This document provides a history of Makati City in the Philippines. It describes how Makati transitioned from a rural agricultural area to a modern, urban city. In the pre-Spanish era, Makati was dominated by swamps and grasslands. In the late 1500s, it became a district of Santa Ana de Sapa under Franciscan rule. In the early 1900s, Makati remained a third class agricultural community relying on rice and horse fodder. After World War 2, wealthy families and businesses began moving to Makati, developing it into a modern, affluent city with new villages, skyscrapers, and commercial areas. Makati is now one of the most important business and economic centers in the Philippines
