James Fox conducted research on magazine layout and house style by distributing questionnaires and researching magazine designs. He analyzed various magazine cover and content page designs to understand differences and how to design his own magazine. The house style he chose was Kozuka Mincho, which he felt had a catchy ring to it and worked well with the "Sharpy but Smarty" layout of his magazine. He created basic and more advanced designs for the cover, contents page, and double page spread to enhance the house style and add more design elements. To obtain feedback, he created a questionnaire and calculated the results.

2. The research I advised to myself consisted of questionnaires and general
research in magazine layout and house style. Also, how I would depict my own
work and how that varies the evolution of my magazine design outcome. Below
is a contact sheet of some research I did into the house style and layout of
magazine page spreads.

3. For my product research I completed a task based upon
magazine design analysis. For the given task I compared a
variety of different front cover and content page designs and
analysed them to a extent in which I knew the differences
between and had a known indication of what to do with my
final magazine design.

design layout was Kozuka Mincho which
I thought had a catchy ring to it.
Also, the dimensions of the text really
accumulated well with my magazine
design as I stuck by the look of ‘Sharpy
but Smarty’ which really depicts the
extents of the layout that my magazine
has provided.

think it worked well
 This is a basic front cover layout that I designed to help me to enhance the
house style and cover lines, headings, etc. This is a more advanced front
cover that I produced for my final major project as you can see the
similarities to the two front covers has been enhanced and I’ve tried to add
more factors to the page such as cover lines and subject title, Free testers,
and exclusives etc.

help me to enhance the house style and other factors
such as imagery and layout. This is a more advanced
contents page that I produced for my final major
project as you can see the similarities to the two
contents pages has been enhanced and I’ve tried to add
more factors to the page.

you think it worked well
This is a basic layout for my double page spread that I
designed to help me to enhance the house style and other
factors such as imagery and layout. This is a more advanced
double page spread that I produced for my final major project
as you can see the similarities to the two contents pages has
been enhanced and I’ve tried to add more factors to the
page.

8. For my feed back I produced a questionnaire which then I had to
calculate the results here is a demonstration.

9. Strengths
Photo-shoot – I took a lot
of photo’s so I had a lot to
choose from.
The pictures I took were
clear and took in lighting
so they were easy to edit.
Weaknesses
Layout – The idea I had
in my head didn’t come
out on paper as I
thought they would.
Article – Writing the
article was fairly easy as
I had pre-production.
