India’s services sector has gained prominence in terms of its contribution to national and states incomes,
trade flows, .
Textile and readymade garments:
• About 14% of the industrial production comes from the textiles and readymade garments industry.
11% of the country’s export earnings are made up of textiles and readymade garments exports.
Achievements:
 India’s Civil Nuclear Energy(kudankullam,
kalpakkam, Baba atomic research centre)
 Manufacturing of fighter jets for military aircraft in
India.
 6 stealth submarines are to be manufactured .
 Development of 100 smart cities to facilitate
infrastructure.
 Digital India to connect all gram-panchayats by
broadband internet.

economy; unfortunately India lags behind in this
key area.
 The government agenda reveals a highly
ambitious plan for the Indian infrastructure and
aims at making it “better than the best”.

  • 2. INTRODUCTION:  This “Make in India” campaign is introduced to “transform India into a global manufacturing hub” which aims to use manufacturing as a vehicle for job growth.  It is the effort made by our hon’ble PRIME MINISTER Mr. Narendra Modi .  India has jobs problem.  This will cheer up multinational companies as well as domestic companies.
  • 3. Former president Mr.A P J Abdul kalam’s view on Make in India:  “We need to bridge the gaps of lower level and literacy, language, and customized content, though” these views are expressed in the soon to be published “Advantage India: From Challenge To Opportunity”
  • 4. Objectives:  To make investing in manufacturing more attractive to domestic and foreign investors.  To give the Indian economy global recognition.  To create competitive industrial environment.  To development infrastructure.  To invite latest technologies.  To generate employment and skill formation.
  • 5. PROMISING AREAS FOR MANUFACTURING, TRADE AND INVESTMENTS Agro and food processing industry:  The food processing sector accounts for 9% of manufacturing GDP, nearly 12.1% of India’s exports, 6%of India’s industrial investment. Auto components & automotive industry:  2 largest manufacturer of two wheelers and 5largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles(22%) Drugs & pharmaceuticals_:  sector directly or indirectly employees about 4 million skilled and semi- skilled workers compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 15%. Engineering:  The sector directly or indirectly employees about 4 million skilled and semi-skilled workers.  The Indian engineering industry is increasingly attaining global recognition especially for its low-cost and high-tech frugal innovation technology. Industry:  The Indian FMCG market is the 4 largest sector in the economy. It has a total market size in excess of US$ 44.9 billion
  • 6. SECTORS Gems and jewellery: • The domestic market for Gold is estimated to be over US$ 30 billion. •It is about 14% to India’s total exports and employs about 3.4 million workers. Infrastructure: • Their share in infrastructure investment increased from 22% in the Tenth Five Year Plan to 38% Leather and leather products: • The leather industry is an employment intensive sector, providing job to about 2.5 million people. • The sector is among the top 10 foreign exchange earners for the country. Services sector • India amongst the fastest growing IT markets in Asia-Pacific region. • India’s services sector has gained prominence in terms of its contribution to national and states incomes, trade flows, . Textile and readymade garments: • About 14% of the industrial production comes from the textiles and readymade garments industry. 11% of the country’s export earnings are made up of textiles and readymade garments exports.

Achievements:  India’s Civil Nuclear Energy(kudankullam, kalpakkam, Baba atomic research centre)  Manufacturing of fighter jets for military aircraft in India.  6 stealth submarines are to be manufactured .  Development of 100 smart cities to facilitate infrastructure.  Digital India to connect all gram-panchayats by broadband internet.
  • 8. BOTTLENECKS TO MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN INDIA:  HIGH INPUT COSTS  INADEQUATE INFRASTRUCTURAL FRAMEWORK  LACK OF SINGLE WINDOW CLEARANCE FACILITIES  INADEQUATE AVAILABILITY OF LAND FOR INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES  UNBALANCED GROWTH IN LOGISTICS SECTOR
  • 9. Major Flaws of “Make in India”:  Agricultural myth  Infrastructure deficiency  Job skill mismatch  land acquisition.  Labour laws  Poor governance  Multiple taxation
  • 10. Initiatives To Achieve Excellence:  Revive manufacturing  Gain global competitiveness  Claim global leadership  Starting from manufacturing products the main area is “Infrastructure”. It is the backbone of any economy; unfortunately India lags behind in this key area.  The government agenda reveals a highly ambitious plan for the Indian infrastructure and aims at making it “better than the best”.

  • 12. Conclusion: Going ahead, the Indian manufacturing sector provide an excellent opportunity to international investors to collaborate with existing businesses as most of the businesses have plans to expand through various options.
