1) Voyager 1 encountered an unexpected region in 2012 between 120-122 AU from the sun, entering it five times between days 210-238 based on magnetic field measurements. 2) When it entered this region, called the heliosheath depletion region (HDR), the magnetic field strength increased from around 0.2 nT to 0.4 nT and remained high, while energetic particle counts dropped significantly. 3) The direction of the magnetic field did not change significantly during the boundary crossings, indicating Voyager 1 likely did not cross the heliopause but remained in the heliosheath.
